Secret ID Failure
Have you noticed that all the Praetors in Praetoria use their full names publicly? Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most members of the Freedom Phalanx have secret IDs? I figure that it took less than a day after Praetorians started to arive on Prime before the secret was out.
What kind of fallout do you there there should/will be from their real names suddenly becoming public knowledge? Will the Hellions try to torch Synapse's trailer, or the Council go after Manticore's finances? And speaking of Manticore, won't this make it much easier to tie him to Wyvern? |
Even still, it's not like any of the Phalanx have unique names. Off the top of my head, you have Cole (who I thought gave up on his secrete ID), Duncan, White, Sinclair, Keyes (Again, Does he have a Secrete ID if he stands in downtown Paragon with his helmet off for all the world to see?), and Berry. Those are common names last names. Now, granted, if you could prove that the Phalanx meets/are friends in situations where a Birthname is preferred, yeah, you could make the leap, but when they fight villains who hide out in caves with diamonds the size of motorbikes and demand a ransom for a millionaire's daughter in a city known for it's Super Powered crime fighters, I don't think you are dealing with people capable of making such a leap of intuition.

I'm pretty sure their full names are a matter of public record in Praetoria, but...
I'm going to have to admit you have a point about the villains on Prime Earth. They're usually pretty clueless, to the point of it being painful.

Not to mention they didn't exactly get to be the 'greatest heroes on earth' by doing telethons. I'm sure others have tried it as well, and I'm sure when they're once again able to chew solid food, they'll try it again.
Hell, Lord Recluse was Statesman's best friend till they were in their late 20's or 30's. Secret identities aren't so secret in the City of Heroes. Then again it is a 'city' full of heroes. Pick a fight with one, pick a fight with all of them.
These are the same people with think that Countess Crey is a public spirited philanthropist and that the Carnival of Shadows is a fun place to take your kids. Is the existence of Praetoria even public knowledge in the lore? Profound obtuseness is a prerequisite for living in a comic book universe.
I'm fairly sure it was mentioned... somewhere that the IDs of the Freedom Phalanx are all public (to give a sense of transparency and accountability). I can't remember where, though. Possibly in the books or comics.

Revealing your identity to the world is part of the requirement for joining the Phalanx. Statesman feels that this policy of being completely open and transparent about all things helps inspire confidence in the Phalanx and their motives.
Its simple. When they went to make their characters, they found their names taken...probably by some resistance character squatter jerkholes...
So they just used their names.

That's one of the things I like about STO, that you can use any name you want, as the identity is tied to your global.

This isn't a comic book where everyone has secret identities and can keep them by wearing their costume underneath a business suit, while wearing glasses.
This is what's called an "MMO." Logic doesn't apply.
PS. Pinny is actually my character's real name. Shadewing isn't, Grimwing isn't. Lilly Umbra is, Leslie Dreadwing is her first but not her last (though her last is close to her real last). Be sure to have your villains look them up, because all of the above don't have family you can ransom in order to draw them out. You won't catch any of my characters off guard in order to capture them, and they don't have any weaknesses to some kinda jewel you can find randomly lying around their homes.
Characters!:
Pinny - Scrapper
Shadewing - Defender
@Pinny
I could have sworn that Manticore, at least, had a secret ID.
I stand corrected.
