Not sure how we missed this news coming out of Comic-Con until now, but for Quantum Leap fans, it might have been the BIGGEST news to come out of Comic-Con. Quantum Leap will be back. And it will be back on the big screen.

At the "A Leap of Faith—A Quantum Leap Retrospective" panel, Scott Bakula shared the big news with the 600 fans who attended:

The good news is that Don [Quantum Leap creator Donald P. Bellisario] is working on the film script and has a big time Hollywood producer who wants to do it ... It's about time. But what I always thought would happen, happened ... [that he's now too old for the role]. But Dean [Stockwell, who played Al] and I will have a part in it somehow.

Don did say that as he was writing, he told me he was having trouble, 'getting you and Dean out of my head.' But I know he will do it.

So to recap—Big-screen Quantum Leap, yes; Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett, no; Scott Bakula as ... something, yes.

We'll take it. How about you?

No offense to Mr. Bakula but do you have any idea how many TIMES we've heard this same line before? Sorry but until I see a trailer I'm not buying it. Also on the big screen and no Bakula or Stockwell as Sam and Al? What the hell is the point then in the project? Without some resolution to the original series then all it is is just a reboot.

Funny. LoT just kept on posting threads while the world ended.

There is nothing in that interview/soundbite to say that Sam and Al will not be in any planned movie, just that Bakula is too old to play him as a main guy.

A cameo or supporting for Sam and Al is still possible, I would think. And it would serve the studio well if they could do it as a "passing the torch" to improve longterm viability.

I love QL. And Belassario does make good TV in general, so I'd love to see this get off the ground. Even more, I'd like to see them give a new series a try, as long as it was a sequel and not a reboot.

I would love it if they worked it so "they" continued with the QL program even after Sam was unable to get home and at some point the new characters cross paths with Sam and Al. Just as they realize that they are each part of the QL then *flash* - onto the next Leap... Boom cameo done...

I'm still waiting for the promised Pretender movie.

Off topic, I know...

Wow, such a timely decision to go ahead with a movie, too! Way to strike while the iron's hot!

On a similar note I've been waiting quite a while for the American Gothic movie.

Hey.... I remember that.

Huh.

How about a wrap-up to John Doe?

Or Earth-2?

Oh believe me. You REALLY don't want to know the whole 'ending' to John Doe. Right after the series was canceled the creator was interviewed by TVGuide and he explained how the series would have ended. Apparently the secret organization that was hunting him throughout the series was doing so because of what happened to him. They are a society that learned long ago that certain people that are struck by lightning have a mechanism short circuited in their brains which allows them to tap into the genetic memory of the entire human race and therefore it grants them super intelligence and the ability to recall anything and everything ever experienced by man up until that point. This society identified those people and then captured them and tried to harness their abilities. They captured him and then branded him as being one of the specials ones that have this ability but the woman that appeared in colour to him broke him out of their installation and then she went on the run. So he was going to spend the rest of the series trying to bring the group down and also find the woman who risked everything to make sure he escaped.

I read an interview where the creator said something similar, except that he died and glimpsed God and that's what gave him the knowledge and the mark on him was just incidental and didn't mean anything.

Which one? There were two made for TV movies, though the last one left an opening for more. I was kind of iffy on where the movies went, so I'm not sure I'd want them to keep going, personally.

Kind of the same thing for Quantum Leap. The show finished a long while ago, and if it's not going to have the same characters (or different actors in their roles), I don't want it or need it.
