CoH + Razer Nostromo
I use a Saitek Cyborg Command Unit, which this Nostromo pad seems to be 95% based off of. It all really depends on your companies profiler software (logitech has a copy of these pads running too). Mine has a built in switch with 3 shiftstates, plus the ability to make any of the other 17ish buttons a shiftstate key, giving you a whole 'nother set of commands.
As for control and shift, with my profiler you can set each key to be programmed "shift+1/shift+2" or a single key to be programmed to shift, and then just hold it while you hit your "1/2" style keys.
A trick I use with this is most of the global things like travel and autorun and insps are profiled into the keypad.....minus targeting. I have a slot in my 3 trays with a macro in it for targeting on all of my toons. That way, if I decide I don't want "targetcustomnext" but "targetcustomnear" or a tag thrown in to hunt specific things it can easily be done just by editing/swapping the macro.

I've only used a Nostromo n52(e) for my gameplay here in City of.., and it suits me just fine. I've even managed to turn a few others onto it. If you're a button-fiend, which it sounds like you are, it might not initially be enough to you at first glance, however you can program it to switch the keybinds on the fly, much like how you could to change your power trays in-game.

i have one and it is actually pretty awesome - it treats the numbered buttons as a num pad out of the box on on your thumb you have the num keys but with the software you can tie macros to each numbutton as well as every mouse button - it takes a little getting used to having all that avail and the buttons are a bit small so sometimes you hit 4 when you meant 1 but you get the hang of it pretty fast.
Then there's the Logitech G13 as well.
As someone else said, wish they made the damn things right-handed. I'm ambidextrous, but I still use a keyboard and mouse like a right-hander. Plus the way my desk is built and situated, I wouldn't have space for it.
That's the same one I'm interested in upgrading to Hyperstrike, but I didn't look up it's name since I got the feeling the OPs mind is made up. (The saitek's stick is getting kinda gritty, and "numb" with a little bit of extra deadzone before recognizing movement)

As far as I can tell, that device is very little more than a Nostromo N52 with a Razer badge on it. I've rocked the Nostromo pads since the N50 was released and I don't have a bad word to say about them. It can be a little tricky to get used to for CoX, but its completely doable once you:
A] Get used to the shift functionality
B] Get used to using the D-Pad where you might be accustomed to mouselook.
Definitely found it to be a better plaform for FPS and the like (I picked it up when I was playing MW: Mercs in the NBT League platform) but it can definitely be adapted for MMO play.
What combos of Pad/Keyboard/Mouse do you guys use?
I play with one hand on the pad and the other on the mouse (for manual targeting, UIs, and camcontrol), and reach to the keyboard for chat.

And, wait, I thought I'd be using the D-pad for movement?

You can, if that's what floats your boat. The N52 Profiler (to be clear, the Razer N52 is just the Belkin N52 Tournament Edition...with a Razer badge) will let you map the pad pretty much anyway you like. Since the "d-pad" is just a series of buttons laid out in the same orientation as compass points, you can have them do anything you want...not just movement.

* Technically, I don't activate powers past 6 using number keys, but I use 7 and 8 for teammate selection.

....I wonder how well it'd work to bind power activation there. I mean, I only need eight keys(*) for power activation, and if the D-pad is being... well-behaved about only pressing this direction and not the other one.... =3 If nothing else, it'd save me four keys! (since I could use all eight directions, not dedicate four to being "this one and this one")

My buddy Call Me Awesome has been using the Belkin Nostromo for several years and loves it. He says he only touches the keyboard to type messages, as all of his game controls are set up on the Nostromo keypad and his mouse.
He also uses the Nostromo keypad for his video editing, too.
I have considered getting one, but I currently have a Merc Stealth keyboard (which has a separate keypad to the left for game controls) and a 9-button mouse, so I don't really need it.

Ordered the G13. We'll see how it goes.

I also usually have T bound to a reactionary power, ie: heal other, dark regeneration, taunt, etc.

KGB Special Section 8
Got the G13.
First impression: Bloody hell, this needs a manual!
Second impression: Damn, the D-pad only works in 4 directions, plus as a button. Change of plans time.
Nth impression: Hah, crashes every time I try to bind right alt. Good thing I don't need that key.

Further observations:
The G13 is... interesting. The D-pad is too fond of recognizing some directions than others, but other than that, it's just a matter of developing the all-important muscle memory.
Quite fun, really.
No compatibility problems to speak of.

Between my n52te and my Naga mouse, I hardly have to touch my G15 keyboard except for communicating...and loading bind files.
I could see possibly being able to totally play with just the n52te and Naga, though luckily my keyboard tray is massive.

Update:
...I used to play CoH without this?
Seriously though, using the pad is fun. I miss some keys I still have to have on the keyboard due to there being a lot of them, and can't type with it, but overall, very fun.

So. Due to unforseen circumstances I have my gaming rig but not my gaming desk, leaving me with my old one and its far too small keyboard tray -- it can fit my (standard-sized) keyboard, but not a mouse anywhere comfortable.
As a result, I'm considering alternatives.
Now, I figure getting this baby to play nice with the likes of Global Agenda and Killing Floor shouldn't be that much of a problem. It's City of that worries me.
See, I use lots of keys to use my powers. Lots and lots. Three power trays' worth, plus all chords of q, e and r.
I guess my question is this: Has anybody tried one of those babies out, and knows if some of those keys can be programmed to be treaded as your everyday ordinary chord keys?
