Occasional stealth failures?

Stealth is: Cloaking Device, Stealth IO in Sprint, total of 65 feet.

I have been having a lot of fun mining things. 8-10 trip mines and a time bomb. Whee! For extra fun, I also tend to toss smoke grenades.

Every so often, when I go to set up my time bomb, something starts shooting me, whereupon my stealth suppresses to 15 feet and everything else starts attacking. No snipers in site, no drones, just ordinary Longbow or Arachnos.

Are there things I should be aware of that need more than 65' of stealth to stand next to? Does stealth occasionally drop for a millisecond or something? Any suggestions?

I'm soloing, so it's not other people.

Stealth drops when you activate an attack power I believe. Putting down a time bomb is (as far as the game is concerned) an attack and will thus suppress your stealth for a few seconds.

I've seen what you're talking about and I've come to believe its the IO that's failing in that situation. There's a gap between that stealth wearing off and when it's getting reapplied. I think server lag can lead to this being something that effects game playl, similar to when a power in recharged in your tray but you can't activate it.

Cloaking Device has 15ft unsuppressible stealth, so even if you fire off an attack mobs that haven't been agro'd will have that 15ft subtracted from their perception distance. So any other mobs in the room that have 60ft perception will have 45ft perception when looking at you.

Smoke Grenade applies a massive debuff to a mob's perception radius. Even level minions are dropped to 8ft, IIRC. If you're doing battle in tight corners, two mobs close together for instance. Smoking the second mob will give you space to battle the first mob without being seen. Hopefully.

Is it just Longbow and Arachnos ? Some of these mobs have higher perception than usual. Bane Spiders all do, for example ; there's also many arachnos and longbow bosses with tactics (which I assume gives the mobs around +perception like the player version does).

I'm not the original poster, but I see this as well even when just running through missions using Stealth + Stealth IO.

And it's not just Arachnos and Longbow, I've seen it against pretty much every group out there.

I kinda tend to think it's like a poster earlier said, Stealth IO doesn't quite overlap itself properly so your stealth level drops briefly...but long enough to be seen by enemies.

I believe Time Bomb, like Trip Mine, isn't actually counted as an attack, which is how the 'toebomber' tactic works.

Time Bomb is definitely not an attack. The stealth dropping before re-applying would make sense, though. As would bane spiders having just a bit more perception.

One additional factor is that Longbow Eagles have an auto power that suppresses stealth powers. It is the power that causes them to prefer to stay at range. It checks periodically if there is an enemy within melee distance, and if so causes them to fly some distance away. Why this power should suppress stealth powers I have no idea. I'd think it is a simple flag that could be turned off, but maybe not. I know it has been brought to the devs' attention, and the fact that it has not been changed would seem to indicate that it is either WAI, or not currently worth the effort to fix.

So for stealthing missions versus Longbow, give the Eagles a wide berth.

Ah-HAH! That would explain it.

My mistake.

It's not that the power suppresses stealth specifically, it's that it's an autohit PBAoE attack power. Any stealth which suppresses when you're hit by an attack will notice the attack, and be suppressed.

It may be possible to fix the issue by modifying the power to not notify on attack, but I'm not certain of that.
