Movie Remakes: Your Predictions

Personally, I dislike movie remakes but, since The Terminator franchise is more or less dead, how about a remake of Colossus: The Forbin Project?

I'm actually more excited about the Mass Effect movie more than any more StarWars at the mo, (and thats coming from a real starwars fan).
Before anyone says "hold on a minute, I said movie re-makes" - well, the Mass Effects are so cinematic, tbh it feels like you've seen a film when you've completed them.

I also would put this down to just vapourware like the buying up of the CoH IP for a film, but this time the Bioware founders and executive producers of the game are on-board for the film, so it looks like its going to happen.

...Oh, and Seth Green has got to play Jeff 'Joker' Moreau.

The Sound of Music - In a decisive intellectual coup the director will not make it a musical.

Forbidden Planet – I don’t care who makes it, it will suck. Robbie will look like a transformer. Altaira will be a ****. The special effects will be better but at the cost of acting.

I'd like to see a remake of "The Last Starfighter" , I think it's well deserveing and due for a remake for the newer generations

I'm pretty sure a safe prediction for a remake is "Death Wish" though, it pretty much fits all the criteria

They could even get Lance Guest to reprise his character! Although he, um, looks a little different these days.

Seeing as they're re-making The Mechanic with Jason Statham, I'll agree this is a safe bet.

My wife and I were watching Hellboy last night, and I suggested that Guillermo Del Toro should do a remake of Labyrinth.

And retain David Bowie for it.

With movies like The Brave One and Harry Brown they've already pretty much remade Death Wish.

Honestly, I've been really surprised there hasn't been a TV remake or a Movie remake of Magnum PI. Given how popular the show was at the time, and the fact that they've tried to remake everything under the sun, including Knight Rider, a show of the same era, I'm surprised this never came up as a remake or something.

There's been one in development. Tom Selleck has said that if they make one he won't do a cameo in it because remakes are almost never respectful of the original property and he's not interested in appearing in something that makes fun of the original show.

I would hope he would at least read the script before he dismissed it out of hand.

I know he does those straight to DVD Jesse Stone movies, but I was a bit dissapointed we never saw more of him after Magnum. He did Mr. Baseball, 3 men and a baby and after that... Just straight to video stuff.

Anyway, I heard there was one in development with Matt Mcougnahey as magnum but it got scrubbed. Which is fine I think he'd be horrible in that role.

Also I don't know about others, but I thought Starsky and Hutch was pretty respectful of the original show, maybe that cuz I didn't know the original show all that well but still, I don't think they all make fun of the originals.

[explaining why he refused a cameo in the film adaptation Magnum P.I. (2011) of his TV series "Magnum, P.I." (1980)] I tell you what worries me -- because I love "Magnum" and we have loyal fans -- is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it's OK. And I will not do that.
Right now Selleck is starring in Blue Bloods which is the top rated show on Friday nights, at least as of the last ratings I could find.

This would be the Starsky & Hutch movie that did stuff like showing Huggy Bear trying, and failing, to walk down the street wearing platform shoes with aquariums in them? I'm sure there have been at least one or two others but off the top of my head S.W.A.T. is about the only remake that I can think of that didn't laugh at the show it was based on.

While Selleck isn't top tier, he is a pretty big star in the TV realm.

Those Jesse Stone TV movies do NOT go direct-to-DVD (at least, they air on TV first, generally) and are a big ratings event for the network that airs them (ABC? CBS? I forget). He also experienced something of a career resurgence after appearing on Friends for a while, back in the 90s.

Remember, you can be a big star and not appear in movies. Heck, there's a lot of big movie stars that prefer to work in TV.

Well, were they making fun of the Original show, or 70s fashion in general? The 70s had some pretty ridiculous fashions by todays standards, I think that's a stretch to think they were just insulting the original in that one.

I'm not saying he's not around, just saying he's not as main stream any more, I never saw any of the Jesse Stone movies on TV, and I had no idea about Blue Bloods but if he's in it, I'll give it a look.

I don't know, I think some of that is just issues trying to get a show that's developed over several seasons to work as a 2 hour movie.

Also I think sometimes this a problem with viewing things with nostalgia. People tend to think of the things from the past as being so wonderful, when something new comes out, even if they get close to the spirit of the original, people think they "got it wrong", when really they got it right, the concept just doesn't work as well now for what ever reason as it used to.

Do you have an example in mind? I can't think of any remakes that fit this description.

With Magnum's daughter taking over the family Private Investigator/mooching friend business?
