To all of those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces, thank you. Those of you who have put the welfare of others above even considerations of your own life, you have my respect and admiration for that. May you serve and live with honor.

As a 20 year (retired) military vet, I greatly appreciate what has been written here.
One of my edicts I held dear to me is a line stated by one of our founding fathers, John Adams, who stated, "I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy".
As a father of two, I am proud to say that both my sons are now exercising their ability to attend college in fields they are interested in, earning degrees in digital film production/directing and computer programming.
Sometime before I pass on, I'm sure my and other fellow submariner's exploits will be told to all of what all we really did during the cold war, but in the meantime, I am happy to say that we did what we could at the time to ensure that the American dream still has a chance, and that our sons, daughters, family and friends will continue to carry on a legacy of what America is about.
Your post(s) warm my heart to know that we are appreciated for our time and sacrifices.
I wish for a speedy return to all our current active duty personnel overseas (especially our fellow CoHers on active duty and in the reserves serving 'over there' at the moment) and hope that I will be able to raise a glass with them soon on this same day each year to mark their dedication and commitment that they have provided for all of us to carry out out daily lives.
Thank you all, and thank you fellow CoH posters for taking the time this day to recognize those who've served.

This year as always I donated money to the "official" Armistice day charity known as the Poppy Appeal and observed the appropriate two-minute silence at 11am. This is a day I always feel a sort of solemn pride, as both of my grandfathers served during the Second World War. One did not return, and my other grandfather has since passed away due to natural causes, but he was one of the kindest and most patient men I'd ever known.
To the courageous men and women serving all over the world, and for those who served in the past; you have my gratitude and admiration. And for those still serving, I wish you a safe journey home when it comes.

Thanks to all the Vets, especially Coast Guard and National Guard who are forgotten so often when people think about the military. If you are in the donating/thankful mood today, Fisher House is a foundation that helps families of vets be close to them in when they are in the hospital, or Google your local Operation Stand Down, events and groups that help homeless, unemployed, and disenfranchised vets connect with the community and get a hand up.

I know, I haven't been around a lot lately. I had to stop in today though. My grandfather, who was a proud veteran of WWII, passed away last dec 26th in the early hours of the morning. This is the first Veteran's Day I won't be able to say thank you to his face. 
So, Grandpa, I know you're listening..
