shards drop only in TFS?

according to the I19 patch notes, incarnate shards are supposed to have a chance to drop from lvl 50+ enemies in PvE. has anyone had that happen outside a TF. I know they drop from enemies during a TF but I haven't had a single one drop outside of a TF.

I have run at least 15 tip missions and at least 20 - 25 RWZ missions. have to say, it appears the drop rate for rickti merits has increased because I have gotten around 100 of those to drop along with at least 50 recipes and untold amounts of regular salvage but not 1 shard.

if anyone has gotten a shard from defeating a mob outside a TF, could you please let me know where this happened - street sweeping, in a tip mission, in a regular contact mission, etc. right now, I feel like they left a little foot note off of the patch notes about how you can get shards

I have farmed the liberate tv mish like 5 times and still no shard so I donno if they really do but I think they are suposed to.

I ran a council mission set +4 +8, giving me level 53 mobs, after clearing the map the mission owner got 4 Shards, and my helper got one shard. They do drop, but just not commonly.

Thanks for the info. Thats the first time I've heard someone really getting em outside of a Tf so I will keep trying.

I just got one from a Rikti attack on Grandville while solo as I was about to log for the night.

Just got one in a L50 paper mission.

The odds of getting them from minions is pretty abysmal. Make sure you have bosses in your missions for the best chances.

Edit: You can see some datamined and estimated drop rates here.

As long as the enemies are 50+, they stand a chance of dropping. Did a Rush the Rikti mothership raid today, got 4 in half an hour. (along with 600 merits lol) So yes, they do. You have to have the slot open, by the way, so make sure you've got your 50 through Ramiel's arc first, as far as I know.

Since completing the arc, I've gotten 3 additional shards in 12 hours of solo play:
- one from the Rikti raid in Cap
- one doing the Rogue Morality mish
- one from a group of Rikti standing around in PI.

If you have enough Vanguard Merits, you can use 150 to buy a Gr'ai Matter once every 20 hours. 4 of those can combine to make one of the other ingredients for an Alpha recipe.

As a completely unscientific add-on to this, and I test group is tiny (6), but drop rate from AV kills seem to be better than boss drops rate. I got 2 from Romulus on back-to-back respawns during the ITF.

Golgothen

I got 3 just running tip missions. They don't drop especially often, but they drop often enough that you should be able to create Alpha slot stuff within a week of solo play.

they drop outside the tfs, that's for sure, but the rate is way lower...

example with same enemy mobs : farming the Cimerora walls solo, i have about 2 shards/hour....... doing a 30-40 min quick ITF i get about 3-4 shards.

That's because everyone on the team is killing just as many as you are and it doesn't have to be your kill to have one drop for you. Confirmed that last night.

I saw that but I believe that information came from beta testing and a few things may have changed in the final promotion.

I am running one of my 50s at +1/x3 and the other at +1/x4, both with bosses active. most tip missions, I get at least 4 or 5 bosses. the Vanguard missions usually only have a couple in them. but decent numbers of Lts are sprinkled in as well.

thanks for all the replies everyone. appears the RNG is just not liking me right now. hopefully that will balance out.

but good to know that they can drop, so will see how it goes. so far though, I am going to gather enough Vanguard merits, just running basic missions, to buy a Gr'ai Matter (or 2) before I see a shard drop

I got, NO BS, 8 from a LGTF. Combine that with the piece your given from completing the TF and I was able to make my cardiac slot in one session of game play. I had thought i had recieve 4 until I saw my numbers. As is it 4 to craft, I had just enough!
(I was on my stone tank bungalo bill last night) What's crazy is that I even got a end of TF IO and a purple IO. I racked up like a mad man!!!
Also, we were getting vanguard merits like no ones business! If you dont become a member of the vanguard before running that TF, your just dumb..really dumb. For real.

The RNG has been hating on me for over a year.

No purples and so far after 2 full nights (sporadic play preventing a TF) only 1 shard drop.

I wish I could buy them with hero/villain merits.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Ran a mothership raid last night, scooped up 3 shards (+ the one 1 I had) and around 500 merits to boot! One ITF and I'm ready for my cardiac slot.

The minions, lieutenants and bosses in Rikti and Zombie invasion events are all level 30. Only the Elite Bosses are 50, and therefore are the only enemies that can drop shards. Considering how FEW chances you'd get during one, if you got a shard during an invasion, you are the luckiest SOB I've ever met.

I made this same suggestion in another thread and got slapped down. basically was told that the random drop rate was just fine and that if I wanted more shards, I just needed to join TFs

though I still stick by my suggestion. I really don't see where anything would be hurt by allowing you to exchange 1 hero/villain merit for a shard. maybe even trade in 2 or 3 for a basic component.

even running both tip missions and story arcs, you can still get only 3 merits every two days. that would still be way slower than those people that have the time to run multiple TFs. not to mention the opportunity cost of not being able to trade in those merits for other recipes you might want. but would at least be a reliable way to get what you needed for those of us that generally cannot participate in TFs due to play schedules, etc.

I got one of mine during an invasion in Cap. Perhaps they'll drop, not because of the 'level' of the Rikti, but because they con to your level when fighting them.

TFs have a higher chance for shard drops. Dunno if this is just because there are more enemies than normal, or if TFs have some special code in them that increases drop rates.

You can get them from running paper/tip missions, but honestly why would you? You have an almost 0% chance to get anything that way.

as I understand it, you have a better chance to get shards during a task force because everyone on the team has a chance to get one every time anyone defeats a mob. totally different from how normal drops work, where 1 thing will drop on a mob defeat and it is randomly assigned to someone on the team.

as to why I am trying to get them outside of TFs - not everyone has unlimited blocks of time to play. due to various RL constraints, I can seldom commit to a 2 hour or so block of time without interruptions to run TFs. I may hop on for 20 -30 minutes and can run a couple of tip missions or a couple missions out of story arc. then I can come back an hour or two later, or the next day, and pick up where I left off.

So, asking to clarify, is it defiantly level 50+ enemies unlike purples which are 47+ ?

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

during beta testing, I think I saw some reports that they were dropping off of 47+ mobs, like purples. but as Roderick copied from the release notes, that says only 50+.

just to be safe, I have been running all missions at +1 to make sure that everything in the missions are 50+
