Just saying hi!

Hello Justice server!

Just wanted to say hi really. I am very new to COH/COV Only been playing for 3 weeks and have enjoyed myself very much. Not new to gaming by any means and have played WOW for many years. Beta test lots of games and been into gaming since the Atari 2600 days.

I'm still learning of course but that is half the fun for me. Up to level 36 so far but have been a bit sidetracked by the AE building. What an awesome feature to be able to create your own missions. If I knew this game had that I'd bought it long ago.

Really the point of this thread is to get to know a few of you guys and maybe answer some of my newb questions.

So far I've just been soloing missions. Am I doing things the hard way here? Should I be looking for a group and if so where do you exactly look for a group? Someone told me to hang out in Atlas Park, lol. Guess that is sound advice. Also have joined the N P C and Justice2010 channels as suggested yet i'm not able to speak in the channel so it's a bit pointless.

Also what the heck do I do with all this influence? lol. I've been working the auction house and really outside of enhancements, temporary weapons, and costume pieces I'm not sure what is there to buy to improve my guy?

BTW hope there isn't another Ramification running around. Seems the name is unavailable on all the servers but this is an old game. This is just a name I've used off and on since the early 90's and thought it fitting for a Superhero type . Have been involved with mod work for several games over the years.

If anyone is also interested I'm working on some missions and actually finished my first one. It's called Sidekicks Forever under my chat handle @Jinkobi. Just a short mission that I thought came out fairly well. *hint* Don't let Bowstar die. Hope to have a Halloween Comedy out by late September/Early October so stay tuned.

This has been my self indulgent rant! Thanks for listening and nice to meet you all.

Welcome to the game and the boards! I don't play on Justice very much, but if you ever make your way over to Virtue (blueside) or Pinnacle (redside), feel free to look me up at @ZephyrWind.

Welcome aboard. I still have fond memories of the 2600.

On the subject of soloing versus teaming, I don't think there's a "right" answer. Let me put out some benefits of both, with the suggestion that you find a mix (0/100, 60/40, etc.) that you enjoy the most.

Soloing:

Pros - You can adventure at your own pace (need to take a 5-10 min break? no worries and no pressure), you can read the text dialogue at your own pace...come to think of it, all of the benefits end in (at your own pace).

Cons - You can't blame being defeated on another player, will likely not "move" through the content as fast, and must learn to be self-sufficient (carry wakies, etc). There's also one that's near and dear to my heart - it takes longer to learn the game soloing, because being exposed to other players on toons that differ from yours will teach you a lot about aspects of the game you'd overlook just playing your toon, because they are likely playing a toon that utilizes or mitigates those aspects. The example that pops into mind is if you were playing a scrapper and then teamed with a controller - you'd learn a lot more about mezz by seeing the effect enemy mezz had on your partner and seeing the effects they were doing to the enemy.

Things like that.

Teaming:

Pros - You can shift the blame for things quite easily, giving a beloved housepet a break. You get to see much more of the game, in terms of options available to players (think of all the possible primary/secondary choices available throughout the ATs - it was something easily in the hundreds, IIRC). You gain an XP bonus for being teamed. You're more likely to learn about new areas or features by team talk.

Cons - You move at the pace of the group and with any game it's a crapshoot as to the quality of the people and personalities that make up the group.

My advice for a new player is to team as often as possible, but remember to go off and solo too.

Ask someone in the N P C channel (who is on Justice) to help you out with this, as a good answer will be an involved one.

Again, welcome and feel free to look me up in game.

If you haven't joined a global channel, you're not really looking for team.

Welcome to the server!
I would also suggest joining Justice United to complement the JFA2010. each is run slightly differently and one crowd may appeal to you more than the other. Also note; JFA2010 is not strict about language until it becomes flaming whereas JU bills itself a family channel. This might make a difference so I figured I'd throw it out there.

Welcome to Justice!

The whole silence thing on channel join is just to keep spammers out, send a tell to a mod in the channel and they will unsilence you.

As for the team vs. solo thing, by all means find a team! Although there are 'get off my lawn' type elements within the game (glares at someone who's name starts with a letter between P and R) most people on Justice are very friendly...sometimes too friendly (make sure you lock your doors at night).

The primary benefit to teaming is to make friends who will give you their stuff when they ragequit, although the secondary benefit, useless and prurient gossip, cannot be ignored. If you don't like either of those things, then soloing might be best for you just for the challenge of trying to simultaneously click 2 items while alone.

And if you send a tell to enri, he will make you sign and fax over some weird 8 page nondisclosure or something before you can team with him, although I just sent him a picture of a 7 legged spider and he was OK with that.

Best way to find teams are through channels nowadays, although you can hang out in AP or other congregation zones to find other lost souls.

Welcome Rami. You must be a somewhat intelligent gamer to have picked the best server to play on, so props to you there.

As others have said just send a tell to a channel mod in JFA2010 and you'll get unsilenced. Really though you don't even need to talk in the chan to get a spot on a team that might be forming, just send a tell to the person advertising.

The only thing I can see that you're missing out on that you might find fun would be Task Forces (team only content). They're a good way to meet new players, plus you'll get a good handle on the whole team dynamics and how your toon interacts with the different AT's in the game. As a bonus you'll usually get to battle with a signature character at the culmination of the TF, some of which can be fun encounters. You can find TF's forming daily in JFA2010 usually at all times of the day, so just keep an eye on the channel.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, beware the catgurls.

Welcome to the game and the server.

I found that soloing worked best for me when I first started playing the game because I needed to figure out all the little details like what button to push and when to push it. Since you seem to be more of an MMO vet than I was, you may get a handle on it quicker than I did.

Here's a couple of links that may make your stay here more enjoyable or at least provide you with more information than you ever wanted to know about the game.

City of Data - is a compendium of what all the different powers in the game do. It's very detailed.

Paragonwiki - is a constantly evolving encyclopedia of the game. It is light years ahead of any fficial" information that you may find.

Mid's Hero Planner - is an aid to help you plan and outfit your character outside the game so that you can tweak it, make changes, and see the results without making any semi-permanent changes in the game. There is also Suckerpunch's online planner, which is similar and works with Macs.

Another great way to find teams is to build your own or offer your services. Typing "/search" in the in-game chat will bring up a box that will allow you to search for players by type, by zone, by level, by name, or all of the above. You can also see from the color coding whether a player is teamed, unteamed, the leader of a team, or in a mission.

I used to have a screenshot of Q in his underpants. I lost it in a hard drive crash.

And welcome to Justice, Rami! We're kinda known for threadjacking, so don't take it personally.

Its customary on this server (the only server worth a *) to bring pies, cakes, and large quantities of grilled meat as a means to bribe us and get us to accept you. I see none of them. Try again, please.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Really appreciate it! I'm learning but still having a blast. The AE has had me sidetracked but I finally finished my mission building goals for now

Which bring me to this. I finished my Halloween themed Mission now available at the AE building. It's called 'Halloween Weenies! The Superguys vs The Stinky Pumpkin'. You can also find it by my chathandle @Jinkobi.

The mission can be long or short due to the randomness of the generator. Spent well over 50 hours on it so hope everyone gets to enjoy it. You'll notice it is a satire on some well known super type guys. Bit of comedy and definetly should get you into the Halloween spirit.

Spent lots of time testing/proof reading but nobody is perfect. If you see some typos just let me know. Also again hitting on the randomness of the mechanics. If the mission goes wrong due to the generator causing mobs to spawn to close together than just abandon and retry. Did my best to prevent as much as possible.
