LFG system....
I agree, the LFG system doesn't work well at all, and I've stopped using it.
The main problem is that it makes teams that are too small. You always lose a few somewhere along the line, and teams made like this, out of essential random people are typically unbalanced anyways. It should never form a team from the queue unless it's at the maximum size for the trial in question, and it ought to aggressively add latecomers to existing leagues it's formed that have dropped down below the maximum even while they play.
The waiting time it shows is a joke, for sure. It should only show times for leagues formed through the LFG queue, and not pre-assembled teams that queue and launch in short order.
I don't know what the feedback was in Beta, but if any of these issues were considered there, and this system was kept anyway, the Devs likely think it's fine as is, and it'll stay as is. A terrible shame, if so. It had a lot of promise, and then hugely under-delivered once it met the live servers.
At the very least they should make so that if you log in and can still "join last event" (ie. after a DC), then it should display your LFG screen (with the big green Rejoin button) by default.
At least that way people will realise they can in fact rejoin. The first time I got DC in a trail when I got back in I looked at the "League" tab and it said I wasn't in a league, it was only by chance that I then hit "LFG" to join a new league that I saw the button to rejoin. |
1. On log-in, the system should check for Leagues/Queue/anything else which might be "outstanding" and offer a dialog box with a resolution (e.g. "Rejoin Last Event").
2. The League interface should be modified so that if you are able to rejoin a league, it says "Rejoin Last Event" instead of "Not in League."
For a person that DC's, they're still considered to be in the queue, and even if they log back in right away, they might not realize that they can rejoin/drop from the LFG pane.
It's likely that a DC'd person logs back in, but doesn't realize that they're still in the queue (i.e., they don't look at the LFG pane). And the system stops the team lead from inviting a replacement because it considers that spot in the queue to be taken. |
2. Preformed groups fill to max and this prevents pugs from getting added. Make prometheus(move him to pocket D) and the SGBase the contact to start a locked trial. Make LFG leagues cap out at 14 for LAM and 20 for BAF. The last 2-4 spots are reserved for solos in the LFG Q.

A better solution (IMHO) would have been to make it so that leagues cannot queue at all, only individual teams but that is something that needs to have been done from the start. Setting it that way now would cause major complaints from the playerbase.
I think the LFG should just be renamed Incarnate trials hardcore mode. I have never used the LFG where it did not do just the minimum and dumped you into the trial. It effectively makes it 10 times harder on you since the numbers are set so low. It should be raised considerably if they want pick to have a realistic chance of beating these trials. I find the preforming teams method to be the best way to do this.

Make it optional. There were several times where we waited to fill 3-4 spots and would have gladly taken any solos waiting. I assumed it did work like that, but was disappointed when teammates confirmed it wouldn't auto-fill holes.

I've done this a few times on leagues where I didn't feel like filling the last few spots so I have no problem with it as an option, I just think forcing players to do it is a bad idea.
Your teammates were incorrect. If you queue with a less than full league it will automatically add anyone in the queue to your league. This generally (but not always) results in a full league.

That's because people aren't using it. When forming a league I have, on average, found 1 person with their "looking for trial" flag up.

People aren't really thinking of these trials as "trials." They're thinking in terms of "Lambda," "BAF" and "new content." So prod their memories by mentioning the "Looking for Trial" flag.

I think it would be nice if the LFG button was more like looking for league (LFL) button. So instead of (I am just thinking out loud here) it putting you in a que it would put you into an open league. Make it an option for the league leader to allow random adds to their league from this button. Because most leagues don't get que'd in until of course the league is full (ie like any TF in the game), which leaves solo peeps in the LFG que SOL. As others have mentioned, I think most leagues would fill if the leaders would just que in and wait if they were only missing like 1 or 2 but most just wait until they have the requirements of that trial.
Only when i20 hit was I ever to able to use the LFG button to be que'd into a trial. Once people figured out to go to PD to get on a league, I haven't been added to a trial even waiting for an hour doing some market and recipe work. It would be a nice option, especially now with everyone buffed up, team make up doesn't have to be as strict.
I don't find it hard just to go to PD, but I can see the frustration with it.
On that note, see everyone in PD lol
