How long does it take to level at higher levels now days?

I am only curious because before when I played it got to the point where I was getting bored with my powers, it is not that they are not fun there just was not enough for me to use since it was taking so long to see my new power, I am all about pacing and do not want to run into that again I want to unlock the peacebringers.

When Peacebringers/warshades first came out you needed to have a level 50 hero. Today all you need is a level 20 hero. So if you’re saying you want to unlock a Peacebringer that means you have yet to get even one hero to 20, how long should that take, truthfully around 8 to 12 hours of play on a halfway decent team, spread out over two to three days based on your time to play.

However this brings up the question of what a Peacebringer was and is meant to be, it’s not any easy arch-type to learn or to play, they have some real strengths and some real weaknesses that were meant to challenge experienced veteran players. Not being a veteran you might find then not what you expected and much harder to play then you might think.

Furthermore CoX is not really about the next power you can get if it was we’d be running around with level 80 characters (WoW anyone) it’s about the content and the story as well as the feeling of being a hero and saving the day. If you’re bored now life is going to be very hard in your 30’s.

Just my 2 cents.

I find it funny you say that, you see you misunderstand me I am all about the journey and not the end while wow and other games are about the end getting the same looking abilities over and over, seeing your next power is part of the journey never said I was bored now either.

I am aware of what they can do, I am an experienced mmorpg player espically with jack of all trade types like the pracebringers or warshades.

But try to remember I am all for the content and story as well but pacing is part of the journey my friend.

What do you consider higher levels? For me I consider higher levels the 40-50 range and I usually get just under one level per playsession on most characters in that range playing about 2-3 hours at a time.

The mid levels I consider 25-40 and they usually go a bit faster... at least one level per session in the 25-35 range tapering off to about a level per session from 35-40.

Low levels are 1-25 and they fly by; I usually get a brand new character to level 12-15 in a session and to 25 in three.

My average time in today's game to take a character from 1-50 is a little less than 100 hours.

Like Dark Tower said though Kelds now unlock at level 20, not 50 anymore, which I personally think was a questionable decision on the Dev's part. Kelds are NOT easy to play, there was a reason that they originally required a level 50 character to unlock. They are NOT epically powerful... nor are they weak. What they really are is complicated; they're really three very different characters in one and each form plays dramatically differently than the others.

Most people who got a character to 50 in the old days and rolled up a Keld ended up deleting the character in the teens simply because it played so differently than anything else. Yes they can be quite powerful in the late game, Warshades especially. They're an advanced AT designed for experienced players. I enjoy them but they're definitely harder to play well.

Well over the years with the tweaking of the XP curve, by adjusting the XP of critters at certain levels, the addition of Patrol XP to provide a bonus and the lowering of the debt cap to something like 40% of what it was back in the day, you no longer seem to languish in the 30s as I remembered it.

Also remember at the higher levels, after 32, you only get level picks every three levels with two doses of three slots in between. So the thrill of new powers comes less often which might also be why leveling feels slower. It's more about making your existing powers better than getting a new one that feels like a game changer.

If you a returning player you should notice a positive difference in the xp curve from 30ish to 40. Not such a grind anymore.

Nice to know much hasn't changed since I left . Let me ask this as well. Has being able to up the baddies in your mission improved leveling of your toons later on in the game or made missions that much harder?

Well depending on how long ago you left you may find little or huge changes in leveling speed. Some time ago, I forget exactly when, they went through and revised the XP for mobs in order to "smooth" out the rough places in leveling... primarily in the late 30's. What we got was a substantial increase in leveling speed across all levels, particularly the 1-20 range.

The new difficulty settings have also increased speed and increased the challenge depending on how you set it, you have much more control over just how hard your missions are. If you think you're uber powerful you could set your slider to +4 mobs and an 8 man team. That would have you facing +4 mobs spawned for a full team even when you're solo. If even that's not enough challenge you can try those settings facing Malta, and if that still isn't enough you can turn on AV's while solo and do Maria Jenkin's arc.

On the other end of the scale you could set your difficulty to facing -1 level mobs spawned for a solo character if something's too hard. If you want huge groups of easy mobs then you can set the slider to give you -1 mobs set to an 8 man team... that will give you massive numbers of blue mobs.

It's my opinion that there's a "sweet spot" somewhere between -1/x1 and +4/x8, which varies with the AT's, players, character levels, skill levels -- pretty much everything.

One level 40ish group may be able to steamroll Council on +4/x8 and get everyone a level every half hour. Another group may be able to SURVIVE on the same settings, but won't rack up anywhere near the defeats and experience per hour. Those level 54's are tough, they sometimes take a while to whittle down, and they pack a pretty mean punch -- and the commute from the hospital can get boring. That second team might make more experience per hour over on +2/x8, or maybe +3/x5, or....

Is the first team "better?" No, they're just more in synch with each other that night. Maybe they've got a kineticist and a couple of awesome debuffers, where the second team might not. Or maybe the second group DOES have a kin and the same type of debuffers, but the second team's got five different other types of toons than the first.

Changing difficulties is now cost-free -- my advice is to see what each team thinks about turning things up or down, and play around with it until you find what works best for you at a given time.

I dunno. I do know that when I fight piles of guys that number in the double digits, I enjoy myself more, which might mean what feels like a small amount of time stretches out into more time.

I'm curious about this topic as well. I've only recently returned after having left the game roughly about 4 months after release. I have since got my level 32 dm/regen out of mothballs and now am up to level 38.

I do find, though, that the levelling curve solo seems a bit steep. I am probably doing something wrong, I have no issues with accepting that fact. If I play solo, set at +1/ with bosses, I am finding levelling to be a bit of a grind. I don't stare at the xp circle constantly and just enjoy the game, but it does get a bit disheartening when I can do 4 or 5 door missions in a row fighting reds, yellow, oranges and some purps only to look up and see that I've only progressed about 2 bubbles. After a few hours of play. That would put my per level rate at about 8 hrs plus, solo. That, to me, seems a bit slow.

I do progress faster when in a group, and I have joined an SG, but my server seems fairly low populated so I still end up soloing quite a bit. Is there something that I can do given my AT and power choices and difficulty setting to speed up the levelling a bit?

Open to all suggestions.

thanks

Head down to your server's forum and ask what are the best global channels. A good bit of team recruiting happens on the globals, NOT in broadcast.

Remember that most of the game is instanced and your requests in broadcast aren't visible to anyone in an instance or another zone. Messages on the global channels are visible in instances and across zones (even across factions).

Definitely this. On Guardian anyway there's usually considerable activity on the various global channels; that's where I go when I'm looking to fill a team.

Welcome back!
