3D Sound disabled, worked in Beta

Also just to add the Creative Console Launcher is still in its beta from the Creative people.

For those of you familiar with the X-Fi cound cards and their software, the Creative Console Launcher had 3 modes in which you could switch to. Entertainment, Audo Creation (which gave you tons of tweak buttons), and gaming mode.

On my XP system I used to keep in gaming mode all the time and switch to entertainment for music, movies, and what-not.

Now with my Win7 64 bit X-Fi card I just get the Entertainment mode in the Creative Console Launcher and that is all. I would guess that is what Alchemy is suppose to replace. Alchemy actually to me seems to do nothing.

Lets hope this gets fixed. COH was one of my favorites for its sound.

I was caught between computers thinking I just had to upgrade my sound. It is ok though because I am used to X-Fi over what my new pc has, 7.1 Realtek on-board sound. I would have eventually upgraded anyway.

I get a sort of 3d sound when I run COH in Windows XP service pack 3 or 2, but it is not the sound I am used to out of my other card directionally. It is more of a headphone 3d sound.

And with doing this two things happen. I am on an Alienware computer and the game supports AlienFx, that is the colors change on the keyboard, mouse, and computer when you are a hero (white), praetorian, (light blue), and villian (red). The colors do not change and freeze randomly while in XP service pack 3 or 2. AND my game always crashes when I go to exit, which I see has happened to others as I have read above.

It needs a real fix and a message that pops up for us when it does get fixed.

Its ironic just how many hard-core gamers have adopted Win 7 64-bit as their gaming OS and how many games currently do not run on it correctly the way they should.

It isn't surprising really. Since you can't get support for XP anymore. And Vista blows so Win7 is the only Option if your going windows. For me it sucked cause I had to format once then I realize bleep my old copy of XP won't authenticate anymore. So I had to buy win7 because of a bleepin virus, and a bunch of hard ware cause window7 doesn't like what i had. not because it was too low no it just won't work, grr.

I also lose 3D sound in Windows 7 (64-bit), unless I set the program EXE to "Compatibility Mode, Windows XP SP3".

What little performance hit I get in Compatibility Mode is totally worth having 5.1 surround sound!

Still, I wish this would get fixed.

I'm pretty pissed off about this problem as well. I have an old creative sound blaster card that I dug up a few weeks ago when i returned and was pretty pleased with the 3d sound, although as someone else mentioned there can be a sharp fall off if i look just the tiniest bit away from the sound I wont hear it. I would still like the option for 3d sound and CMSS and such.. It blows that I can't have 3d directional sound anymore even if it was buggy.. it's dumb to take it out. I can't imagine how pissed off I would feel if i got one of those very high end creative x-fi cards. I'm on Windows 7 of course. FIX THE 3D SOUND!!

Good to know I'm not crazy... my laptop is affected too. (Using Realtek EAX Advanced HD 4.0) I'm not much of an Audiophile, but I did notice.

Thanks for pointing out Open AL (Alchemy) or whatever it's called. I snagged that, it has fixed the issue even though it still shows N/a in-game, I even applied the settings, and I still have 3d sounds for me.

I must also say that Kinetic Melee sounds completely different with 3d sounds working. Much much better overall, at least personally.

Damage Proc Mini-FAQ

Just noticed Damage Proc Mini-FAQ wasn't working with new forums, it's been updated.

Any updates to when/if 3D Sound may/perhaps/will be re-enabled?

Not too fond of setting the executable to run in XP-SP3 compatibility mode.
Especially after inserting a new X-FI Titanium HD into a Win7 64 box

Hello, if you'd like to reopen the discussion about 3D sound, please start a new thread on it as this thread's a bit old. Thanks!
