Nub Questions About Teaming

Let's skip how trivial the subject matter is and just focus on the question: Does teaming up effect the game's story? Will I end up doing things out of order, or skipping over events? Its my first character and I kinda wanna see the sights before I just start blazing through.

In general, how does teaming up work in regards to story and development? Or in regards to leveling speed and general fun? I have never even tried a team yet, mostly because I'm still 100% mediocre and easily confused. XD

Another sidenote question would be, does the story level with me? Since I started out a Preatorian, can I do the low level hero arcs on the same character? Will they be faceroll easy? Or do they match whatever my current level is?

Thanks much!

Yes, teaming you will miss contacts, and as you progress, you will also miss contacts teaming or solo.. unless you turn your XP off so that you do not level and can get every contact. Otherwise, once you hit level 25 you can go into oroborous and flashback to the contacts and storylines you missed in most cases

Hi

welcome to the game

Generally teaming means faster levelling.

However this game is so full of story content that even soloing you can miss some stuff.

That is the way it is designed.

You can do a few things to help you see it all.

You can roll another alt and do different contacts with it, or you could switch off your xp so you do not earn any levelling points till you switch it back on.

This game is about the journey not getting to lvl 50. There is so much to do on the way.

We also have a flashback system that you can use when you get to lvl 25 and that will let you do all the content you missed.

Don't rush anything, go at your pace and explore a little, it will not affect the end result.

Have fun

Edit to add: When you use the flashback system your level is adjusted to the level of the game you are flashing back to

Yes you will. In general most teams aim to go quickly with little to no regard for the story (mostly because experienced players have already read it multiple times). As such you will oftne times end up skipping the story as you out-level contacts (you can counter this somewhat by forming the team and then running your contacts so you at least get the story). Another option is to turn off XP every 5 levels and remain that level until you've done all of the story arcs.

Teaming works poorly in regard to story (as described above) unless you are in a situation where you force the team to work to the story (some people will form a static team and always play together so they can experience the story). It is, however a lot faster in terms of leveling and, in my opinion at least, a lot more fun.

Every 5 levels your existing contacts will stop giving you missions and the other contacts in that level range will not talk to you (there is an exception if you're halfway through a story arc though). However, once you hit level 25 you can use Ouroborus to do Flashbacks. In a Flashback you can run (or rerun) a story arc you've outleveled with the following conditions:
1. Once you've started you can't add people to your team or join other teams until you finish or give up.
2. While on a Flashback you can't talk to your other contacts.
3. Your effective level is reduced tot he maximum for the contact if you were doing it normally

There are a few way to get to Ouroborus. The easiest is to go to a populated area with lots of high level characters (Talos Island is good for Heroes) and politely ask in local or broadcast chat if someone would mind opening an Ouroboros Portal for you. Generally someone will (it's a yellow portal thingy). Thank them and click on it to go to Ouroboros. Once there jump up to the highest point and find the Exploration badge, this will give you a power that allows you to open your own Ouroboros Portal (remember to pay it forward by opening one when you see someone ask ).

Just a nitpick... the Oro flashback system won't take you back to ALL the content. But it will take you back to the important content where you may have missed a badge opportunity, or to earn temp powers or merits.

Also, there is currently not much for Praetorian flashback... I believe there may be more added in the future, however.

It will take you to all of the story arcs, which is where the story takes place.

The missions which are unavailable through the Pillar of Ice and Flame, while the contact has dialogue giving some form of meaning to the mission, are not really a part of the game's story.

Its better than it used to be.

Before you'd get a brand new contact and start an arc which seemed really interesting. Then you'd get invited to a team of level 50s, go join them for a few missions, gain 2 levels, come back to your contact and all his missions conned green to you. And you still had to do those missions to clear out the contact so you could get a new contact.

Yes you miss alot of info when you are teaming and not the mission holder, but dont fret you can always go to the ice crystal and redo those missions for yourself and read the content. OR you can turn of XP while teaming and just collect double influence, but most people dont do that. The lure of advancing and getting new powers is always more powerful.

For the most part, though, story arcs are independent, and don't really have a set order. There are some events in early arcs which provide hints to revelations in later arcs. However, some of the newer content has given away the "plot twist" in some late arcs in the older content.

Just as an example, when you join Vanguard, you are given a report which reveals a secret about the Rikti that was originally revealed in a story arc at 35-39. (Of course, the RWZ starts at level 35, but this means you could learn the secret at 35 before you do the arc)

To me, the bigger problem is that you really can't read the story arc info if you are not the owner of the mission. You can use the "More" button in the mission list to read what the briefing says, but things like Clues don't appear to you. You have to get the owner of the mission to tell you what any Clues he finds say. Plus, there's sometimes some NPC dialog that only the owner of the mission can access. I'd like to see something done about this, but I doubt it's high priority.

As previously mentioned, it can help to find a team or SG that tends to run through missions together, so they can discuss the clues they find in them and whatnot.

An item to keep in mind: This game is set up such that it is difficult, if not impossible, for any one character to see all of the content. The idea is to roll multiple characters and each of them sees a different slice of it.

Teaming is a HUGE increase in leveling speed, you spend less time running to missions from the hospital. You get bigger spawns, more XP from that.

Teams are GREAT fun, especially if you get a group of people that you like to team with regularly. In many cases, they'll be happy to run with you, as long as you're honest about your skill and listen.

Since the contacts at high level have links to a certain origin, I recommend either a character on every origin (so many options, so much fun), or turning off XP and running ALL the content before moving on (my plan for blueside), or using Orouboros later on to finish the primary story content (but that could spoil some storylines).

BTW: ThugOne is correct, some games reward grinding one character to perfection. CoX rewards some casual play on a variety of characters.
