Places You Can't Equip Alpha Slots

Is it intentional that you not be able to slot an alpha slot in Ouroboros? The game telling me that it was unable to equip the slot because I had "used a power or been attacked too recently." It also appears you can't change slotting during a Task Force.

As per Pwiki... "Characters can switch between Alpha Abilities by simply equipping a new ability. The old ability is not lost, but simply switched out. There is a 5 minute cool down between equips. Also, equipping an ability is prohibited by being in combat and may require additional cool down time or leaving the mission to equip."

Which would make sense if I had been in combat or had more than one alpha slot to switch between.

Is it possible that maybe summoning the Ouro portal counts as summoning a pet and entering combat?

Other than that, I've got no idea. Might just be a bug.

There seems to be a bug that sometimes makes it so that the timer never runs out. I'm not sure what causes it, but the one time it affected me, it told me I had to wait 5 minutes, so I went and poked around on the web for at least 5 minutes, came back and was told I still had to wait, so I turned Walk on, turned it off, and wandered off to make some food. When I came back, more than 10 minutes later, it still told me I had to wait. I summoned an Ouroboros Portal, went through, and equipped it immediately (while in Ouroboros, so I'm not sure about that bug, Zombie). I know of at least two other people who have been unable to equip no matter how long they waited, motionless, without activating any powers, but were able to immediately after zoning.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what got me. In fact it almost seems like the character had slotted the alpha before and it got removed somehow. I ran an Apex TF with him yesterday and didn't notice any special debuff (although I did run with 7 Corruptors...) I was halfway through Khan when I noticed it was unslotted, and nothing I did would let me slot, even logging in and out of the game. I assumed it was connected to Ourobus just because I could only slot it after warping from Ouro to Atlas. I also tried equipping it on a mission map during the TF and couldn't. Maybe it has something to do with PBAoE attack auras triggering the "power recently triggered" code? The character does pretty much permenantly run Arctic Air, although it had been off for 15 minutes or more when all of this happened.

I swapped alpha slots while in oroboros last night, so I know it is possible.

Other than that I can say that I have been hit by the timer not being reliable a few times.

I haven’t run into very many problems equipping my Aslot lately. In fact i have upgraded right in the middle of a mission and within seconds am able to equip the new upgraded Alpha, no 5 minute cool down or anything. But there have been plenty of time where it just WOULD NOT let me equip it until i zoned or something.

I have had this happen to me a couple of times - the most recent was last night, I finished a Khan run on my ill/rad, went to oro and finished crafting a spiritual rare then tried to slot it in place of the cardiac rare and got the timer error message. I figured it was due to just finishing the TF, so I logged out to get some dinner. I logged back in again after dinner, got the same error. Then I exiting oro to dump some stuff on the market and I could swap alpha powers.

So it looks like it isn't JUST being in oro - it looks to be a problem with the timer not running out in oro, or something along those lines.

EDIT: I got curious so I ran some more tests - I was able to confirm the following:

1. Just summoning an oro portal does not count as "activating a power" - I was able to summon an oro portal and then swap alpha powers.
2. Being in oro seems to be enough to block swapping - it doesn't appear to be a timer issue. I know this because I swapped powers in talos (to make sure it was working) then stood around for 5+ minutes (waited extra time to makes sure) and went to oro. Attempting to swap alpha powers failed with the "you have activated a power to recently" error. Immediately exiting oro allowed me to swap again.

There is a second error you can get if you have tried to equip/unequip an alpha power to frequently, it is "Incarnate ability Spiritual Total Radial Revamp has not been equipped because the cooldown on equipping/unequipping Incarnate abilities in that slot has not yet expired.". Interestingly enough, being in oro will always give you the activate power error instead of this one, even if it is applicable. I ran one test where I summoned my oro portal, swapped my alpha, then went to oro and attemped a swap. Instead of the "cooldown" error I got the "power activated" error.

I do remember in the past being able to equip/unequip my alpha slot while in oro, so as a final test I checked to see if this was a problem specifically with the rare component, so I logged on 50 I hadn't bothered to upgrade to rare yet and got the same error when attempting to equip/unequip the uncommon alpha. So it looks like some change was introduced recently that prevents you from changing the alpha slot in oroborous.

The check for “in combat” actually is checking if you were hit by a hostile power recently. There is a special map-wide power in Ouroboros which technically counts as “hostile” as the result of a minor unrelated technical limitation. In Issue 20 we made a fix to the limitation and can now flag powers like these as not counting as hits for purposes of things like suppressing Hide or triggering the in combat slotting check and related cooldown. Ouroboros is on our list of places to make this fix, but if you know of other maps that are causing this it is probably the same cause and the same fix, so we would like to know about them. Thanks in advance.

Are you also planning on applying this to various "positioning" powers used by flying enemies?

Is that why Ozone had an anti-TP field in it for so long?

And is this related to how the use of an Ouroboros TP interrupts other zone TPers such as Pocket-D TPer, Mission TPer, and Base TPer? Cause it would be nice if that got fixed too. Pretty please.

Hit, or attacked with? If I manage to dodge every attack the mobs around me throw at me for X time, can I change alpha mid-fight?

I think part of the issue is also the interface used to change slots. There's no clear location to "click" for selecting the power you want slotted... so freqently I don't know if there's something preventing me from clicking, or if I just didn't click in the right spot. There is a text messege that comes up if I'm being prevented from changing due to being in combat, but that doesn't come up on all clicks, and I don't know it doesn't tell me if I have to wait 5 minutes of 5 seconds to click again, especially since I'm not in combat when I click on the power. Also, it seems clicking can put a cursor on the screen where the name of the slot is instead of activating that slot.

In general, it's just not a solid idiotproof interface. I'd prefer to select the power I want slotted and then have a button that actually makes the change. If there's something not allowing the change to be made, the button can appear "deactived."

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

I'm pretty sure Oportals do that because when they despawn they hit you with some sort of force movement thing. Try jumping with a running start away from a portal when it despawns; you'll usually get pulled back towards it in midair.

It seems a lot of destructible entities do that same thing. Next time you're in a mayhem mission, try to run away from a box immediately as you destroy it; you'll get stuck in place for a second. It's even more pronounced when you destroy multiple objects at once.

Why it happens? I have no idea.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Can you use this for the part of Brute Fury that suppresses stealth?

You also cannot equip a slot in Cimerora/Midnighters Club.
Kept telling me as well that the slot needed to 'cool down'.
I left out of both into Steel Canyon and was able to equip it.
