Destiny buffs for Scrappers
I took Ageless on my ma/regen because regen loves recharge, and buffing the recharge of everybody around me in the process is almost just a perk. It does have a noticeable effect.
However, what I really noticed/liked is that the +recovery in the T2 will completely fill the blue bar of everybody it hits, and then keep it full for a bit. I'm not sure how it interacts with recovery debuffs yet, but some squishies on an ITF who were sucking wind pretty hard loved me by the time we finished.
My suggestion would be, to get various T3s from the destiny line and slot the one that will be most beneficial before whatever Trial/TF you're about to do.
The T3 does not require an ultra-rare salvage, and can be had over a weekend of dedicated trial running, maybe less if you get lucky with rare drops (I seem to get uncommon success rewards often, so I break them down for threads to get commons - its pretty quick work) - at worst it will take you a few days.
Even if it takes you longer, look at it as a long term goal, picking up X Destiny power for now, and then Y and Z at a later date.
Destiny has so many interesting choices, that I will most likely be grabbing multiple T3s for my main character.
This is one of the aspects of the Incarnate system I don't think most people are taking advantage of, its time consuming and it requires more focus on fewer characters vs. lots of characters - but if you're that kind of player it adds an amazing element of adaptability.
The best part is, these are league wide buffs. You can, as a Scrapper, literally save the day and turn the tide of a bad fight your team is having on an STF or LGTF or something with a well-planned and well-timed Destiny buff.

Well, if you can only take just one then it would really depend on the build.
You've mentioned Rebirth for your SR, what is the other Scrapper you're talking about?
DM/SD. It's already a high-recharge build with Hasten and Soul Drain close to perma, sitting at 49% melee defense and 47% ranged and AoE, and about 93% DDR with three level 50+ Membranes in Active Defense (I'll be making them 50++ once I scrounge up the inf). With Conserve Power and Dark Consumption I don't really have end problems either, barring Mu Guardians, lucky Sappers and those stupid Seers.

Do you only solo? Or do you do a lot of teaming?
Ageless is very nice, its situational but in the situations you need it - it should be life saving.
That's not to say that you couldn't get amazing value out of Barrier or Rebirth either - even with softcapped defenses and spamming Siphon Life, they are really just that amazing.
If you do go Ageless, I would definitely consider getting rid of Conserve power, and by extension the Body Mastery Pool - it seems superfluous in the face of +100 END every 2 minutes on top of DC

Although if I go with Ageless, depending how it works out, I might not need Physical Perfection either....*starts wondering how bad the crash on OWTS is....*

I only have it as a prereq for Physical Perfection, and never used it at all until I dropped Assault for Maneuvers and lost a bit of end red in my toggles, and even then it's only against Arachnos, IDF and occasionally Malta.

With all your recharge, DC should be on a 50s or so timer, Ageless will be on a 2 minute timer.
You can effectively stagger the two and refill your end bar to full 1x every minute.
0s Ageless > 60s DC > 120s Ageless > 180s DC and so on - I doubt you actually need this much recovery, but it's there when you do.
The Crash on OWTS is -60% end - I time DC for the OWTS crash on my DM/SD Brute.
So if you go ageless, drop Body Mastery and shoe horn in Ball Lightning or Fireball maybe

Ain't happening. For one, I don't have the slots, and there is still that pesky little annoyance called "concept" that sometimes comes up and smacks me upside the head. So it'll be either Assault to give myself new end problems or Vengeance so I can stick an LotG in there and put a Ribo in Deflection.

Fun times indeed.

I just raised a similar point w/tanks on the tanker forum, but, I was also thinking SR & Shields scrappers w/Rebirth Radial Epiphany would be pretty sick. High def layered w/a massive heal & regen.
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
I considered getting Barrier since I have the high regen/heal from being a /regen, but I already have enough melee defense that a small purple puts me up over 45% which is more than enough solo. In any of the trials that would make me want to reach the defense cap for them, somebody else will almost certainly be running barrier, so it would become a bit superfluous for me to have it as well. With that thought it boiled down to clarion or ageless which wasn't a difficult decision to make at all. I can however see where Rebirth would be very good for Defense sets without access to a heal outside of the medicine pool.
I have the t3 regen destiny on my BS/SD, and it's pretty amazing. The first few seconds are basically a full heal, followed by over a minute of much-improved regen. Not to mention that you can use it to save teammates!

