Incredible Feats of Forum-itude

It may sound dumb, but I quite literally stop and salute Cyrus every time I use that train station. I get a little misty-eyed, too.

Troy Hickman - So proud to have contributed to and played in this wonderful CoH universe

And since it is Christmas time again...

A few years ago Troy appeared in-game as one of his many off-beat superheroes at the Cyrus Thompson statue on each of the servers for several nights running on a set schedule. Fortunately for all of us, it was NOT Disturbing Grandma!

It was pretty cool to see one of Troy's characters (in this case, it was the Green Beatnik) and banter with him for a while, but what was also pretty cool was meeting some folks from the forums that I had never seen in-game before. So it was fun to meet the Blue Heeler, who I only knew from the GREAT photos of his Blue Heeler that served as his forum avatar.

I must also bring up that once the statue arrived in game, others have pushed to see the actual community center depicted in the comic, whereas I and a few other smart alecs noted that across the street from the statue in the comic book was a storefront that read "MON GROUNDS."

The joke was that a speech balloon obscured what was probably the rest of the name, COMMON GROUNDS, which was Troy's Eisner-nominated trade paperback, so it was meant as a sly nod to that famous shop. But the vocal few acted as if MON GROUNDS was the actual name of the business, leading Troy to quip that it was "a Jamaican coffeeshop."

All that said, the "Smoke and Mirrors" arc was hands-down the best of the CoH Comic. Troy was at the top of his game, and not only did he give us a Silver Age hero in Cyrus Thompson who exemplified the best of his ilk, I have always thought his Statesman was the best take on the character I ever saw.

SPOILER:

Cyrus is collapsed on the ground, and Statesman gently raises his head and shoulders up. "Did you stop them?" Cyrus asks weakly. "No sir," Statesman responds, "but YOU did."

Friends, that is great stuff. It still gets to me, writing from memory.
*MilitarySalute to Cyrus' statue*

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

I believe you are in the lead, sir.

I'm not sure if anyone else runs forum searches to find out if anyone has talked about them

I think he's starting to make limericks now and handed the reigns over to Marcian:

Shadowe actually had to stop adding tales of his alleged wisdom (or the lack thereof) to his signature. Unlike Samuraiko, he has quite a large ego, but decided not to bother creating a website solely dedicated to it.

(Edit: on reading that back, it could be taken as a dig at Michelle. It's not meant to be. I really DID consider creating a web page to link my sig to with every single "wise" reference on it, but figured that my ego was quite large enough, thank you.)

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

I remember Friggin' Taser getting all the forums on his back because of jealousy/lack of a sense of humour/arguments etc back in the CuppaJo days.

Budweiser from Champion got threads locked on several servers for advertising an event on his home server.

X-Funk has trolled so many people, both on Pinnacle and elsewhere, that Community Mods have called him "a handful".

Champion used to have week-long flame wars over Hamidon raids...most notable between Captian_Blaze and Lord Stryker and others.

Enhancement Diversification thread that must have hit close to 300 pages...

Well that was uncalled for.

I love that someone necro'd this thread to complain about people being too popular.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
