Leave it to Fox News to make the argument that it's a good thing for horrible sugar saturated snacks to be marketed to kids and that the White House should get the hell out of Big Business's way of growing the dietary issues of this nation.

Of course if the White House encouraged people to buy CC Fox would probably talk about how they are having death panels trying to kill kids.

Honestly, I haven't had CC in years, and it's certainly not healthy. The nostalgic part of me would hate to see it go, but the part of me that knows there is no nutritionally redeeming value to the cereal which is marketed pretty exclusively to kids, thinks it might be time for some change.

I'd love to see Quaker or whoever Makes CC pull out the sugar content, give the Captain a healthy make over and make it more nutritional. Ride the Green\Health wave to higher profits.

None of the links in this thread ever went to a Fox news article so I have no idea how that got inserted into this thread other than Smesh simply assuming that it must have been Fox News.

As I shown in a previous post that the original article was from AOL's finance page discussing Quaker Oats and simply mentioned about the White House push for better nutrition.

I don't have a problem hanging Fox News or any news service over shoddy reporting and made up crisis (videogame violence, (se)XBox/Mass Effect nonsense, net neutrality) but I will defend them when they aren't to blame (simply repeating a story from one of the news wires).

I said nothing regarding Fox News or any of their involvement in it. That would have been Rabid Metroid.

The statement I made, which I drew from a news article, refers to the AOL Finance original. The original made several leaps of logic based on, apparently, nothing more than Cap'n Crunch not appearing on the Quaker Oats homepage.

I only stated that it was bad reporting, and it was categorically bad reporting. A more logical progression of events would have been: Reporter notices Cap'n Crunch is no longer on the website, looks up stats that say sales are down, and then MAKES A PHONE CALL to Quaker asking for a statement. And if you wanted to blame the White House trying to educate people about healthy eating habits, you really need to make that connection with statistics rather than assertion. (You can't say the White House killed Cap'n Crunch unless you can back that statement, and not by referring to voluntary industry efforts at educating younguns about healthy food.)

The Fox blog in question is just a link to the full story at Daily Finance, which is the AOL site in question. AOL is the only news organization failing here.

The logical contortions made in that story were pretty bad.

Correct.

One of the articles I found that corrected the rumor mentioned a Fox news source having played a part in this, but I don't remember where the article was or just how much of a part they played. I think (but again, I don't recall for sure) that they reported the suspicions about it being killed as fact.

*shrug*

I'm sorry Smesh, you have my most sincerest apology. I strive to be accurate over on the tech forum and I admit I rushed looking back for the reference and saw it in your post but for some reason I didn't recognized the fact it was quoted from Rabid_Metroid.

Again I'm sorry.

Not a worry.

I'm no fan of Fox News, but I prefer to hit them for their numerous flaws... there's no need to attribute things to them that they didn't do.

Apology accepted, let's move on. I want some Cheerios now.

Then just stop marketing to kids. Just marketed it!

It's not like only kids eat it.

Personally, I love CC. It's yummy! Do I eat it every day? No.
