I dont know if they can get back to the fun feeling of the first one, then im all for it. Perhaps ditching Bloom and Knightly might let them do that.

With Jack and Barbossa back for this and minus the others. I think it will run a great movie, hopefully rekindling the humor that was in the first.

"minus the others" as in top billing, yes. I liked a lot of the pirate crewmembers and would like to see them back. Cotton and his parrot were always good for a laugh.

I have to disagree with this. One of the failings of the latter two Pirates films, in my eyes, was that they bought into Jack's hype. They were too much about how wacky, interesting, and "legendary" he is, and didn't keep you guessing nearly enough about his motives or sanity. The multi-Jack scenes in At World's Ends were among the worst scenes in the movie, though nothing beats giant woman dissolving into crabs.

Jack, like all things, is best in moderation. To keep him from getting stale. Which is exactly why I'm looking forward to this next installment of the franchise; I believe there's been enough time off for the writers and cast to create something more interesting, and for the public to -want- another Pirates film.

I disagree. My problem with the later two movies was that they simply didnt stick with the forumla that made the first one fun. I look at PotC alot like i look at say the Indiana Jones films. Though they deal with magic and mystic ideas, the central theme was that all these characters live in a real world with similar sensabilities to our own. So its ok to have one or two aspecs of the story be magical, like in the first one the zombie cursed by the gold. But the fun and humor of the movie came from those fantasy things existing in a real world. By the time the second one came around it was all like huge sea monsters and an octopus man that no one gives a second thought to, and fish people and huge storms and whirlpools were just the normal everyday realities that the characters faced. And it IMO wasnt nearly as fun.

And in doing that they moved away from many of the things that made the first film fun. Example when Jack holds elizabeth hostage after rescuing her from drowning in the first film. His escape really surprises even him in his balancing act and his fight with orlandos character. By the second one it was no big deal to be running through the forest on a water wheel, by the third it was no big whoop to be swinging around the rigging on a ship on the edge of a whirlpool of death in a rain storm.

Its that idea of making everything bigger and better to me that ruins so much. Like taking Indiana Jones from getting thrown under trucks and such that can be done live with stunt men, to putting him into a rollercoaster special effects ride on coal mine cars. It just didnt FEEL like it should. Or atleast that is my Opinions.

First, that teaser almost seems like the movie Disney would run in front of a new Pirates attraction.

My dislike with the 2nd and 3rd movies is that they "broke" the first movie. End of the first movie Jack escapes and gets the Black Pearl back, Will gets Elizabeth, Norrington gets taken down a notch and Barbossa is killed. Nice classic Disney ending. And it was a nice simple classic story full of Campbell classic architypes.

Then they through all of that out the window with a convoluted plot driven by complex cross purposed motivations of the main characters and ends with our happy couple from the first movie now living a less than ideal existence, Barbossa having the Black Pearl once again and Jack back alone in his dingy.
