Isn't this against all those new forum rules, even if it was in the "right" place?

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

ditto, also hate the character design, and the voice acting, and the idiotic characterization of luffy and..pretty much everything about it.

with a burning passion that would incinerate the very internet in its wake were i to go into detail. prior to seeing one piece, i assumed that dbz was the worst anime ever made, i was humbled. as a consolation, they both are better than betterman at least.

calm down buddy, besides we have a anime thread already ;p even though it's called Naruto, Again

though I disagree with rian ;p One Piece is probably the best adventure series done by a writer who can effectively handle a huge cast of characters.

Huh.

Is the OP a refugee from the 80s?

He appears to have gotten his animated GIF avatar and flaming signature image from an amateur 80's era web page.

Black background even!

Hint: There's a lot of anime geeks here that consider anything DBZ or One Piece or the like to be garbage, fit only for young children. They're Serious People.

Go watch Grave of the Fireflies.

The execution of the animation, acting, etc. is what I severely dislike about OP. Given I've heard decent things about the storyline, the horrid way it was executed only irritates me that much more. It's the animation version of nails on the chalkboard to me. (The flip side, nice animation with a crap storyline, I can just happily ignore.)

I have exactly one problem with DBZ. That's wasting five episodes in a row floating, glowing and screaming before launching an attack. Maybe not my favourite series, but if they'd speed up the "I'm getting SUPERGLOWYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHH!" parts I'd have sat through it. (The same problem with Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books. 1000 pages and someone's just made it to the other side of the hallway.... fortunately the new fill-in author has picked up the pace, closer to the earlier books.)

That's why Dragonball Kai is awesome :3

One Piece is the best-written of all the currently active long-running anime series. Bleach is bogged down by filler and a plot that gets worse every second (did anyone even see Aizen's new form?!), while Naruto is bogged down by filler and a plot that gets worse every second ("Whoops, sorry for killing everyone, lemme pop a group rez.").

One Piece actually improves with every new arc. Alabasta dragged on quite a bit, and Skypeia had some problems, but Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, and especially Impel Down (and the ongoing Marineford arc) are absolutely amazing. Not only is the writing impeccable, the art and voice acting are perfect for the over-the-top storybook-meets-TTGL antics that are the show's mainstay. Also, One Piece is known for having the least drawn-out fights in anime, with the fewest whole-episode monologues during said fights, and basically Oda-sensei knows how to cut to the ****in' chase, something the other guys could take notes on.

I hate when people cannot take the time to spell out the word you.

besides, i was just having some fun, no need for the rage. I wonder if i'm one of ninja's serious people, between bobob, flcl, excel saga/puni puni puemi, elf princess rane and dragon half being among my favorites, it seems unlikely.

It's called "expressing an opinion".

Since the opinion is directly related to the thread subject in question, it is appropriate for this thread.

If someone was expressing a dislike for, say, a particular flavor of ice cream, then yes, it would be off-topic.

I don't like fruity ice creams.
I do however enjoy the One Piece anime.

I just found it amusing.

The 80s were full of great things, but website design trends of the time were not one of them.

Black backgrounds on EVERYTHING, animated GIFs all over the place, blinky letters, etc.

And of course it's not me in my avatar. I'm a marmoset. The warden at the Bronx Zoo sometimes leaves his computer on at night.

This, by the way, was an off-topic post.

5/5 for that

Then the question is whether or not One Piece had more manga volumes to start with than DB, Bleach, Naruto or any other Shonen Jump series. Filler is injected usually because the next story arc in the manga isn't finished yet. It's usually that simple.

It's the longest of the three current long-runners, at 59 volumes (Naruto is at 52, Bleach at 46), and the anime has been on the air since 1999 (in Japan). Following its tenth anniversary, it's been broadcast in HD (you can tell even without an HD monitor because it's in HDTV-format widescreen on the official site). It has the least filler, as well (it's had one or two more filler arcs than Bleach, but One Piece's filler arcs last less than ten episodes, generally). Two things cause this amazing phenomenon:

-Eiichiro Oda has tons of creative control, so he typically adds lots of detail that he can't fit into the manga. stretching out the anime without sacrificing quality content.

-Eiichiro Oda can also turn stories that were previously relegated to short cover stories into full-fledged episodes, such as the Whereabouts of the Comrades subplot (long story, but suffice it to say they were awesome episodes).

And one more thing, is that most of One Piece's filler is pretty okay (the first filler arc was absolutely terrible, but they were new at it, but that Alternate Universe two-part filler was totally Epic Win).

It's obvious Bill has no taste

Does it take a true artist to understand the intended design direction and aesthetic flavor to see the masterpiece that it is? Or were people just burned by the dub version and hold a grudge?

As a show with an inclination toward kids as well as sporting a distinct look that can get away with gruesome cartoon violence that won't traumatize young minds, I'd say it's perfect the way it is. One piece is and probably will forever be my favorite anime series of all time.
