CoH Going Rogue art contest
Welcome back Darque.
did they ever post the winners ?
Congratulations to ChristopherRobin, Wassy and Battlewraith, as well as all the winners!!! I just single them out due to their being active members of this little forum whose names/entries I recognized! If any 606'ers also won and slipped by me, big congrats to you as well!!
As I recall, someone cast aspersions on Zam following their own rules... And I must say that the quality of the winners does lead me to suspect this wasn't an entirely random choosing
What it seems like is that they chose one winner at random, then the rest of the people they showcased were just pictures that they liked. Those showcased artists didn't actually get anything extra, they just got props from the contest runners. So this was still likely run per the rules they set.

The Guide to BURN
I thought the fine print I kind of glanced at mentioned prizes awarded by drawing and winners randomly selected. *shrug* Dont really care though... Even if just the grand prize winner was random they got a really nice piece of art at random..
However it was done, congratulations to our local winners (and I think they do get a premium subscription to whatever Zam is, or did I read that wrong as well?)

Congratulations to the local winners indeed! I didn't notice the grand prize stuff was up and saw the dailies were listed by real first name so I didn't know who got what.
Yeah, Zam.com is horrible at contests. I basically had to prod them along for a week, they ignored their own deadlines, posted all the winners late, etc. I've been active there for ten years now so I feel entitled to tell them when they're acting like suck
There was some nice stuff posted by the locals. Good job all!

At least now I know I have an arch enemy though and I can begin my plan for hunting them down and destroying them! Mwuahahahahahahaa!!!
SURPRISE:
ANOTHER (as always) contest from COH that requires you to have the ability to draw. Same entries and people.
Don't get me wrong, the fault of these one sided "contests" are not the fault of the artists, just the people that arrange the "contests". Good luck to all those that enter.
Don't get all crazy me for suggesting this but it is time for alternative contest submission standards. My dream letter to those that create these contests:
Dear City of Heroes Devs/Marketing,
I am writing to you regarding your many contests that you have provided over the years.
I feel that the contests promoted over the years on City of Heroes have been one sided and biased towards people with the ability to draw. Many of us do not have artistic talents and are unable to take part in any contest. these same people have been loyal and devout players of City of Heroes, some of which have played for over 6 years, and feel that they are being discriminated against with the criteria that seems to follow every contest ever produced, ie: art submissions.
Those of us without artistic talents ask that you produce contests that would include us and give the "other loyal followers" of your great game the chance to take part in contest activities. Some examples would include;
I feel that these are reasonable alternatives to the "artist only" contests that have become the standard.
Thank you for your time.

Actually, 7/8 prizes (six mice & a laptop) were awarded randomly as long as you at least cranked out a crude MS Paint image. Only the 8th (grand prize) looks like it was determined by artistic merit.
Whether or not the 8th should have been is another question. I'm pretty sure the rules said all the prizes would be determined randomly but I also wondered why NCSoft would want to make you a plaque for randomly selected "Super Tractor-Tread Frog-Face Girl" when said 'character' obviously doesn't exist in City of Heroes and was just submitted to win a prize. I think it was another case of whoever wrote the rules not having a clue and then the rules not really being followed because they conflicted with what the client wanted.

I agree (re: person writing rules not knowing game). Perhaps NCSoft marketing should take more care and set some standards for their contest both internal and external.

The biggest contest I can remember recently was co-sponsored by Coh/AMD's Ruby and it was screenshot based... of course it was also abysmally run and several of the chosen finalists were in violation of the contest rules set forth
...but hey anyone could participate and it was not limited to artists at least.
Well I far prefer this than ones that require you to be glued to Twitter or facebook or even the boards so you can be the quickest to catch and enter the code... My feeling on those is I'm getting punished for playing the game instead of watching some social networking site... Shout them in a broadcast, then at least players would have a chance!
But the point is everyone will have different tastes and there is no contest that will make everyone happy...
thanks for posting the contest Just re-upped our subscriptions and have been working on Cities art again. Gives me something to do with it
