Speculation and Hopes for the Animal Booster
Beast run looks like absolute garbage.
Don't put that crap in my game. Anthropoid skeletons weren't meant to move like that, and it looks like crap in Champions, and it looks like crap here in City of Heroes. |

From what we're seeing here (we still haven't seen how leaps and backflips look) and what we know of its stats (ninja run speeds) the base animation seems a bit more stretched out than the other game's base beast run, but not as extreme as the sprint's constant-leaping. We'll be able to judge better once all this is visible.
If it ends up looking like crap just CHOOSE not use it.

Make it LOOK good or don't do it at all Paragon.
I miss Sexy Jay and BaBs because they knew that while making the players happy is the right thing to do, making your game look slipshod and embarrassing wasn't the way to do it.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...

I always thought that the normal beast-run looked bad in Champions, but loved the way the shift-run "sprint" looked with that leaping, stretched out look.

Can't speak for the dissenting opinion stated above, but I'm guessing if some folks are on the fence or even critical of the current peeks and Beast Run, it's because of these missing animation elements as well as the leaping ones you've pointed out.
Yeah but I have to SEE other people using it, unless you can tell me how to edit it out of the game somehow.

psst...As an outside observer here, you aren't "the players". You're *a* player.

And Jay hasn't gone anywhere, but don't get me started on him.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

BaBs, though he did many great things for CoX with being a strong behind-the scenes advocate and heavy lifter for the current power customization system, had nothing to do with the Ninja Run animation. That was a newer hire, whom if I have my facts straight, still does not have a red name on the boards.
Edit to clarify: what I'm getting at is the same animator who midwifed Ninja Run may also be entirely behind Beast Run.
If its not finished I reserve judgement, but from what is available that animation is pathetically bad. If the skeleton can't do it well, do not do it.
EDIT: The point wasn't that they worked on it, but they exemplified my point. Make it look good, or don't make it.

And if we ever get that hidden demorecord-armslider it will look great in CoH. But as it is, the human body just wasn´t made for that style of movement...our frontlegs are just too short :P

To be honest, David is one of the few artists that I've ever seen show good sense about one simple fact - if you give players the ability to express themselves creatively, they WILL make horribly ugly artwork, where character designs count as artwork in this context. This is, in fact, one point to which he conceded - that even given the tools available to players right now, and indeed given the tools available to players back at Launch, it is possible to make characters ugly as sin. This goes hand-in-hand with giving people the ability to make amazingly beautiful, cool characters out of that same selection of items. The greater the customization, the greater the margin of ugliness.
To play City of Heroes under the impression that you will never see other people playing ugly characters, doing and saying stupid things or writing horribly stories is so absurd as to be borderline psychotic. Does this new pack allow for more people to do that? Yes. Has there EVER been a pack which didn't give people new way to be ugly and stupid? No, not really. That's just how it goes. To complain about this is as futile as arguing with your own echo.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

@Golden Girl
City of Heroes comics and artwork
Do I even have to bring up the point that you not liking how it looks is your subjective OPINION on the matter, not a verifiable scientific fact? Oh well, I guess I just did.

How you can even argue that is insane.
Even in a game where you can expressly increase the length on a chararacters arms, it looks like utter garbage.
In City of Heroes where you can't even increase arm length, it looks absolutely ridiculous.
The skeleton is not made to move like that.
I have no problem with animal toons, heck I play two, but unless they build a beastial skeleton (Longer spine, longer arms, shorter legs etc) the beastial run looks sloppy and slipshod.

But, my lower lumbar aside, she does show that its scientifically POSSIBLE for a human body to move like that. It just doesn't gain any benefit from doing so.

You can "adjust" arm and leg length in Champions and it still looks like crap.

...and that's how a refutation of an opinion is done properly.

That other new thing has tried to reduce the amount of customization available to make players fit in with their chosen art style - but it hasn't worked

Regarding the look of the PCs and NPCs? Bad!

ya know, i reiterate the question i asked when people went for the last trolling, why do you guys go for the bait? someone trolls, let it slide, we are getting beast run, battle won. haters will hate, 4 channers will make stupid furry comments, but they lost, let reality be your victory lap, otherwise you turn the whole thread into one big urinating contest.

I´ve made this toon during CO beta and doing the beastly run he actually looked pretty awesome...despite the fact that he has too many fins (while CoH has to few).
