Nemesis shredding defense cap?
It's all of them, to a degree. When the Lieuts go down, they drop Vengeance upon themselves. This gives all of the other mobs in the spawn (and sometimes nearby spawns, if they are close enough) a very hefty +ToHit bonus, among other things. This makes it so that they are effectively countering an equivalent amount of Defense on all of your bots, but even the minions could be doing a lot of this damage, if the Lieuts are dieing first.

Plus, their vengeance stacks. As Aett said, try to kill minions first, leaving any LTs to die last.
Stacked Vengeance from Nem LTs is a defense based character's nightmare, second only to Devouring Earth Quartzes. If there are a lot of LTs in those mobs and your bots are attacking them first, the rest of the spawn isn't going to have any trouble hitting.
The game is at least nice enough to let you know what's going on. When a LT drops Vengeance, there is a flash and the affected mobs' heads glow red.

Not only is it the stacking Vengences from the Lt class mobs, but the Auto-Turrets that the Operations mobs drop have a VERY high to-hit/accuracy and cut right through Defense.
While the auto-turrets don't do much on thier own, they are a real pain in my tucus as I do a lot of in-combat toe bombing with my Bots/Traps MM. Normally my soft-capped defenses let me get away with it pretty easily, but those things keep interrupting me left and right.

I'm not actually farming any specific missions. I leveled this character with a lot of tip missions, a few arcs and a little bit of AE for rare salvage ticket purchases. So I've not done a lot of the later arcs. I'm clearing through a lot of those both for kill farming to get some incarnate shards and to score some reward merits for doing them. Haven't set anything aside as a "farm" yet. I was originally thinking of the nem TV mission since I had done it a bit on my brute, but seeing how they treat my defense based bots that's just not gonna happen.

This may be obvious but make sure your pets aren't standing in the big fuzzy patches.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's not the toxic or standing in something. Everything will be fine, then all of a sudden (likely when an LT dies) they just start getting HAMMERED. No worries, I know what to watch out for now so it's all good. Wasn't a really big deal, just wanted to figure out what was going on so I could adjust my play to accommodate it.
Yep, kill off a bunch of Nemesis LT's and watch the fun as the vengeance stacks up to "vaporize" on all surviving nearby mobs. Massive +defense and +tohit on them makes it much harder to kill the remainder and MUCH easier for them to take you apart.
For Nemesis I suggest killing all minions followed by bosses and take the LT's out last. One Vengeance isn't so bad, but 3+ of them will do Bad Things for your chances to hit them and Worse Things for your defenses.
Fun little trick, team with a Keld and run a full team against Nemesis. Find a group of Nemies clustered around a Cyst Crystal and kill all the LT's, then enjoy the fun as the crystal and all it's veng'd up puffballs proceed to say "We are Fluffy. Defense is futile."

So I've been working on my bots/traps MM lately, just got to 50 and have been running some stuff to farm for shard drops. Now, my bots are straight up softcapped (45.4% to all but psi), but something in these nem spawns is just shredding them like they're mercy island fresh meat. I actually failed a mish because my bots just kept dropping so fast I couldn't defend the person I was supposed to be rescuing (set at a nice easy +0/3).
I didn't see anything that looked like it might be tagged as Psi damage. Anyone have any ideas which mobs are the ones ripping me apart? I'd like to know so I can make them a priority target, because this is just not an experience I've had against most factions.
