Downloading and Update problem: piggs/sounds.pigg

I had to get a new computer, and am trying to re-install and update the game. I had to re-install the game I have on disc (CoV version), and then tried a few shortcuts to see about speeding up the patches (since there's been, what 12 issues since then?).

The relauncher is attempting to fix files. And it is STUCK. It has been stuck on the same file name - piggs/sounds.pigg for the last 30 minutes, and I don't see any way of circumventing the launcher to continue the patching. The only thing I think I can do is click QUIT... and start over!

Am I doing something wrong? What are my options?

If you still have access to your old CPU you could copy the files you need over to your new CPU where your fresh install of COH is. You would basically overwrite the new files with the ones from your old harddrive. I have done this and it works. Cuts way down on the patching needed too.

Someone has a guide to this but I can't remember who it is...

The 'problem' is that sound.pigg, on it's own, is 589MB. And the updater is not the greatest at reporting network speeds/processing cycles... It should finish it eventually...

Also, It's probably damn near pointless to install off a disk that old. You're probably going to end up downloading the entire game anyway, so just get the client off the main site (assuming you have no way to copy the client from an old hard drive).

I copied the CoH as last I had it about a week ago from the old hard drive and pasted it into the new drive and everything. Should I just try downloading the game client or is that going to have the save download speed issues as the .pigg file?

Try deleting the .Checksum file and then running the updater again. That will force the updater to recheck all the files and then get only the files that actually need to be updated.

I deleted the .checksum file first thing when trying this.

The download has moved past the sounds.pigg file, which is nice, but it's still barely halfway done.

Seriously. Once this is all finished, I'd very much like the game devs to ship me a set of discs of the game updated to current Issue. If I lose another motherboard again, I'm just not gonna bother with this crap if it means another 12-24 hour update.

I deleted the .checksum file earlier and it ran the checksum, then it still got stuck in the same place. I'm downloading the whole game and I had to uninstall it and start from scratch.

Started from scratch and it's gone past that point. I'm in the same boat as WittyLibrarian; mine's not even a quarter of the way done...I want some discs too (don't think that's gonna happen)!

Any discs would be outdated within months.

What Psychoti said. Even the newest discs (Going Rogue) are already outdated. You can drop the CoH files onto a DVD yourself for backup and then just copy them back onto the drive if something goes wrong.

If you delete the checksum file and it sticks on the same file, go back in and delete both th checksum and the trouble file.

If the mobo dies, you should be able to hookup the HDD and either run from there or copy the pigg files over. The pigg files are what contain most of the game data, etc.

WittyLibrarian, the .pigg files take a loooooooooooong time to load/update. It might look like the updater is stuck, but just let it do its thing.
As The Grim Heaper said, "The 'problem' is that sound.pigg, on it's own, is 589MB. And the updater is not the greatest at reporting network speeds/processing cycles... It should finish it eventually..." He is right-on. Good luck and hang in there.

Once the sound files cleared the updater the rest of the updater took SECONDS. Weird.

Still. Next time, game devs, I wants faster updates!!!
