ya know, stephen wright would go for a lot of people, but for nielson, he just had such a wonderful gravitas when he said lines that were clearly goofy, it really sold them that much more. when given something yo work with (i.e. NOT stan helsing) he could really do amazing stuff.

I heard this once - "It takes a good actor to do drama, it takes a great actor to do comedy."

Based on my little experience with movies, I don't immediately recall a great actor who wasn't good at comedy when they had a chance to try it.

The Daily Show ran a favorite line of mine last night in a clip:

Frank Drebin: Thats a red light district, what would he be doing there?
Ed: Sex, Frank?
Frank Drebin: ...No, not right now, Ed. We’ve got work to do.

Leslie Nielsen will be missed. R.I.P.

He was the best president ever. (He played the president in HotShots). R.I.P. Leslie

I can only echo the sentiments here: Leslie Neilsen was a fantastic performer. I still laugh at all the Naked Gun moveis today, Airplane and even Spy Hard. I still remember his appearances on Due South as Sergeant Duncan "Buck" Frobisher RCMP.

I will miss him a lot.

Actually, that was another silver-haired actor who was once known for his more seirous roles: Lloyd Bridges (father of Beau and Jeff).

Leslie was the president in the later Scary Movies.

Pneumonia? That's no way to die.

Getting caught in the gears of a combine. Now that's a way to go.

Well, he had his family around him and was still making people laugh in hospital (which is a big building with doctors and patients in it, though that's not important right now.)

He even made brilliant adverts:

Oh, and Commander Adams... rowr.

*ponders what would happen if Adams and Mal Reynolds ever met in the same space*

*tries to work out how to get to that space*

*retires to bunk*

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

A friend of a coworker works as an airline pilot. Apparently, when Leslie Nielsen would board an airplane, he'd look in the cockpit and say, "I just want to tell you both 'good luck,' we're all counting on you."

Of course, that's all sorts of awesome.
