The New I20 Trial Badges

Being as the new trials are in Open Beta, going live should be "right around the corner". It may still be a couple weeks off...but who would be interested in getting some of those harder badges? I would like to get enough people to put a "league" size group togther of like-minded individuals to accomplish this..Anyone interested?

You know I'm in of course. I haven't run them yet or know too much about them at all, but I'm sure we can get the details sorted out by then.

I've got at least 3 characters I'd be working with, but I'll probably make MB the priority this time, so pencil him in if you could.

Thanks

Of course. You know how to reach me. Schedule something and I'll be there.

I have a global channel I've kept in my pocket for a while since it's somewhat repetitive with Freedom Badge(s), but my intention was to keep the clientele restricted to the serious badge nuts out there. Right now it's just me, Max and a few others.

If you want to use this as a catalyst for usage, I'll discuss with Max and see if he agrees on opening membership.

Let me know when you want to run (once they go Live) and I'll try to be there on either my Empath or Dominator.

I can please only one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow isn't looking good, either.

Can't really set a date and time until it at least has an official release date.

I'm sure once we know that, we can figure out when most of us will be available and set the time.

That said, I'd guess we'll probably meet on a Tuesday night since that's the usual patch day (and it's one of the few days of the week the Horde doesn't already have something scheduled). haha

Well so far we have MB, Turg, Luna, Paragon, Caliburst, Toxsyn, and biggreenogre. There are a couple members of the Prophets of Supremacy that I know are interested, and I am sure we can get Morna and a couple others. I am pretty sure we can get a "league" size group of like minded individuals together.

The main reason that a "badge league" would be optimal is sort of what happened today to me on a Tin Mage. We were all set to get the "Hacker" badge, when someone singly went charging in and started the timer, and before anyone realized it there was not nearly enough time left to salvage it. Not a big deal in and of itself, but its just a little reminder to me that unless there is total teamwork with EVERYONE in the league, certain badges, like the one that NO ONE use the temps on Maurauder, as an example. If ONE person in the league uses it, "badge" game over, and that's 32 people to have on the same page.

Just as a heads up, I would like to try and get both "Master of" badges for these trials. It probably will not happen the day of release, being new and all, but would like to try at least within a couple days of release.

Of course I'm interested.

Sounds good to me. Just remember some of us haven't bothered with trying the beta out, so we'll need to learn as we go on the who, what, when, where and why of the new events =) But usually for people who are interested in badging it, we're a good crew to pay attention and listen to instruction.

Personally, I think the first week is going to be nuts: New issue, new encounter, new mechanic, people will be learning the layouts of the map (and I find the BAF interior confusing, personally).

I agree that keeping the badge runs to people who're dedicated to the idea is an obvious must. Using a global channel would help (Luna brings up a good point, the Horde's a good resource for that - the global channel's established, and a lot of the consistent players already participate there, no need to reinvent the wheel). Signups for these runs, similar to E-Man/Luna's format (with the signup and a quick rundown of what's expected for each mission, so everyone's on the same page) is a strong point too.

My direction on this would be the following:

Week One: Initial practice runs are set up. Everyone goes in with the mentality that they're going for the badges, but it'll be focused on familiarizing everyone with the encounter, and the lay of the land. That means more hands on from the league leader on each phase, making sure no one's running ahead making things chaotic, etc. If the badge attempt fails, continue forward and use the failure as part of the intel gathering. Post run, everyone stays on map for exploration, brainstorming of tactic changes, build requirements, etc. Keep a running draft of the mission summary and tactics involved. If you really wanna get fancy, take screenshots and reference them in your posts. (You can hotlink images from imagehost, picasaweb, etc.)

Week Two+: Everyone should be focused on a win run. Anyone "new" to this should be attached to a more seasoned player or team leader to keep the overall "omg whut is dis" chatter to a minimum. If it's a fail, everyone keeps a smile on, and plough through anyway. Look at the fail points, see what can be done to accommodate for the next attempt. Last thing you'll wanna do is alienate a person if they're just having a rough time with the learning curve (which is different from being a complete moron). Don't melt your knives if they're dull. Just sharpen them.

I wouldn't do more than two "real" badge runs a week until everyone's comfortable with them. That will lead quickly to badger burnout, and the last thing you want is resentful team players who want to help, but feel like they're being muscled into the job for everyone else's benefit. The trial's not bad, it just requires serious team coordination. You can get that with any seasoned pug crew here, but like you note, all it takes is one to ruin it.

I can see it now..the "TF looking looking for more, pst" will turn into "Trial looking for TEAMS, pst"

I do agree with you Turg, btw, where I am sure that we will need some trial runs first to get everyone aquainted, as not everyone has played I20 yet. It just the badger saying "I WANTS IT NAO, GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE"

It's going to be like herding cats the first couple times to be sure, but I am sure it will smooth out over time. Once alot of people get their Judgement/Destiny/Lore/Interface Slots, and the corresponding trial lvl shifts, I am sure it will all go smooth as glass.

I'd be up for this with my badge toon (Emp defender).

so it looks like we almost have 2 full teams of badgehunters that want to do this. That is fantastic.

I am sure I can wrangle up another full team in game of Badgehunters (SG and Coalie)

3 full teams of motivated players sounds like an excellent start.

Just as a heads up...it should be dropping live next week at some point (probably Tuesday) according to this post http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=256191&page=2

So compile the list already, let's get people talking now. We have a weekend here where we can show up and discuss (hell, we can use the open-zone Praetorian maps to show in general how things will work for the instanced version).

I vote for a walkthrough evening sometime this weekend. My ONLY request is that it's after 9pm EDT. I have hard times getting on before that.
