Lame 72 month vet question: Vengeance

I was slotting up vengeance on my Forcefield/Sonic, and I was startled to see recharge was NOT an available enhancement. Is it possible, such as on Night Widow's mind link, to slot Def/Rech set enhancements and benefit the recharge rate of vengeance or is recharge rate totally unenhanceable like mastermind pets?

I'm not sure, but there are other powers where a secondary effect enhancement is not slottable, but it benefits from IO's. At least that used to be true about choking cloud and holds. Not sure if it's still that way.

Can you copy to test, slot the IO and see what the hover-over says?

It should benefit from Def/Rech IOs, or the plain Rech from Adjusted Targeting. At least this is how it worked last time I had it.

I believe they benefit from Def/Rech enhancements. At least, I haven't heard anything otherwise.

Yep. Works just fine. My perma hasten EMP/Dark has 2 membranes in it. It's up again before the previous casting expires.

Yep yep. The only alternative is making it ignore all recharge boosts, ala Force Of Will.

Err, they already changed it so that teleporting a teammate breaks targeting on them, so it's no longer possible to stack Vengeance in that fashion. Pretty sure Veng is WAI now.

Also, yes: any IO/Hami/other special enhancement that has a recharge component will help decrease the recharge time of Vengeance. Current favorite slotting (ignoring set bonuses) is 3 Membrances for max def/tohit/rech. Basically, yeah, consider Vengeance a more powerful version of Mind Link that requires a dead teammate to use.

Err, you guys sure about IOs enhancing it? I know Hamidons do, but those have been a recognized exploit for years. Saying you've got Membrane Exposure slotted into it doesn't answer the question that IOs with recharge do in fact enhance Vengeance's recharge.

To Psylenz: Unless someone verifies the IO issue, I'm going to put my money on them NOT buffing Vengeance's recharge. Don't rely on any particular slotting until you can find out one way or the other.

Any enhancement that can be slotted in a power will affect all the aspects of that power they can. Since Vengeance is not flagged as "Unaffected by recharge changes" any enhancement that is slottable and affects recharge will change its recharge. Including any piece from a Defense, Heal or tohit buff set.

I think I misinterpreted something I read. I'm now of the belief that you can enhance Vengeance's recharge with any IO that you can manage to slot into it.

The following is just me thinking out loud. Don't mind me...

Consider, oh, Centriole Exposure, a Hamidon Enhancement which boosts both Damage and Range. Hami-Os can be slotted into any power that accepts single-aspect Enhancements of any aspect boosted by the Hami-O itself. This means that Centriole can be slotted into any power that accepts Range Enhancements, such as, say, Plasma Shield from Thermal Radiation (ally +Resist). Since damage and damage resistance are the same attribute internally (just with a different response/behavior), Centriole Exposure will actually boost the Damage Resistance aspect of Thermal Shield by 33%.

(I originally used Forge in my example, since the damage buff from the power could be enhanced the same way, except that power's +Damage is not affected by buffs)

When Castle mentioned this exploit would not be a problem with the Invention system, I assumed he meant that they corrected the multi-aspect mismatch bug. But now that I think about it, the exploit may apply just the same, except there aren't (m)any opportunities to use it. Invention set categories are hand-picked by the devs for powers that cannot abuse them. For instance, the only powers Damage/Range IOs can slot into are powers that accept both Damage and Range Enhancements. This avoids the exploit not by correcting it, but by preventing it.

That said, any IO that can slot into Vengeance and boosts Recharge should indeed modify the power's recharge.
