The Queen's Menagerie
So a while back I had Ross do a VS piece between my Brimstona and a friend's character. I guess Brimstona lost since the piece just had her back facing the viewer. :P I vowed to have Ross do Brimstona up proper some day. That day arrived!
I'm pretty happy with it. I like the colors, the flame and expression. I'm definitely inspired to get more pieces of her from different artists to get different perspectives on her, plus get a few of her demon minions thrown in for evil measure. He missed the chess symbol originally so I asked him to add it and if he could add it upside down. I'm sad that we can't do that in CoH. He did it tho and I love it! I don't have the original sized version yet but I'll upload it when I do for any who like to download these pieces.
EDIT - the high res version is up, woo!

Some may have noticed and thought, "There haven't been any official Goblin Queen pieces lately. What gives?" Well, I've thought the very same thing! Here is the first of three that are incoming. Hopefully the other two will be here by the end of the week.
This Goblin Queen piece came from an artist I randomly lucked upon, BleedingHeartWorks. She was running a very limited commission run based on a 3 month sub to DA. I jumped on it considering what that costs and what most pieces of this caliber cost. Although I admit, at first it was sort of a gamble as i wasn't sure what type of work she was putting out for these commissions. She has a wide range of material in her gallery but from the looks of some pieces I had to take the risk.
So.. it was *very* different. I'd never really had GQ be that.. um.. well.. in that pose. Nor without her normal lower attire, except for that bath scene but her legs were closed! At first when looking at the WIP I was taken aback by it just a bit. But it grew on me really quickly, like 30 seconds after I saw it and realized just how much detail and awesomeness was in the piece. Once it was colored I was even MORE pleased with it. The armor, boots, different gloves, etc. are downright hot and evil looking and I really do like the coloring as well.
Keep an eye on her and give her work when she's up for commissions again. Maja was a real treat to work with and has a great personality to go with the talent!

Wow today was artz day apparently. Gratz GQ you are definitely finding some cool new talent.
Also those are some wicked looking gauntlets and boots on GQ... quite the pose as well.
I sent some refs along to Fishcat, we'll see what he comes up with.

Yah the details on the gauntlets and boots are just wtfawesome.
Hopefully Fishcat will sketch some stuff up! I have no idea where he's at on his list of 50. He doesn't seem to have a public tally of it going on anywhere. :P

Apparently he hasn't reached it yet as I sent him 4 to choose from and his reply was Okay I'll do all of those.

Yeah Vladric was my favorite of that lot as well. I like how he included the vampire bat form.
He is a little hit or miss with the details but they are just warmup sketches.
I asked if he wanted a quick warmup sketch in return and he happily pointed me to his OC... a Steampunk/Anime toon.
Alas neither Anime nor Steampunk are strong suits of mine (though I would like to get better with SP at some point) but I did what I could
with it for 20-ish minutes and posted it in my quick sketch folder there (could not figure out how to put it in scraps, they really should make it drag and drop ).
Love all the new stuff you have added between this post and may last!
Always nice Pic's to look over in this thread. |

This is the second to last recent batch of Goblin Queen art that's coming in. I don't think introductions are needed for Redg404 other than I'm glad I finally got in on that action. He's great!
The color was a totally different shade of green that I've ever used or seen applied to Goblin Queen but I like it. I like the piece overall so much that I also like the color I should say. If I didn't like the overall piece I'd probably harp on the color. :P I like the details of the goblin scepter and the makeshift yet mobile goblin throne.

Another beautiful one!
I like the really soft colors. They have an otherworldly quality that compliments the characters.

Totally digging the colors and the art of the latest piece. Specially the colors... But then again, I always love seeing things done in an unusual or unique way.

This is the third of the incoming pieces I was talking about. But.. I lied. I have a fourth coming now. I had a St. Patrick's Day scene in my head that I had to get put to paper. Hopefully it'll be done by then!
YAY! I finally bit the bullet and tried an artist who could do fantastical/science fiction types in a realistic fashion. I was always concerned on how my characters would translate over into that style. I found the perfect guy for it and I'll be sending many of my characters his way as well as looking into other artists who practice realistic images.
As I said on my DA page, I really love the coloring, the smokey eyes, the hair, the makeup, etc. The choker and crown were a bit different and took a couple edits to get it to where I liked it but he was super quick and understanding with all of my feedback and addressed everything I brought up.
Kharnage is offering a special on Character Busts so if anyone is interested in his style, take Sam up on it while you can! He's looking for things that will challenge what he normally does and I think the lot of us can definitely challenge him with our characters.

I'm really enjoying seeing the queen done in so many styles.
Thanks, I am too. I may even try photo manipulation at some point. If I could find a model that I think looks somewhat like GQ. I'm always on the look out for different styles. I've found a few more types that I LOVE but need more cash flow before I experiment with them too much. One day.. one day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I don't think anyone is a stranger to Avionetca's work here. I've been watching her for a while now and waiting for the time to have her particular style grace my characters. I think this was the perfect time for it and I'll probably go back to her for most of my holiday scene needs. After the latest realistic portrait of Goblin Queen I also figured it would be cool to go to the other end of the spectrum for a very cute and cartoony version of GQ. Avionetca, of course, always delivers in this regard.
I had a *very* specific scene in my mind when I went to her. I knew her attention to detail was pretty impressive but I wasn't sure if that was all of her own doing or by following the vision of the commissioner or a combination of both. So when I sent her the details of the scene and she sent back the art, without asking for any clarification or the like, I was shocked. It came out much better than I thought it would. She got everything down perfect - the leprechaun getting mugged for his gold, Goblin Queen ripping apart a four leaf clover and the goblin dancing in joy at the falling clover leafs. I particularly loved the background, the rainbow and her take on Goblin Queen. Very cute!
She was a real treat to work with, I'm definitely going back!

I really stumbled across this guy, Fishcat101. Check him out, he has a lot of great pieces and is very talented. He is running a limited amount offer of free sketches for any character - OC, Marvel, DC, etc. and he's doing this basically to help himself out when it comes to warming up. All you need are some reference shots. I was surprised when he said he would do the entire list I gave him. I guess it's a good thing I didn't list all of my mains, much less my alts?
It was quick work, I listed them one evening and he had them the every next morning. The job was kinda rushed in some cases but hey, it was free and there were six characters! I think he did some cool stuff with most of the characters and maybe missed the mark on a couple of them but again.. it's free so it's all good. The one thing that wasn't so hot was he misspelled three of the six names so I had to just redo all of the names in a font of my choosing. A shame because I really liked the font he had originally. I just couldn't find it even when he gave me the name of it.
Another thing - it appears that if you give him fewer characters he does more involved sketches. Found that out after the fact. Hehe.
