Very old player returning...

Hello all! Stopping in to check out the new and improved COX. I actually played back when the game first came out in 04. I can honestly say its the first MMO I ever played. Then after an issue where they nerfed it to where you had dimishing returns with stacking enhancements, I got sapped into the WOW world and been playing wow since 05. But now its time for change and my COX was calling me to come back and check it out. I have no access or dont even know if my old account is even active anymore on here so I just did a 7day trial and am downloading it now as we speak. My question is what have I missed out on? I honstly forgot how to play this game and what are some good AT's to start out with to learn the game...I am 90% a soloer but occasionaly will group up. Are tehre some AT that I need to avoid? Sorry just tryin to get a feel for the game again and would appretaite any tips or advice you all may have! Thanks again for your time!

Old accounts aren't purged so your old account should still be renewable. As for what you missed?

Sounds like you were here for Issue 5 and ED. Start at Issue 6 and start readin'. There's wayyyyy too much to summarize at this point. Two major points:

*City of Villains was once a separate game and required purchased of the expansion, but now it's part of the same game as City of Heroes, so you won't need to buy it to access anything villain-side.
*Going Rogue is the recent new expansion, and purchase of that is needed to access the content that came with it (I wouldn't rely on it becoming free in the future, since it took a couple years for that to happen with CoV).

At this point I don't think there's any strictly *bad* Archetype in the game. Maybe Stalkers (one of the villain Archetype) have some issues, but as with everything YMMV. Oh, and I'm sure you're probably still sore from ED, but try looking into the Invention System for ways to increase your character's powers and abilities beyond the boosts SOs can give you. And coming in Issue 19 in a couple months is the Incarnate endgame system for level 50s, providing even further power.

You picked a great time to come back, but it's probably going to take you a while to delve into all the new stuff.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

Welcome back!

As for what you've missed out on... Wow. A LOT. I can't possible sum up all the changes. Best bet is to get in there. I can give a few highlights.
Crafting System
Auction Houses
No more hidden numbers
Faction swapping

I'm sure others can think of plenty to add to this list, but other than a massive amount of content, new powers, and costume/character/power/appearance customization, those strike me as the biggies in gameplay.

As for what to play.....
Well, all ATs can still solo, and at high levels solo very effectively. Not necessarily all power combos on all ATs, and certainly not all ATs will be equally effective in all situations, but in general, all ATs can solo, and all can bring stuff to a team for your other 10%.

That being said, the ATs best for a fairly new (returning) player IMO would be ones with some level of built in protection, like Scrappers, Tankers, Brutes, and depending on your tastes, Stalkers. As you're a vet MMOer, if pet management is up your alley, add Masterminds to that list.

I know many people will argue for their fav AT saying, "I solo with a Blaster all the time," and they're right, they can, and if you prefer unleashing ranged death, go for it, but for me, I find it a bit tougher in general. I mean, I play Defenders (offenders) solo all the time, and love it, but it's not what I'd suggest for a first go around.

And, as always. YMMV. Good luck, have fun, and again, welcome back!

Well you can start with this, it sounds like you left around Issue6 (19 is on that page but not released yet). You also left shortly after City of Villains released, and the 2 are now merged and you don't have to buy both separately to make a villain. AND as of this summer you can take your hero or villain "Rogue" to the other side if you are interested in that and purchase the only purchasable expansion since you left.

Hm, they also added (in a nutshell):
"Time Travel"-you can use a system to lower your level and do the storyarcs of almost any contacts you outleveled

An Ancient Roman Zone Cimerora

I'm not sure...wings might not have been out when you joined

POWER CUSTOMIZATION-you can now redo the coloring of the majority of the game's powers to be whatever colors you want

Mission Architect-you can create your own missions/storyarcs and publish them to the server for the whole community to play

Dayjobs-Where you logout each character now "matters"(if you are interested), depending on where the character logs out it earns credit towards a dayjob badge, which will have some type of perk, usually a cool power relevant to the location

I'm sure I missed a ton of content, but these are the most memorable/easiest to find skimming the link I posted for me at least.
