New Weapons!

From my grandson (yes Grandson);
I was thinking scyths and staffs for the scrapers. And also able to make our characters the same way we do when we make our characters on the AE missions.

A Scythe would be a nice idea. Perhaps a pole-arm weapon set is in order, and I am sure the scythe could be worked in with generally the same animation.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat it here.

I'd love a polearm or staff melee powerset.

Staves have been hinted at as in the works, just require a ton of animations. Doubt we'd get scythes as a weapon choice for staves, though, since they not only are terrible for combat but would do lethal damage, whereas a staff set would do smashing. Plus, not interested in the whole army of goths/emos/grim reapers that would be made. But I completely support staves.

And if we were to be able to make our characters like we do custom AE enemies, that would present a whole host of issues and broken characters.

Staffs, yes. Scythes would be a very niche item, and would require it's own animations and powers, so it's unlikely.

Staffs was mentioned by Back Alley Brawler as being one of the single hardest things to do animation-wise, simply because they would have to do EVERYTHING from scratch. It would not share combat stances with any other weapon set, so the very base of the power set would have to be brand new.

Not a trivial thing to do, but I'd like to see it as well.

Gonna have to say no on this one. That would open up a whoel world of balance problems if you could pair any powerset with any other powerset. You'd have characters that would be insanely overpowered (Fire Manipulation/Shield Defense anyone?) and characters that would be completely helpless in a fight (Empathy/Sonic Resonance)

Add to that the fact that they would have to completely rebalance every powerset in the game so it would even work with every other powerset and you have something that would A) take eons to implement, and B) break a LOT of the balance of the game in bad ways.

So, while I support staffs as a powerset, letting us choose any powerset we want and pair it with any other powerset we want is a bad idea.

... Okay, something went badly wrong in the previous post, and I can't get at it to edit it either.

Ravensblood, the devs already tried a system where you could pick any two or three powersets to base your character around without ATs and primary/secondary distinctions, back during the CoH alpha. They eventually reluctantly gave up and developed the system we've got instead.

If they switched out the slashing sound for a satisfying meaty thud I'd be okay with it. I believe that one of the developers has already said that they wouldn't apply any bludgeoning weapons to the Dual Blades set though.

This kinda makes me sad. I would also like to use escrima sticks, and I don't particularly care if they do Lethal damage or Smashing damage, as long as orange numbers pop up when I smack someone.

Likewise, I'd love a wooden bokken for Katana, and I really think the Stave set they're working on should have scythe models.

That sounds like an argument for scythes more than one against...

I'd be happier with kama models for dual blades. Bonus, those would fit in a lethal dmg set.

Actual Quatar for either DB or Claws would be hot as well, although the wrist blades in claws are a nice substitute.

Those are actually called bastones, and they are awesome. You can also use kukris or even knives with it.

I'd like to see them add a katar/buckler combo or even a pata sword to the dual blades set and open up the way for DB/Shield or Shield/DB combos.