So I pretty much agree with your reasoning.
I took Barrier on my DM/Regen, and plan it, honestly, for all of my Regens. In general, when I get in trouble on them, even the top tier for Ageless wouldn't save them except in specific circumstances, such as the danger being due to defense debuffs or because I can almost heal in time, but not quite. In the vast majority of practical cases I can come up with, having a second MoG (on sterioids) would deal with with either issue in most cases. In fact, Barrier deals with cases that MoG does not, such as Psi damage.
Now I plan on Rebirth for my BS/Invuln. This is a character that's at or nearly at the typed damage cap for most damage types. Extreme psi is certainly bad news, but most of the situations where it is a serious issue (Psi-wielrding AVs, surrounded by high-con Psi bosses) wouldn't really be rectified by the relatively short duration of the higher mitigation levels Barrier would offer to Psi damage. Instead, on that character I am going for the Core Rebirth, which is able to be perma outside of its activation time, and its smallest, longest-lasting +regen benefit is +200%. (!)
By the way, anyone looked at Radial Rebirth on something like a Willpower Tanker?

Ageless is pretty situational (unless of course you're build could use bursts of Rech & a full end bar every 2 mins)
I took rebirth on my DM/SD since I'm set on defense and I have archmage and one with the shield for resistances. Ran an Apex today and was able to solo a pylon with all 5 hydra beating on me with all that popped which I hadn't been able to do before after the team got gibbed by those stupid toxic-spewing hydra. Capped defense/resistances plus 10 percent hp/sec regen is like a warm fuzzy bubble <3

I went with the rebirth + regen Destiny on my kat/da. I like layering defenses, and a permanent 200% (once I get my t3->t4) regen stacked on top of my defense and resist seems like a nice filler while Dark Regen is down.
If I had end issues, I would be sorely tempted to take Ageless for the +rech with the +end as a bonus. But I don't... so... Hmm.

If you're agonizing over it this much, it means you really love this character.
Pick up a couple of T3s, I promise it won't take nearly as long as it seems like it might.

On a more serious note, if you plan to pick up the powers you want and not run trials all the time, I would actually pick up multiple T3 Destiny powers before I even chose a T3 lore or a T3 Judgement.

Ageless seems like it could be absolutely insanely useful for a Dark Armor. Werner, are you reading this? Alexi with DDR, plus a "gimme end and recharge mah Dark Regen" button? That sounds like fun, and if I ever get my MA/DA to level 50 (she's been 43 for like 3 years) I plan to try it.

But while I could always slot a different alpha for other benefits, my Cardiac Core has my endurance needs covered right now, and I like the extra damage resistance. Debuff resistance isn't useful as a response to existing debuffs, so would have to be used ahead of time, so just put on auto, essentially. So then I just hope I'm at the first part of the cycle when the trouble starts. Maybe it helps a lot, maybe a little, maybe not at all. Extra recharge on Dark Regeneration is always nice, of course.
I'm honestly thinking Barrier Core Epiphany. Don't put it on auto. Keep it in reserve. When defense debuffed (or otherwise in big trouble), hit it. Moment of Glory is the answer to everything on my Katana/Regen, so I imagine Barrier with its bigger numbers and lingering effects would serve my Katana/Dark just fine. I've also been pushing my resistance fairly hard in my build. I'll have 30 seconds of capped smashing/lethal/fire/cold/negative and psionic resistance, while Energy and Toxic will both be over 60%. Even the lingering +7.5% and +5% should noticeably reduce incoming damage.
Rebirth would be nice for the extra hit points, which is functionally similar to resistance, but I think straight resistance will be better. And while I'd be happy with some regeneration, I have plenty of healing in Dark Regeneration. I think I'd rather just take less damage.
I need to see more real numbers on this stuff, though. Like I don't know the recharge on everything, and whether your global recharge affects it. And what I'll probably do is copy over to test and try them all out once I have enough to get one of them. But there's more to it than even testing, since you can actually build around some of these things, like I built around the T4 Cardiac.
Anyway, I'm slow. I don't even have tier 1 in this stuff. Heck, I think I've only unlocked one of the slots. I should play tonight.

Ok, obvious benefits of Barrier are obvious what with "the new softcap" on trials and the +res, but for regular content my old stale softcap is just fine and I don't plan on grinding trials until my eyes bleed anyway. Plus, so many other people are taking Barrier.
I don't need extra mez protection and already have a spammable self-heal in Siphon Life. Although my self-healless /SR Scrapper will (eventually) be all over Rebirth like a cheap prom dress. On the other hand +recharge is always nice and the debuff resistance looks pretty sweet, and I'm not seeing it used much. Can anyone comment on its usefulness? It immediately made me think of ACU "all your powers are tiny dots" patches, KoA caltrop spam, dual Master Illusionists both popping Fluffies and those annoying seers with their annoying Drain Psyche, and being able to tell all those things to suck tentacles, but how useful is it in practice? |
