Rikti Ship Takedown

I've never participated in a successful Rikti Ship Takedown - is anyone interested in this?

I ran one a year or so ago. The key to success: know their path(s) and have all of the teams focus on a single ship. Easy to take down, just a pain to organize.

I believe we did it in Steel Canyon and Founders' Fall. Go after the ships that are on the longest path ways through a city zone.

Yeah, Vidiotmaps map pack shows paths, so that's useful, but I'm hoping we can get a bunch of Victory-ites together and do a serial takedown...

Whoa I need sleep!

For some reason my brain made me think you meant a mothership raid. But you're talking about the bomb ship. Yeah, I don't recall if I have done that yet or not. Would love to though.

Rather do one redside since the ones I was in last year were blueside. Was one of the coolest things I participated in within the game up until then. Pity I may not be able to participate.

Wish they'd make it easier and give a badge.

I'd like to suggest Saturday, Nov. 5th at ~7PM, so as to stay away from scheduled events... I think Thursday and Friday, people I know have committments. Is this a good time? I'll need help getting more people, and I think Blueside is easier, zone-size-wise and people-willing-to-try-wise.

(I just saw your post Zam - I'm willing to try Redside, but I am dubious that we'll get enough people. Maybe we can start Blueside and switch when we've done a few as proof-of-concept for the group...)

I think the devs explicitly stated that they wouldn't give it a badge so that it would be a fun optional activity rather than something people felt like was required. Besides, a badge mean people will just do it once and then ignore it so that would be a waste.

I believe my account runs out right before the event starts so I literally can't participate. Need to double check the exact date. If I am available, even if just for one day, I may organize the redside version myself.

People ignore it as it is. They already have a lot of low to no reward zone events that people ignore and they give badges, so what's one more?

No other zone event, however, requires 3-4 teams to complete (save the ship raid, and that was designed as an end-game raid). Not even Lusca, since you can take him/her/it down with 1 decent team.

The drop ships, however, need more. I think there were what, 40-50 folks that did it the first time on Test? And that was when you could affect the ships with slow powers. Since the devs made the ships invulnerable to -speed powers, would be even more difficult.

That's an even greater argument for a badge.

There were 40-50 people last year when Victory did its run. Plus, it's the one part of the game where Fly is the optimal travel power.

shards.

I was under the impression that either the Gravity Geysers or Boost Range + Teleport was better. Otherwise, yeah the Shadow Shard.

Does boost range work on teleport? This has pvp potential.

No, that's an argument against a badge, because of one very simple reason: as we have all seen, once folks get the badges on the characters they care about, they don't pay attention to the event again (see fires, raves, lusca, ghost ship, etc). You do not want to create a situation that requires a large amount of people, who, once they have completed it, are unlikely to run it again, effectively 'locking' the badge for newer folks who may have missed out on the previous runs.

It's one thing to be a newer person and ask for a team to come Lusca hunting. You're asking 6-10 other folks (ish) to come help. It's a completely different thing to ask for 40 folks to come help do something for a reward they already have (ship raids being different because the merits continue to have value and can be used on the hvas pets, etc).

Have it give two merits.

DC, as it is, NO ONE takes down the dropships anyways.

I thought that was common knowledge. Boost Range TP is one of the main reasons why TP is considered the fastest travel power. I've heard that the biggest problem with it is the potential for vastly overshooting your mark. Plus, only one AT has Boost Range and on only one powerset.

As far as pvp, I could see Boost Range + Team Teleport being a vicious offensive move but wouldn't you still have to deal with suppression eliminating all defensive use of the move?

I was thinking of evading more.

2 merits? You think you're going to attract 30-45 folks to destroy a drop ship for 2 merits? Hell, Lusca gives 2 merits, and about 90% of the time I go to/from the boat in Indy He/She/It is up there in that far NW corner.

(and before anybody goes back to the 'this is why it should be a badge' argument, see my previous post).

The point of even being able to take down a dropship is just so that you can say to yourself 'cool, i helped take down a dropship'. that's it. Some sort of 'cool' explosion goes along with it, and that's all.

I'm all for people taking down the dropships, I just feel that 2 merits isn't going to be much of an incentive (and if you crank it to say 20 per, then that could lead to farming since you see what, 2-4 dropships per raid?), and a badge can lead to 'locking out' of newer folks because of the large number of folks required to participate.

Locking out is a moot point as NO ONE does it now. At least with a badge there would be SOME incentive.

Yes, but what would be the incentive 2-3 months from implementation? We'd all have the badges on the characters we cared about, and would, I would guess, have less incentive to do a rather annoying task again?

And, again. Isn't SOME incentive better then zero at all?
