Kinetic Melee?

I just resubbed about a week ago, after a 14 month hiatus and Kinetic Melee is something completely new to me. It seems like a rather slow animated set but the secondary effect of -Damage somewhat intrigues me.

I had been wanting to build a high recharge /Regen build and leverage MoG and Shadow Meld and was just wondering if any of the weakness in the KM set could be counteracted by high recharge.

Also, how does the set feel? How is it for Endurance Usage? Thanks in advance.

I've taken a Brute KM to 50 and it was a lot of fun.

It's actually not that slow, and the attacks flow from one to the next very smoothly.

The damage debuff is negligible for non-tankers, except for Burst, but really the knockdown of Burst is more effective than the damage debuff.

Concentrated Strike hits really hard.

Power Siphon is interesting and if you can keep it going it is very significant. This is the main benefit a high recharge build is going to squeeze out of KM.

All the attacks are good except the Torrent clone. I really like the ranged attack and Burst in particular.

If you get a couple of KM toons together on a team it sounds like you are at a jet testing facility. The sound effects of KM are crazy.

I like all the animations except for the t9, which looks like a drunken monkey attack or something along those lines.

Should be said again, the set is not slow. It gets that perception because the damage doesn't show untill the end of the animation, but it's not a slow set at all.

I love it. PBAOE, Ranged attack, and high DPS.

Repulsing Torrent is suckie, but I guess they all can't be winners

I have a level 35 KM/SR Brute who's very fun to play (Speedster concept). The attacks, as already said, aren't slow but they seem that way do to the motions made.

I still took Repulsing Torrent which is a nice attack except for that pesky knockBACK effect. With luck it'll be changed to knockDOWN at some point.

What's the optimal KM chain for DPS, and what recharge is needed?

Also what is typical slotting on Power Siphon - 6-slot Gaussian?

depends on what you're running. I prefer either 5 adjusted targetting, or 2 adjusted targetting and 1 rech IO. or if you want s/l defense, 2 rectified reticles and 2 rech IOs.
I'm not big on gaussians in it, but again, largely depends on what secondary you're running and what you're squeezing out of it.

Chain:

power siphon-> BB SB QS BB SB CS

CS: 204%
SB: 195%
BB: 100%
QS: 0%

Focussed burst not required. Ramping is much easier and faster with the first 3 attacks, anyway.

This is how I describe my Kinetic Melee Scrapper regularly.

Mine is KM/Shields. He's some kind of monster.

Absolutely love him.

I have to disagree. I feel that KM melee is absolutely slow. I have played 5 yrs now and most of that time has been scrappers. And while there are lots of slower attacks throughout the various sets, I feel that KM as a whole is the slowest scrapper set around. Just my opinion I guess cause all the number cruncers say otherwise. But to me its damn slow.

There is no crunching involved. The numbers are right there for you to look at. Five of the ten Scrapper primaries have slower animation times in their Tier 1 and Tier 2 attacks, and a bunch have slower recharge. (Tier 1 and Tier 2 were the only ones I looked at just now because I didn't want to bother with a full comparison.)

Yes, it can feel slow because of the animations, and to a large extent how you feel about a set determines how good it's going to be for you. But that doesn't mean it actually is. You might as well be saying "I feel the sky is magenta."

You want a slow set? Try Energy Melee. Then tell me KM is slow.

Seriously though, Concentrated Strike specifically does feel a little slow to me but its damage is commensurate. I often one shot with it. However, I have enough recharge that I can constantly spam any three or four other KM attacks so if I don't want the long animation of CS I don't have to use it. It's less efficient, but it's an option.

In practice, I'll pop Power Siphon, use 5 lesser KM attacks (quick strike in particular is ideal for this purpose thanks to its fast recharge and animation), and then Concentrated Strike when I have 5 stacks of PS. BAM! Often an insta-gib. Rinse wash and repeat.

The set is not slow. It's not speedy gonzalez either. In terms of speed it's fair to middlin'.
