Those were the best eps of the old series if you didn't like them stop watching now. The series of stories on the ark spacestation were my favourite stories ever but maybe because I had a thing for Sarah.
City of Death I think one of the best Doctor Who stoires ever. Douglas Adams help write it. He was the show runner for the latter part of the 4th Doctor. It really shows..
Curse of Fenric is good story too.
Talons of Weing Chang is quite solid too..
If you can get past the bad specail effets alot of the stories are very good.
"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.
Some time back-- perhaps around David Tennant's second series-- I wanted to show my wife some of the original show. We put on The Five Doctors because I thought it would be neat to let her see the various incarnations together. It was a snooze-fest.
Don't get me wrong-- I loved the original-- but compared to the new series, it seems fairly dull at times. I was surprised at how much of the show was "let's stand here and just talk for a bit. Then we'll go over there and just talk for a bit. Then we'll discuss the dire situation we're in. Then... we'll go over there and talk." It was really slow.
after that, we went back to the very first episode and William Hartnell was still awesome. My wife really liked that first story. So really, it's hit-or-miss, depending on which episode you get.
Overall, I remember the original being great. But sometimes, nostalgia colours one's view of things.

Just know that many of the really old episodes that people thought were the *best* are now lost. There was a mistake of some kind at the BBC and a bunch of the original episodes were destroyed in the 70's, if I remember correctly. Audio exists for all of them, but video is gone. Because of that there are a lot of fan-based 'recreations' where they used slideshows of on-set pictures and bits and pieces of recovered video.
Interesting to note, Doctor Who was one of the first shows filmed entirely on videotape. No actual film involved. Serveral of the lost episodes were transfered to film to distribute to international stations, and finding one of these film canisters in an attic somewhere is one of the dreams of every fan.

I like almost all of the 4th Doctor serials. Talons was very good as was the Key to Time series and anything with Romana II and when Douglas Adams with the script editor for the show such as The City of Death.
Not a big fan of the 5th and 6th Doctors, 5th better than 6th. Tegan was cute, Nyssa was underaged princess and Adric was the Wesley. Peri was an "American" companion and is best known for her lungs, wink, wink.
I liked the 7th Doctor and his companion Ace. Ace is one of my favorite companions and it's not because I have pictures with her. I prefer action companions.
As long as you get over the fact the show was done on a shoestring budget that was getting smaller as the Doctor's number went up, and not expect flashy special effects, it's fine.
Oh and also the original format was either 4 or 6 episodes per story so they had these little clifthangers every 20 minutes or so which breaks up the flow and are very anticlimactic when they are edited together into a single contiguous episode.

Tempus unum hominem manet
I rather liked Inferno with the 3rd Doctor. Revenge of the Cybermen and Genesis of the Daleks with the 4th. I enjoyed quite a few of them.
Yes, the effects were cheap, and usually dated even considering when the show originally aired. But a lot of the episodes have great writing that transcends the effects. George Lucas could really learn something by watching the old Doctor Who.

So since I got Netflix I've been able to watch a number of the older eps...
The Aztecs
The Tomb of the Cybermen
The Wheel in Space
The Mind Robber
Spearhead from Space
The Three Doctors
Carnival of Monsters
The Green Death
The Ark in Space
Pyramids of Mars
The Robots of Death
so far... but that's like half the list... and for the most part they're meh and not very interesting to me...
Is this because of these just being the bad eps or are these the better eps and I just don't like them...btw I do like the first Dalek ep series.
Here's the rest of the eps I have left to watch
The Talons of Weng-Chiang
