Things I don't like about Alpha Strike
I assume a lot of the hero TFs will never be the weekly strike target. They'll probably restrict it to coop TFs and the six that have direct hero/villain equivalents in terms of level range.
We'll just pretend the shard TFs don't exist
@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)

Actually, I wish they'd open up the Shadow Shard to villains. No matter how villainous you are, you don't want an insane god who shattered a world to turn his eye to your own planet.
Cathedral of Pain is a good start, but more please.

I'm going to have to jump in here and agree that running the same TF over and over again isn't very fun.

Oh and as for people wanting a 50 to have the star, I've always hated exemping, especially needlessly. Why should I lose a bunch of my powers and set bonuses just because you can't be bothered to select one of my missions? It's the one drawback to SSK.

It isn't. That's why I'm not doing it. I do each WST once or twice, and that's about my limit. Most of my Incarnates don't have their rare, none have more than one Notice. I don't feel the need to get it NAO but it really cheeses me off that I can't make any progress at all without repeatedly doing something so horrendously unfun that it's not worth doing.

I run the Weekly twice, usually. I'm only going after the full Incarnate thing with my two mains (one red-side, one blue-). I don't feel any particular need to rush for the Partner badge, and I've decided to take a pretty low-key approach to the whole Shard gathering business. I'm not going to run TFs I hate over and over and over again in a grind. It's not worth it.
I have absolutely crap luck getting Shard drops, anyway, so it's less stressful just to accept that I'm not going to have the new toys any time soon, and then not worry about it.

*Shrug* I'm speaking in generalities. Obviously, individual cases will always stand the chance of differing. If you don't think there's been a heavier emphasis lately on priming lvl 50's for the next round of incarnate content and a decrease in action in the mid-ranges as a result... you're welcome to your opinion there but I'd have to disagree.

I was just saying that I feel no particular need to do it all right now myself.
My Incarnate character (I only have one that is getting everything) has his Cardiac Rare slotted, and I doubt I'll bother with the Very Rare, because it doesn't really benefit him much. He's endurance sustainable with just the Rare, and he'll only get about 1.5% more resistance out of the Very Rare so I don't see the point.
My main will be getting the Very Rare Spiritual.....eventually. I don't really care if there's more emphasis on anything, I'm going to continue playing the game at my own pace. If that means I miss out on something because I wanted to play my level 17 Controller or level 27 Tank, so be it.

To be fair, what really is so entertaining about cranking up the TF so that it's actually a challenge, fighting your way through (or whatever) all the challenges as pretty clearly intended, etc... when you're doing it for the 15th time?
I think this is something of a core point in your post. You personally don't like speed runs or foes being at -1, etc., but honestly, are you really going to enjoy the Kahn TF that much the 21st time you run it in a week, no matter how it's played? |
Any time you give players fewer tasks to do than can be counted on the fingers of both hands, you incite speed runs, grinding and burnout through sheer boredom. Yes, "content" (by which I mean a "system") is cheaper to produce when it doesn't involve the art team all that much, but that cheapness is reflected in the final experience.
To me, the entire Incarnate system feels like a time sink. I thought it would be something more, but that was me foolishly expecting the system to come with much content alongside, which in retrospect was not a realistic expectation, given the cost of investment of such a thing. As such, it's just buffer stop at the end of the line. When you get to 50, you no longer hit a solid wall that stops you dead in your tracks, but instead hit a slow field that gently brings you to just as complete a stop, only more slowly and less noticeably.
The reason people call the Incarnate system raid grind, is because of the grind, and the grind happens because there's really not much else to do but grind TFs. And that - as pointed out above - doesn't last as long as one thinks it would. How much fun ARE those TFs going to be after the tenth, fifteenth, twentieth time? Not much, not from where I'm standing.

not making a direct comparison between it and our endgame, but the nge was considered "more content".

However, a better example may be to consider AE.
Let's Dance!
Personally, I'd much rather do speed runs of most of the weekly strike targets.
Of the TFs offered so far, I've done every one of them at least 30 times in the past. Most of them I did 5-10 additional times while they were the WST. The point being that they're not new and interesting any more. Sure, they're fun or I wouldn't do them, but part of the fun for me at least is in doing speed runs and seeing how fast we can pull them off.
However, if I'm leading a team, I always make it clear to everyone involved before we start that we'll be doing a speed run so there's no confusion. I also ask if everyone is familiar with the speed running tactics for that particular TF.
And if I'm not leading, I make sure to ask the leader if we're doing a speedrun before I join.
This tends to get rid of most of the problems, though I still run into some, like the guy last week who agreed to join a speed LGTF and told me he knew what to do, but continued to fight the mobs killing infernia and glacia even after repeated requests to let them die.
The Incarnate system did exactly what the Devs wanted it to do... Play on teams more.
Typically when a new TF comes out, there's a big swarm to see what it's all about, then if you can't catch that initial wave, you're out of luck. Outside of "profitable" TF prior to the Alpha slots, they were difficult to find. At least now, you can feel pretty confident if you want to run the TF of the week, you can.
The talk about speed runs vs normal play is kinda moot. It's easy to find a team doing one or the other. With shards still being in somewhat rare supply to the common player base, there are always those willing to just go with the flow in hopes of getting shards. In the same regard, you almost always have some team doing the TF for the fifth time that day who just wants to get it done. All it takes is asking the leader (or being the leader) what pace the TF is going to go at.
I would love to see some stats on how many teams and TF have been formed in the last month as compared to the last, oh, three years. I bet it's up 500% at least.
For the record, I greatly enjoy the Incarnate system so far. It has people in my Super Group excited to do and experience new things. Everyone has chosen a character or two they want to make more powerful and we make time to run the TF of the week together.
I'm going to have to jump in here and agree that running the same TF over and over again isn't very fun.
I currently have 5 level 50s. Only one of them has anything beyond the common alpha. Doing the same thing over and over again really breaks the immersion for me. If I run a TF once I can think to myself "Yay, I saved the world" but then if I go and run it again, and again, and again, it just feels like grinding. It quickly stops being fun.
I ran the Kahn TF three times, and that was already far too much. I wanted to run a Barrracuda to balance it out, but nobody wanted to do that because it's harder and takes longer.
I didn't run a single LGTF this week. I wanted nothing to do with it.
I'll probably run a couple SP/SM TFs this week, because some of my characters don't have the badges, but I certainly won't be running several of them.
Also, out of curiosity, has anybody stopped to notice that the villain TFs will be getting a lot more action than the Hero TFs? There's a whole lot more Hero TFs to choose from. Fifteen Hero TFs, Four cooperative TFs, and just SIX villain TFs. There are 2.5 times more hero TFs than villain TFs.
