Unite in with joy or torches depending on how this movie turns out XD

With all comic adaptations I cling to one rule: "Hope for the best, plan for the worst."

It usually turns out that the planning was wise. I don't expect this to be any different.

If the star trek franchise can be reborn in fantastic fashion, I see no reason to jump to the conclusions with X-Men. The way i see it is the first 3 x-men movies had 3 A-LIST actors in it. They drove those movies. And those movies allowed some lesser known actors spark careers. When I watched Star Trek in the theater last year, I recognized a few actors but I didn't know who chris pine was. And the only reason I knew who Spock was played by is I watched Heroes.

I will reserve judgment until I watch it in theaters. But not every superhero movie needs a big actor lead part. Spiderman proved that.

I would rather they completely began over the series from the beginning without Fox's involvement. Whatever Mea Culpa from Fox put Singer back in charge, I do not forgive the way Hollywood pee'd all over Marvel mythology because Singer and Fox couldn't come to terms.

I think Spider-Man showed us primarily what happens when a director with a good sized cult following does content that has its own good sized cult following. I know people who went to see it only because their beloved Evil Dead director was involved.

I don't mind comic mythology being reinvented for movies. Admittedly, I've been such a big fan of Marvel comics (particularly X-Men) my whole memorable life, so I'm familiar with enough variations, reinventions, and different authors' styles that there's no shock to me when I see it happen again. There was no variation in the movies that didn't exist else where already. That isn't true of the Wolverine movie though.

The flip side is, oddly enough, I don't have such patience for DC movies, because I never have been such a big fan. I've heard most of the industry regards Superman as the most retconned and reinvented superhero with any following, yet I'm still not keen on a show or movie coming along and changing what I'm familiar with.

In retrospect/introspect, I guess I'm not being fair.

I'm a little suspicious of this movie because of the politics that have been around it. Since it was introduced with two other movies, IIRC, and it's the only one to survive licencing, availability, and willingness of the prospective casts and staff. Also, Singer was a pretty devout X-Men fan and consulted with some of the authors to make sure any changes were at least manageable. That may not be the case this time.

I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.

My biggest concerns at the moment are the fact it's being fast-tracked and, well... the casting. I'm concerned about fast-tracking because, unless they're going extremely-character driven and skimping out on the fighting... this movie is practically REQUIRED to be special effects-heavy. Fast-tracked special effects, especially when the effects are doled out to multiple different studios, make the consistency of the effects really suffer. Wolverine is a prime example of the effects being ALL over the place.

As to the casting... Prof X and Beast especially give me worries. I mean, I love James MacAvoy, but... really? I'm actually getting pretty similar vibes from The Last Airbender casting. Each name that popped up just made me more confused and concerned. Hopefully the other of the original five at least look the part (Nicholas Hoult is also good-ish, but... he's a freakin' BRITISH BEANPOLE).

<ahem>

Also, should this maybe be in the culture forum for all to see?

I'm sorry... had a flashback of seeing The Last Airbender in the theatre.

I believe this image is very comparable to The Last Airbender, "Oh man that could be awesome! *KER-FACEPLANT*...wtf was that?"

I'll always be a "Champion" at heart. My server away from home.

Everytime they said "ONG" I groaned "AAANG you MORONS!!"

As for my beloved X-men.. When Singer dropped X-3 for Stuporman.. I was crushed. X-3 was a total bomb IMHO.. I mean they made Jean look like a zombie.. that was NOT the Phoenix effect at all.. and hey, since Singer left, let's kill off ANY HOPE for that might have lingered by killing The Professor.
Now they're kicking dirt in our faces.. Kevin Bacon as Sebastion Shaw?? WTH does Havoc got to do with the beginnings? No Shadowking? Banshee was second generation.. they are so all over the place with the story line.. go ahead.. shoot that dead horse one more time for me.

As far as I'm concerned, the best super-hero movies tend to come from properties far less known than the X-Men, such as Kick-*** or Hancock, both of which were great.

I'm still leery about a new X-Men flick, but we'll have to see.

I'm looking forward to the CA / Thor / Avengers flicks however.

Did he say Hancock in the same sentence as Kick-***?
