New to Doms: elec question

Airhammer

Posted

Greetings all.

I am new to playing dom,s and I rolled up an elec/elec.

What is a good attack chain when using these? I am liking all of the end drain so far!

Build wise I have no clue where to begin! (which makes sense since i dont even know what powers to take!!)

This toon will be entirely for PvE

Any and all advice is welcome!

Thanks

This is a build I'm thinking of using on My Elec/Elec. Currently lvl 27, and loving this toon. This build is expensive.

There is a very good guide on Dominator and Dominator secondaries.

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=236428

I would use this a a guide to help you figure out what powers you might want to take. They way I build and play a toon might be totally different from the way you would play, so sometimes I think just throwing out a build without understanding the mechanics behind the powers of the playstyle of the individual doesnt help.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

You're build is so expensive because you have 2 more purple sets than you can fully utilize set bonuses for. More importantly, why would you put Fort. Hypnosis in Charged Brawl rather than Static Field? Fixing the obvious flaws you can push the global recharge to almost 140% without hasten, which means domination is perma without hasten.

That's all I have to say about that build. Moving on to the OP.

As far as your build goes, the only glaring flaws I see are the existence of knockback protection IOs in the build. You don't need these with domination running. Speaking of domination, you could probably scale your global recharge back at least 10%. You've planned for 135% which is impressive, however, with 125% domination is still perma without hasten. Dropping that 10% would be easy and free up some slots if you dropped them from conductive aura and build up.

You've got options. I haven't played an elec/ past level 5 but looking at the powers it looks like a set that encourages being in melee. So you could shuffle things around and shoot to softcap S/L defense while still being permadom. It would require you to change your epic, though. Just a thought

SG: Guadians of Paragon - VG: Paragon's Darkness
The Usual Suspects: Fimboolvetr (Icer Tank), Tsukiyomi (Mind/Psi/Ice Dom), Smiting Dragon (Dm/Sr Scrap), Widow Mortis (NW)
Up and Comers: Ameterasu (Km/Reg Scrap), Arrhymian (Elec/Nin Stalk), TDMKII (Bot/Traps MM)

Lol, That Fort Placement was a mistake, and has been corrected. Thanks for the input, that's kinda why I threw it up here. I did say it was the build I was thinking about, and that the Toon is only 27. I was planning to do more research, prior to actually slotting that. Again thanks for the advice. Here is my corrected version, if you notice something else that will help, I would really appreciate the heads up.

This build I made without purples. It's not really cheap, but easily achievable with hero/villain merits.

The alpha slot I took was for endurance drain: musculature, and the damage bonus to the dominator primaries is more than a little significant.

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

You can build a fantastic Dom without purples. You don't need to achieve perma-Dom without Hasten after all. Also it's good to remember some purple sets are cheap, like sleep and confuse.

Of course, not all non-purples are cheap. Getting sets of Basilisk's Gaze and a few LotG recharges easily add up to several hundred million. But you don't have to get those off the market, either. You can get those recipes with Alignment Merits.

Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.

That's exactly the purpose of the build I posted.

EDIT: oops I guess I did include a confuse purple, one of the cheaper ones, but not necessary for permadom either.

Yes, but then you have to buy or earn the Drops to create it. Some of those go for Millions themselves; unless you collect Salvage, and store it.

An elec/ dom is best built by playing an elec/ dom. Pregening one up is a bad way to go. Asking what powers you might use is better, but having other people build one for you is just no good. You need to learn how to use your powers, because elec is very different from other dom builds. If it ends up bad, you can always respec. But building what someone else makes you might be a waste of time, because once you get there, you find it doesn't fit your play style.

Coming here to have someone build you a char is always my absolute last resort. Asking for slotting help is a different story.

You have found out your dom eats end like candy right now. Yep! Play it slow, bring lots of blues, and start off with 0/1 or so. You can generate your own end, but learn your powers to figure out how to do it. Be aware that elec/ is mostly a melee based char. Get in their faces and stay there. You can't rely on static field as your only control early on. It just doesn't recharge fast enough. Either team up a lot, or get used to playing with things like your chain knockdown. Mostly, I recommend teaming. I teamed all the way through 25, before I really came into my own. Now I can do pretty brutal things solo. Elec, once you have learned how it works, can be bent to run any way you want.

Purples for an Elec/ dom are absurdly cheap. Depending on what you do, you can kit out a dom with an insane amount of cool for under 300mil. I absolutely recommend going for as much rech as you possibly can with an elec/ dom. If you were an elec/psi, I would say push your recharge at least until you have perma drain psyche.
