Flickering Graphics

Also getting flickering, seems to just be shadows a UI for me. Only when in Praetoria, Paragon and the Isles don't get it and neither do mission maps (although, they don't have shadows).

Win 7 64bit
Radeon HD 5850

I think you'll see Win7 users reporting the problem more due to it seeming to be something to do with Ultra mode, or dynamic shadows or something, so al the people who can turn those options on usually upgrade obsessively.

Nope. However, by the same token, how many people have /bugged it? I'm sure they're quite busy at the moment, and are always a few builds ahead.

Nope. The Devs have not commented on it at all. This is a pretty widespread problem affecting a lot of players, myself included. At this point I wonder why I'm bothering to pay a monthly subscription fee for a game that offers new zones that look awful due to a glitch the Devs cannot even be bothered to address publicly.

In Windows 7....

If you want to switch to other programs while running CoH you're best off running in windowed mode or disabling Aero. That should solve that issue as it did for me when I switched to windowed with W7 and a GTX 465.

Now, the black frames(flickering) can be greatly lessened and/or solved by turning off Vsync.

It solved the black frame issue I had anyway with only 2x FSAA and occlusion completely off.

MaximumPC stated, in one of the recent issues, that occlusions and FSAA do nto play well together and shadows doesn't play very well with occlusion either because they both try to do the same thing different ways that end up conflicting.

Turning off either FSAA or occlusion has helped some people already.

Try those solutions. If they don't work then I'm out of ideas right now.

Edit:
I just wish there was a solution for the insane 3k+ ping lag spikes for 30 seconds or so at completely random times. It isn't anything on my end because I have done all I can and made sure I'm the only user at times to make sure it wasn't that issue.

It tends to happen only when the server is empty in the late hours or really early hours. I even have much better stability when the server is full.

I doubt this is a hardware failure issue, both I and a friend of mine are having this problem as well, exactly like this. After roughly 2 hours, graphics start to go wonky (an /unloadgfx fixes it temporarily). It started happening RIGHT after GR released, too. I don't believe it's just a coincidence.

Here's my take:

Win7 32bit/GTX 460

The game will eventually sieze without letting me send a crash report. Flickering in either the AO or the dynamic shadows is a precursor to the crashing. Nothing gets rid of the crashing but the less I have turned on/up the less time I have between crashes.

Things that speed up the time-till-crash
1. Being in Praetoria
2. Having AO on
3. Having dynamic shadows on

When I was running my Pratorian with everything turned up, I would get about 10 mins before a crash. In Paragon with no Dynamic shadows and no AO It only happens every couple of hours or so.

That's so weird. While I've had the flickering (only in Praetoria, mostly Nova Praetoria, and mostly when running through at fairly decent speed (Ninja Run). It never causes me any sort of slow down or crash. I have a Phenom II x4 965 on an MSI NVidia 750a SLI base (specifically the NF750-G55). 8GB of RAM, and an EVGA Superclocked GTX 470 with 1.280GB of RAM, all running Windows 7 64-bit (Pro). Are you running the latest drivers? I assume you are.

What are the specs of the rest of your rig, perhaps there's something else leading to a bit more of the instability.

Spoke too soon, the flickering is still happening. It's lessened a bit I think though.

Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!

Changing mouse pointer to Compatibility Mode and then restarting COH fixed this on my wife's computer.

ATI Radeon HD 5870
Latest drivers, check every two weeks.

I haven't seen it for a while but I tend to run windowed with mutliple accounts/clients. It usually happens on only one window/client at a time. Never bothered testing it as I usually just finish up and restart the client.

It happened before GR, since I had a picture from earlier this year of it occurring. It's quite annoying when you can barely see walls, see through the torso of an enemy, or have to do an escort.
Try typing "/reloadgfx" in-game. Use it as many times in a row as necessary, I find if it doesn't work within about 5 uses it's easier to restart the client.

One side uses mind police and will "disappear" you and the other uses poison gas and bombs on civilians. Hamidon? He'll just have a tree eat you. Much simpler. If we're all going to be oppressed and/or killed by someone, it might as well be the walking trees. At least they don't speak in annoying code or doublespeak. They just devour you.
