AR Question...

Hey all, I wasn't sure where to ask this but I have been away from the game for a while and was looking for information on some of the blast sets (for my defender duo with Brute) and had a question about AR... Does Ignite cause fear like Burn did where the mobs run out instantly, or will they stand in the patch a while and maybe run out like the Burn does now?

It causes Fear. They run screaming from it. It also doesn't have the Upfront dmg added like they did to Burn (with reduced DoT). Ignite is still as awesome as ever but it still requires some type of immoble/knockdown/hold/caltrops for a blaster to put it to good use. I hope they dont change it. The "Area Denial" aspect of this power is amazing. Caltrops + Ignite can effectivly close off a doorway/pinch point and stop an entire Army of ambushers from coming through.

The dilemma is that you can't maximize the damage of ignite if the AI doesn't stay in the patch, but at the same time without the fear, it would lose its utility as it has been mentioned to block a door way.

Well since we are talking blasters it shuld be a easy matter to immob somthing as almost every blaster secondeary has an imomb power as its first manditory pick,

With that its a easy task to set a boss on fire and walk away, greanted its not as effective as if you had imobed a huge spawn in a tiny spot ond set them all on fire but it defintly provieds a good amount of alternative dmg type to a boss/eb/av fight.

AR main focus is cones so using ignight as a keep away power is actuly more helpfull in the long run as you can cover a large area with cone shaped death with only min +rech

There is but one truth. Time is limited. ndnw its over

The patron power pools added some AoE immobilizes. If mass-igniting is what you're looking for, that's an easy way to do it.

I'm sorry, I thought the discussion was heading towards keeping more than one baddie in ignite. Not frying entire 8-man groups.

The AOE is plenty big. Upping the radius would require drastic reduction in the damage of Ignite for it to remain even kind of balanced.

There is nothing wrong with Ignite, and I personally greatly enjoy having the ability to swap it's function as is situation appropriate, even if I do normally just torch things to an ashy pile.

Right. But you said:

...which was almost a bit misleading, in the sense that it sounded like you were implying that you could easily webenv an entire group and then burn them to the ground with one ignite. You did say..."mass-igniting". Sure, you could do "several" ignite patches, I'll agree with that.

(sigh)

I'm glad I'm able to contribute something helpful to conversations instead of wandering into random topics to nitpick terminology with random strangers. May I suggest the Gamefaqs forums? I think you'll fit in nicely there.

Back on topic ...

I enjoy the utility quite a bit as well. I remember once lighting myself on fire with it, just to make things move away. This was on a not-so-synergetic mix of primary and secondary, so I didn't have caltrops or stacking mezz to keep a boss off. Ignite did the trick though. There's lots of fun uses for this power.
