"Natural" Melee for Blasters?

Do they not want my /MM Blaster getting into melee to use WoC...ummm...hmmm...well it is a suckie power over all...maybe the question should be...do they want me to take this power at all.

5 out of 9 powers require you to be in melee. So make up your mind when you say such things, because you're contradicting yourself.

Energy Manipulation makes do for now for Blasters with some Martial Arts skills - ignore the glowing fists as just part of the game environment, like the way your head glows different colors when you get inspired.

If I had to make a Black Canary or Connor Hawke Green Arrow homage today I'd use Energy Manipulation.

But a Martial Arts secondary with some of the MA attacks would be awesome, and not at all contradictory to the spirit of Manipulation sets.

I know, it's okay...still not great...and my biggest gripe with WoC is really the pulse effect. Love the bubble, hate that pulsing...cant stand to keep WoC on, it bugs the hell out of me!

Unless I made an error I don't think I said Blaster secondaries are meant to keep them out of melee. They ARE however, largely designed to EITHER keep them out of melee OR to keep them alive once in melee long enough to kill stuff.

Look at MM again. TK Thrust keeps an enemy Out of melee. DP gives you survivability in return for having gone to melee. So does PS with it's stun. WoC confuses as well as doing damage.

You guys know that the devs have repeatedly made it clear that any blaster secondaries they make have to involve fish melee, don't you? I can link to a bunch of other posts I wrote to back that up!


A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

Finally - Manipulation sets are designed to keep the Blaster OUT of melee combat, not to encourage getting into it. I'd be really surprised if the Devs make a new Manipulation set that has more than 2 melee attacks, and maybe a PBAoE.

It might encourage you.

For me I always felt that at some point it was inevitable I would be in melee. Those powers came in very handy at those times. It didn't necessarily mean I had to seek out such dangerous opportunities.

I expect this or dark manipulation to be the next Blaster secondary.

"Natural" melee would work likely similar to Energy Manipulation, giving you hard hitting melee attacks and good KB+Stuns from the MA set as control. SR powers like Quickness would fit just fine.
