Resubbed and Confused!

Okay I return again to CoH I remember I quit when they introduced the IO Invention thing. While I am completely lost with that (I come from a world when SO were the BEST enhancements and the 2acc 3dmg builds for attacks!). But that's not why am posting here.

I am posting because there's something confusing me about the Fitness Pool. My new character gets Stamina for free while my older characters waste 3 powers to have it. Shouldn't I get a free respec to remove Fitness pool since now it's a given to all new characters? or am I stick with having to waste 3 powers just to get Stamina (seems unfair to me).

So, should I respect to get Stamina for free (and hence have 3 more powers to select since I dont have to choose fitness anymore)?

You did get a respec. Actually, 3 free respecs were given out, though they didn't stack. Type /Respec to start the process. As you respec, you'll get Inherent Fitness pool instead.

They gave all characters free respecs just for that purpose. I haven't used it on all of my old characters, because rebuilding some of them just to pick three more powers which I will probably not have spare slots for isn't all that useful.

We have been given 2 free respec,s recently the last one was on the the 8th Dec. if you have resubed after that you have missed them . The fitness pool has been made inherent now which you get at lvl 2 ,this game is changing all the time and when people take a break it can seem to be a completly different game ,as with IO,s GR and the incarnate system .welcome back hope you get to grips with all the changes and have fun

Free respecs, when given, are available regardless of the status of the account. Even if the OP resubbed after these respecs were given out, they will still have a free respec. The only thing they missed out on is using the first two, since freespecs don't stack.

Thanks guys!

Yes, I have a free respec (and forgot I have plenty for the veteran reward too). I respecced with one of my characters and it worked!

Any guide on the new updates happening like that Alpha, Omega stuff and what should I need to do with IO/Inventions? I am still aiming for SOs is this out dated? lol

Don't worry, the game is still balanced around SOs, so you can stay with those and be perfectly fine until you get up to speed.

Check the Player Guides section and you can also get help with builds in the various AT forums but as Shadowclone you should be fine with SOs for now

Alpha slot is out! But you can't do anything with it until you get to level 50. When you do get there (or if you already are) you should have a contact added, Mender Ramiel in Ourobos. He starts it all up. (If you can't get to Ourobos, ask any player level 25+ to open you a portal, they should have one.)

It's actually fairly simple. Here's the wiki page for it http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Alpha_Slot

Just want to address this a bit. I've seen this 'complaint' come up a few times. The extra powers you can pick can easily be utility powers that either don't demand slots, or are holders for such IO's as Luck of the Gambler +Recharge.

Free powers can only help characters. Don't listen to people such as the quoted player above. There are lists of utility powers available on many threads on these forums. Use them.

My main is level 50 but is there a reason to play her at 50?

Yes, the Incarnate System is exclusively for level 50s.

Depends on what you consider to be "reasons to play".

  • Unlock Alpha slot and get Alpha Boosts
  • Do Task Forces: Statesman, Lady Grey, Imperious, Dr Kahn, three of the four Shard TFs, Lord Recluse, Barracuda, Apex and Tin Mage Mk II can all be run at 50 without exemplaring down.
  • Exemplar and do the other Task Forces and story arcs
  • Visit Praetoria via Pocket D
  • Engage in PvP
  • Switch sides: Have your hero become a villain or vice versa!
  • Play player-made content in the AE house (can be hard to find with all the farms but good stuff there for those who look
And that's just to get you started. I should note that the Apex and Tin Mage TVs require you to be 50 and have your Alpha Slot unlocked to even join and require a boost slotted to really be effective. Plenty to do!

Would be nice if there were a place where they posted about recent changes to the game. They could call it something like "patch notes"....

Would be nice if people could answer questions without snark. They could call it something like "not being a ******".

Considering the answers were in the most recent issue notes, the snark could have easily been avoided by doing even less work than it took to ask the question by simply checking the painfully obvious places to look. It would be nice if people made at least the minimal effort to find their answers before asking.

As mentioned, SOs are still what the game's balanced around. Even some of the characters I used to unlock the Alpha slot were SO'd out (or on their SO builds.)

As for inventions:

You don't *need* to do anything with them. However, even if you look no farther than common IOs (damage, acc, recharge, defense, etc.) they can be of benefit, since they don't expire (and from 35 on, are stronger than an even-level SO.) I tend to kit out with them at 15 and save the money I'd otherwise spend on DOs 'til I'm ready to jump up to the IOs (and use SOs in between.)

Using set IOs, you can do one of two things (or a combination of the two) -

1. Frankenslot. Using, say, Acc/Dam IOs from multiple Ranged damage sets (pay attention to the set type your powers can take!) you can squeeze (say) 6 slots worth of enhancement out of 5 slots.

2. Go for bonuses. Want a Blaster with some defense? Start looking for sets that provide it, and slot for it. (Note that you can't have more than 5 of the same bonus type-and-level - for instance, 3% Smashing/Lethal defense - active. Slot more and they'll be ignored... but more 1.85% will work.)

Don't forget our wonderful flashback system, which lets you run through any story arc or badge mission below your current level range (all of them for 50's). And with I19, they've added the Calvin Scott TF into the flashback system. To get there, all you need is the oroboros portal, which you get by completing any arc or having any badge related to time travel. If you don't have it, you can either ask another player (virtually anyone over 25 has it already) and pick up the explore badge at the top of the structure, or just take your 50 to RV and snag one of the explore badges there.

Also, in case you didn't hear, the Positron TF has been completely redesigned, and it's far more interesting and player-friendly than before. WB and have fun!!!

Make sense. I guess "generally" I should only worry about Inventions when I hit level 35+ I guess the cookie-cutter build days are no more! (oh the easy times of 2 SO acc + 3 SO dmg enhancements!)

Thank you, I am having a blast with my characters. Problem is, too many of them!

The flashback system sounds promising. I remember collecting some of the "accolades" were tough because you needed a level 12 badge if I recall correctly. That was a tough one.

Welcome back, Pet77. (They always come back.)

As for Tyger, his response was not so bad. Compared to other forums, it was down-right jovial. Try not to read anything into it other than a minor ribbing.

And as you can see from the respondents, CoH is still a very helpful community. Join the "N P C" channel (New Player Counsel) in-game /chan_join "N P C" to get answers to questions. You can click on the link in my Sig to see what it's all about.

Yes, I'm an evil, horrible, soulless jerk because I expect people to learn where to look for such answers themselves when they're so easy to find rather than always expect others to hand them to them.
