Best Soloing Scrapper
Electric Melee/Shield Defense/Blaze Mastery Scrapper has a lot of AOEs. I don't think it's the best soloist and it gets many of the AOEs late in the build though.

If you like the 'kaboom' try this on for size.
It's nicely defensive, but not ridiculously so. Thunderstrike is very fun. Lightning Rod is even better. Air Superiority will let you perma-juggle things that are too tough for your defenses to handle on their own. Lightning field adds big-time damage over time. Set energize as your click-on power and forget about it.
It's a nice, solid build.

A Fire/Shield/Blaze would have less AoE than Electric/Shield/Blaze, but still a large amount. In an old farming thread, the Electric/Shield Scrappers didn't farm any faster than the Fire/Shield Scrappers, though there were very few responses there, so it could be down to individual similarities and differences in builds. The advantage of Fire is that it does better single target DPS, which is sometimes useful.
Shield can be a little late to bloom, though, and has a reputation as being a bit squishy without costly IOs. I don't personally find it squishy, though.
A general recommendation for first Scrapper would be Katana/Willpower - easy to build, easy to play, easy to level, easy to make uber in the end game if you choose to. Main problem there is that it's not really an AoE machine. It is at best vaguely passable. So it's probably not the right choice for you.

Elec/ is definitely good but I would recommend Fire/ instead.
True that Elec/ has more AoE's, however Fire/ has the almighty Fire Sword Circle and its unparalleled single-target DPS. When it comes down to it, how many AoE's do you need to take down Minions and LT's? Probably 2. Fire/ will definitely take down Bosses and "key" mobs much faster, such as Tsoo Sorcerers, Malta Sappers etc...

I take a long time to level a toon to 50 due to work and alt-itis so, if I'm investing in a toon seriously, I wouldn't want to suddenly find I am no longer the AoE beast I was pre-nerf. This is just a caveat since at the moment Fire Melee offers far more in terms of ST damage that more than off-sets the extra AoE powers that Elec/ has.
If you're not afraid of the eventual modification of Shield Charge affecting the AoE damage of a Fire/Shield then I would definitely recommend it over Elec/Shield, as the higher ST damage does make it far easier to deal with Bosses/EB/AVs. Also, it's fun to set things on fire.
Personally, I find my Elec/Elec Scrapper to be my strongest soloing Scrapper. Pretty much all Scrappers are awesome sauce, but my Elec/Elec does great against a lot of enemies in general, and rules when facing Rikti.
To be fair, I haven't done a Shield Scrapper yet, though. It may be more awesome than Elec Armor, but don't discount Elec Armor as a possible choice.

Well, if you want to build a blaster, I was actually quite fond of my DP/MM blaster. The problem was, that I found the only Epic to make it feel tough was the Ice Epic, and the Ice Epic just didn't go well with my concept. :/
That said, you want to go with a Scrapper, they're all good. Want lots of AOE with some punch? Fire Melee! ST and AOE punch, then IO out the defense set for better defenses, my suggestion...Willpower! But then, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Willpower.

Over the past 1 1/2 years, I tried my hand at trying to build the best soloing Tank only to lose patients and delete them after 20 plus levels. The thing that I missed was what my Blasters would give me with their awesome damage and AoE powers that could take out large mobs. I have written a few post on the Tanker forums regarding this and after reading what everyone else suggested, they said I might be happier building a Blapper which I guess is a combo Scrapper/Blaster right?
So, with that being said, I do a lot of soloing and maybe that's why I am so fond of my Blasters with all their AoE powers and sheer damage potential. What I am lacking of course is the defense that either a Tank or Scrapper might provide. I know that I can't get the full benefits of massive damage AoE powers like a Blaster but I want to build a Scrapper that can come as close to a Blaster as I can and enjoy those wonderful AoE attacks with a bonus to defense. Any suggestions you guys can give me would be welcome.
