EU/Onion PvP Event

Where do i start...

Okay, so the EU servers PvP has never been overly populated. I understand that no matter what is going off in game, PvP is always going to be a small section of players in CoH. I can deal with that. But, with the incarnate end game content now around there is no PvP at all. That, i can't deal with.

When Vindicate were around it was probably the busiest time for PvP and while i know things will never go back to that because of the i13 changes, i do think we can vastly improve what we have despite the huge amount of people that left.

So, that leads me to this.

I have spoken with my SG about sorting out a PvP event/competition for ages now. We've all agreed it would be a good thing but i've been too lazy to do something about it. Not only does typing suck but sorting out rules to make it as fair as possible is quite hard. Especially as i WILL be taking part.

However, i've come up with something i feel will make things as fair as possible with the current rules and current players. So, the rules are as follows:


1) There is going to be an event between the 22nd-25th of April. The reason it's that weekend is because it's Easter which should mean more people can be available.

2) After thinking about what would be best for us and considering the amount of interest i've had, i have decided to go with the same format as X4 was... Double Elimination. This means every team will get AT LEAST two matches. So even people wanting to take part totally for the fun aspect will have a second chance to try out the new things they learnt in the first one. It will still be 4v4's. The reason for this is that i feel we haven't got enough people to do anything higher and also it splits my SG up. I know people hate fighting us together so i've compromised teaming with them to make other people happy.

I have drafted a double elimination spreadsheet already and will get random people to assign entered teams a number. This will make encounters fair. I will post this within one day of sign ups closing.

3) This event will be on Union. I would host it on test but with i20/i21 being tested i don't want to risk the event having to be cancelled due to the server being down. I know this does make it difficult for people who want to take part from other servers but my hands are tied.

4) There will be a restriction of one AT per team. So no 4x Shark/WP stalks or 4x Psi blasters. This will hopefully encourage people to think about other things rather than just raw damage.

5) The matches will be played with the same rules as zonal PvP. So the same rules regarding Diminishing Returns, Heal Decay and Travel Suppression. I would love to at least turn TS off but doing that may result in certain set ups out performing others by default. It also means inspirations are valid.

6) The choice of map will be a coin toss done by either myself or by the elected referee.

7) The matches will be 10 minutes long. There will be a 1 minute grace period if someone d/c's during loading. You will be allowed one grace period per match. If someone does d/c, shout out in broadcast within the first minute and the match will be reset. If due to a d/c or no show, you have to fight with 3 players, your team will be allowed to swap ONE character to balance the team out.

8) All matches will have to be watched to ensure no arguments happen without the facts. This will be myself or someone i elect. I will try to pick people who don't enter so they have no reason to be bias. Obviously it won't be myself refereeing in the matches i will be taking part in.

9) Depending on how many teams join will depend on how many days the event will run for. For example, if only 8 teams join, it could be done in one night. If 16 join, two nights would be better. The matches will start from 7pm GMT but to give people time to sort out problems, there will be a 20 minute starting time.

That means if your match is due to start at 7pm, the team who isn't ready has 20 minutes to sort out any issues. The match will have to be started at 7.20pm and be finished by 7.30pm. If one team isn't ready and has less than 3 players they can choose to fight or forfeit. If neither of the teams can not be ready you will have to fight with what you have got. Rule 7 WILL apply to this. This might seem harsh but because it is double elimination, i need to keep things moving as every match is linked.

10) More rules will be added as people ask questions. I'm certain i've missed vital information out so as and when needed i will update this to clarify things.

11) Use this thread to register your teams. The cut off point for registering will be mid day GMT on Sunday 17th April. This gives me a week to sort out who will be fighting who.

All i want is global names so don't list your toon names. It will keep everyone on their toes about what to bring and stop people building counter set ups intentionally. Once you turn up, your 4 toons will be locked to the team. Also, there will be no substitutions as this makes it too complicated. So make sure you are free for the whole event.

Now, On to the rewards.

I've thought a lot about what a suitable reward would be... What would i like to receive for winning? Well, the answer i came up with was plain and simple Influence. I thought about PvP IO sets as prizes but they're not useful to everyone.

So, the prize for first place is 40 Billion Influence. That's Billion, not Million. That is for the winning team. 10 Billion Inf per team member for those who are bad at maths. At the moment, there's no planned prize for second or 3rd place as i want the 1st place one to be as high as possible while leaving myself with at least some Inf left in reserve. I'm supplying this Inf from my own supply.

If there's a lot of interest, i will try to sweet talk a community rep into supplying a gift or two for the two runner up teams but when i typed this, it was an entirely player created event.



The last thing i will say is forget about how much you hate me for this one event. Lets make it fun and who knows, after everything is done, we may end up with regular PvP in RV as people liked what they saw.

40 billion . . . wow. Tell you what rent, can defo count me in. It'll take me a few days but i'll get a team together. Will set up team name/members in the next few days.

Wish I still had a regular pvp team. I will see if anyone is looking for a spare body.

Am definitly up for this - I just need to move my PVP toon from Defiant to Union during that week!

Can't wait for the event as PVP has gone rather quiet past couple of months over here on Defiant.

Im just happy for the opportunity (if it happens) to arena pvp at more regular times.

Well, it seems even the huge financial incentive wasn't enough to create interest in PvP. So, unless i get at least 6 team sign ups before mid day tomorrow it looks like this is off.
