Which makes no sense to me...because you can end the show yourself...just stop watching.

To come and hate on a show that you apparently watch and then say you wish it would just end...is absurd.
Not really. I hate the movie The Craft with a passion. However, every time it came on TV I get sucked into watching the whole thing. I've probably watched that movie over 50 times. Why? Though the story sucks, but there are hot girls in it and it was well researched, there are many things about how magick works (in occult litterature) in it that they got right, and Fairuza Balk in it rocks (I love her "I can fly" scene). You can hate on something, but little things that pop up makes you keep watching, possibly giving you hope for better things. Its like alcohol, you know it makes you feel like crap, but you keep drinking it because of the good little feelings you get (sometimes) while drinking, so you do it for that knowing full well you will want someone to put you out the next morning.

Saying that, after 50 times of watching it, I knew I had to cut myself from The Craft, as it was making little sense to me why I watched it so many times, and there was no chance in hell anymore that it could get better. So I bought the Extended cut DvD. Now, everytime it comes on TV, I can switch the channel and movie on saying "eh, I have a better version on DvD".

Grab onto the flawed analogy all you want, I'll admit it's only half useful. But my reasons for wanting to watch the show are my own. Because the quality and status quo have become complacent doesn't mean I won't still hold it to the same standards as I did before. Like I said, it still produces a couple of gems a season, and I'd like to see it end well. In the meantime, if they decide to produce content that's insulting to the audience's intelligence, then yeah, I'll point it out.

You may see it as pointless to "hate" on a show that I could just stop watching, but it's no more pointless than defending it's quality with no other argument other than "well, the ratings are good." To me, it's pointless to watch a show if you can't hold it to any standards of quality.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

I agree. Ratings can be attributed to many things other than the shows quality.

I only pay attention to ratings for one thing and one thing only...high ratings means the show will, probably, be renewed.

Actually, you can want a show to end even when you love it. I loved Lost. I'll consider it the best show ever made. But to be the best show, it was right for it to come to an end. I wanted that end to be achieved because I knew the show needed it to stay as good as it was. Eventually, a show wear's out its welcome. Lives past its prime. Becomes a shell of its former self. When that happens, it's time to end.

Generalizations should be avoided. This is just from a posting point of view. Don't worry about calling someone out, because you need to be able to point to what you're talking about. It's not like you're specifically attacking that person. Ok, maybe sometimes you are, but it's ok. If they posted it on the internet for everyone to read, then they've opened themselves up to criticism. When I post an argument, I know there's a chance Durakken is going to come in and make some ridiculous argument against it using hyperbolic statements of what I said and creating straw man arguments. It doesn't stop me from posting though. Don't let it stop you either.

It's just better for your arguments when you avoid generalizations.

You make an extremely good point with your LOST reference.

However, Smallville has/had the potential to keep going.
In the movie, it took him 12 years to fully develop his powers. That's 12 years after the age of 18? if I remember correctly.

Well even the Bible didn't talk about Jesus much between the ages of 12 and 30.
Maybe Smallville should have taken the hint... j/k

Making parallels between the New Testament and SUPERMAN CANON?

Dammit, you KNOW better! Some WB exec gets a look at this, and suddenly they've got their next big neverending series- Nazareth -- probably with Kristin Kreuk as Mary Magdaline...

Ecause there are moments when the show is actually worth watching. The problem is, in order to get to those moments, a body has to suffer through all the crap first. More often than not the crap is REALLY frustrating, compared to the few shining moments the show has. Besides that, while i could lay hands on the animated series DVDs, right now THIS is the only current Superman show on TV. Despite my gripes with the show, i am a fan of the character and keep hoping that it's going to get better. Or that the thing will finally be canceled and a couple years later we'll get another Superman show that won't have the same flaws the others have had.

The problem with ignoring something entirely is that folks who make it assume there's no redeeming qualities and eventually junk the entire project. Of course the other problem here is that if they've got enough people watching, they assume there's nothing wrong with what they're doing, so they keep on doing it.

The wiki says 12 years, but i was under the impression that by the time he went to the fortress in the Donner movie, his powers were almost completely developed. But then im trying not to think of the superman as j.c. analogy.

This is one of the few shows I try to follow. So much potential but they just miss the mark. The formula/layout of most episodes is the same and somewhat predictable. They should give us a bit more per episode...it seems the significant event is always going to be next week and when they finally have to get the big event in...it isn't so big. Like the season finale from 9 to 10; the Kandorians are done now? Just like that they are out? I thought there might be more to it and to leave season 9 like that? The season 10 opener may have been a better season 9 finale with the coming of Darkseid hint.
