What works well with FF....
A defenders blizzard has the same base damage as a blaster. |
You are used to corruptor scale damage. Make a Sonic blasting force fielder or go insane.
My first 50 old school char made even before epics existed to cover holes was FF/dark. It was passable and great agains minions and lt and sappers lol ;p but couldn't kill a late game bosses worth a tinker's damn. Mind you once it got Dominate and could pretend to be a mind controller with dark blasts that got a damn site better. But it took Dominate to do it.
Sonic blast my friend. It's got a stun that will mez match with the now No teamate/pet needed Repulsion bomb, and barring that there's always the lovely crafted stun nades. Simply run defender grade tactics to make that hit nearly all the time, you'll want manuvers anyway to squeak out every ounce of personal defence you can still use while your shootin' and not in pff uselessness. It also does the -damage resist debuff that FF is denied having... for no damn good reason in my humble opinion.
Also consider Traps/Any blast you want. Unless you realy want to bubble others.
Cheers!
I am currently duoing as a FF/Sonic defender with... ...another FF/Sonic Defender. Whilst we are ridiculously overcapped for defence, the pairing is demonstrating the strength of the sonic -resist debuffs from the blasts.
FF offers a wonderful control power in Detention Field which allows you to control the pace of the fight / take down an opponent at the time of your own choosing.
Sonic offers an undiscovered gem of a control power in Shockwave. Howl, followed by Shockwave allows shockwave to do a considerable amount of damage - and knockback to control the battlefield.
Sonic blasts are quick animating and enjoyable. We previously tried this as a FF/Rad and FF/Energy duo and it didn't work. Whilst /rad gave a considerable bonus to hit with its -defence attributes the duo wasn't as effective.
I can heartily recommend FF/Sonic as a duo combo of choice.
Thugs.
Enjoy your day please.
Force Field / Dark Blast will be invaluable in Incarnate content imo, with the 64% to-hit all Praetorians and their mother seem to be getting.
@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
Might give FF/Dark or FF/Sonic a try. A cone 100% knockback goes nicely with FF's ST 100% knockback, learn to joust and angle your knockbacks, and enemies land in a nice pile at the scrapper's feet. Add Dark Pit & Tenebrous Tentacles or Siren's Song & Screech or APP mezzes to keep them there.
I have a nice FF/Archery defender. She's positionally softcapped for ranged and AoE, with decent melee (and godlike En/Neg defense).
She's not THE most damaging Offender out there, but she gives Grade A *KABOOM* (Explosive Arrow, Repulsion Bomb, Thunder Strike). If I could log into the game right now (yet another *Unable to patch* error and the update sever is running a whopping 56K right now.....), I'd get you the build. |
Flameanator (50+1 Fire/Fire Tanker - Justice)
Mr.Defendo (50 FF/Arch Defender - Justice)
Willing Havoc (45 Elec/WP Brute - Freedom)
Paragon Lad (32 Claws/SR Scrapper - Justice)
Global: @Mr.Defendo
As someone who's first ever level 50 was a FF/Psi defender....
I highly recommend AGAINST the combo, unless for specific thematic reasons.
With FF's lack of damage boosting abilities, and psi's highly resisted damage type in the late game, just about ANY other blast set would be a better choice.

A defenders blizzard has the same base damage as a blaster.
Let me just say this... Run in mob, shake their hands with soul drain, ice storm, blizzard, hit a blue, dark consumption. If you do it fast enough you wont lose any toggles and will have full endurance. I do it all the time on my FF/Ice/Dark, best defender I ever made.
I'm thinking about leveling a defender FF/x, and still hesitate on the secondary.
