Insect Control

I would love to take this to level 50.

Bug Control
1) larvae Feet- standard ST immob, the hand out animation goes off, and a small pool of black insects forms around the mob's feet and up to the knees.

2) Bug Blanket- ST hold same animation, maybe the throwing animation, but the bugs cover the mob up to the neck, and the mob does the "spazzing on the ground" animation like the Ghouls.

3) Fire Ants- the two-armed grasp animation (like Twilight Grasp), with a pool of insects forming around a group's feet up to the knees for a Targetted AoE immob, with some DoT (Fire?) not just around each individual's feet like fire cages, but a pool of them surronding the group of mob's feet, up to the knees.

4) fireflies- Not sure about the right animation, but I'm picturing a lot like Smoke from fire Control, except clouds of insects over enemies heads. Kills the perception/tohit/accuracy of foes and possibly a bit of confusion, let's say 50% chance to confuse.

5) Beetles- Toggle power. pool of bugs swarms around your own feet and outward in a 10ft circle, slowing those in melee range and doing some DoT. (lethal)

6) Stink bugs- AoE sleep move. Incinerate animation where a cloud of bugs fly from your hands/arms and at the crowd, burst, and cause AoE sleep.

7) Scorpions- Location AoE attack, a group of scorpions run out from your feet and surround mobs in a patch causing Toxic DoT and Fear as well. (wouldn't you be scared?)

8) Spider webs- Arms up like summoning Oni, Spiders come down from top of the screen, and wrap all foes in a group in sticky AoE Hold Spider webs.

9) Swarm- Summon killer bees, like the vial of bees temp power but huge. Toxic Damage

Looking back on it I'd switch 7 and 8 actually.

Hmn...maybe change the scorpions to a ticking hold proc (oh god dont sting me, ohgoddontstingme...run!) and something like -res? Or possibly -def. I mean, who's going to bother blocking when they have a scorpion on 'em? And remove the fear if that means they'd run out of the patch. If not, can probably be left in.

The rest? I like. So long as the swarm are just as irritating and -recharge crippling as the DE ones

Insects are interesting. I am resisting the urge to ask for Squirrels too. It's a strong urge but one that my medication is keeping in check. For now.

I think it's a good idea, but perhaps make it less creature-specific and turn it into some kind of Infection or Disease Control/Domination? Maybe Plague Domination?

Not that it would be limited to Dominators, of course, just that I think the concept of disease is more generic than insects.

Subsequently, some kind of Giant Insect Mastermind Pet could be fun.

yah good call. I suppose with scorpion venom running through you, then you'd have little resistance eh?

and disease dom would be SICK! (no pun inten...nah it's intended.)

I guess since have the Fly Trap now, I guess we can have non-human skeletons for pets.

Conceptually a good idea but I would hate this since insects skeeve me out. I literally can't even read the description of the set.

Bingo! Insects really freak out some folks so a set like this will never see the light of day I'm afraid. It's an interesting concept but some folks wouldn't even play the game if this set existed.

Aside: Spiders and Scorpions are not Insects or Bugs, they're Arachnids.

really? I honestly didn't think that some would actually have the heebeejeebees that bad.
Just to be a brat, I'm scared of guns firing at me, being set on fire, aliens with swords, and scary demons. Can't see bugs being an issue.

Alternately could we have Swarming Vorpal Blink Bunnies!

Well, since you asked:

I like the spirit of the set, but I think you've designed it a bit too monotonously. Everything is pretty much just swarms of insects that do this or that. Now, that's not necessarily a BAD thing, especially if you're trying to go for something simpler and more marketable to the development team, but it just seems like you could do more with this. I mean, you have like three powers that consist of insects at your enemies' feet, for Pete's sake

I'm not really sure what I'd change, to be honest, but I think you might do well to introduce a few larger insects. Say, for the hold, you could send a large hornet out to sting your enemy and hold him like that. As well, with a set like this, you're probably going to want to go the Illusions route and add in at least one more summon. You could even make a complete Phantom Army clone with a summon of bombardier beetles who deal toxic damage which washes away in time, and who cannot be killed due to their tough shells and small-ish bodies.

Finally, while I like the Swarm summon, it leaves me a bit... Cold. I'd much rather see a more proper summon, something on the order of a fleshy Arachnobot Blaster. Just a human-sized eight-legged bug for which we already have the skeleton, which follows you around and claws at things.

*edit*
And I don't believe insect phobias really enter into it. Any set you design is going to have people "unable to play it" for a variety of reasons. Remember all the trouble Sonic went through, and that it still does? The game occasionally has disgusting things. It's what adds variety.

well to be honest, as you probably can tell, I was basing it off of the traditional Dom set. ST-immob, ST-hold, Toggle debuff, Location AoE slow/attack, AoE hold, etc. And that does make it look monotonous, you're right

LOL, I didn't even notice the excessive bug feet.

The bees T9 move I was just trying to think of something that could be used from something that already exists (vial of bees), simply cause it would be easy to create.

something more like illusion control where it the control comes from handling the aggro and still doing damage would be better probably

Like I said - a retextured Arachnobot which shoots toxins probably shouldn't be as big of a development investment, plus it would be more visually striking

On the flip side, I have nothing against a really large swarm following you around.

Yes that would be awesome, maybe it could spawn smaller spiders as well.

My sister is so terrified of ants that when the ant-scene came up in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull that she spent the entire scene tightly closing her eyes, cringing and twisting in her seat.

And that's her in her mid 20s, after 20+ years of building up a tolerance (bad incident with fire ants as a child)

I knew someone else who was so terrified of spiders that her husband replaced the spider deal of the drow in D&D with ants....and ran into my sister's problem...

said person had to leave the apartment for five to ten minutes to calm down after someone said "you know there's probably a spider in every room you ever walk into"

Granted those are pretty much full out phobias (though I think not diagnosed by any doctor)

for myself, I freak out imagining mosquitos in my room at night occasionally due to having had frequent problems with them getting in my apartment in Korea...though personally I like the idea of an insect control or insect mastermind set...kept in the world of fiction, I'm fine with it
