Farming with a Fire Kin, questions
Well, you are correct on the Stone Mastery bit. The armor and Earth's Embrace help with survival a ton, add to that that fissure is argueably the best AoE in the controller APPs and that Seismic Smash makes farming with bosses turned on very viable and its hands down the best.
As for a build, I recomend grabbing weave as you planned, along with stone armor and Combat Jumping. Slot the 3% defense Steadfast Protection IO in toughs default slot, then just build for Smashing and Lethal defense. That should take care of your survival, at least to where you wont need Flashfires/Cinders for every spawn.
As for a farm map, you dont want freaks. They both deal energy damage and only drop tech salvage (To my knowledge). I would recomend either Unai Kemens, Axis Amerika map. Though Maria Jenkins has a good one that also works, with Battle Maiden Warriors.
I think that covers most of your questions, if I missed something just say so.
Do a search on "fire/kin" and you'll get a lot of good (and some bad) advice.
I'm in the s/l def, stone, proc'd hot feet camp....+2 and +3's melt like butter. +4's melt like cheese so I usually till on those settings.
I cloned War_Ad's build and it's been nothing but a inf printing machine.

That toon has pretty much paid for all my other toons...including the ones I pvp with.

To the OP....go with a defense build and dear god...dont take lolsmoke.
see i dont have any defense on my farmer..im all purpled out and have never needed to go the defense route.
id be willing to bet i can clear faster then defensive builds.but hey "soft cap" is the new it thing so do what you must

You wont be farming bosses w/o a defensive build. Farming anything else is a waste of my time.

Bosses aren't worth the time. I have yet to see a reason where solo fighting bosses comes with a significant enough reward to justify they extra time.
As the OP stated "I wont have the cash to pimp him out". I was able to get my Fire/Kin up, running and farming with just SOs. I went with a purely resistance base, farming S/L mobs. I had around 60% resistance to S/L and used Psi Tornado with a FF proc in it to get me extra recharge. When I got extra monies, I bought a KB IO and dropped accro. Later on, when I had about 500 mil, I decided to IO him for +recharge. I now have him as a Fire/Kin/Psi. If you want a cheap build, go for +rech. Pop an FF proc in Psi tornado (it pretty much procs on ever mob). Going the way of /Psi instead of /Earth also give you Mez protection with Indomitable Will. Which even with no purples, you can still have it pretty much perma. I personally like to be able to not get stunned, rather than having to heal when attacks are recharging.
I'm not saying its the only way, I have seen defense fire/kins farm at +4's. I applaud them and tell them nice job. I prefer not having to spend money to make money.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
You can pretty cheaply do a soft capped build too. Even the +3% defense IO isn't that expensive. Since you're doing +defense, you don't use any purple recipes. A high recharge build costs more. Capped defenses is mez protection in its own way too. One -Knockback IO is a must though no matter what. But to each their own.
@SBeaudway on Pinnacle, TaskForce Titans Supergroup.
I guess it depends on what you're farming and how you farm them. I have a +3 farm (sometimes I go +4) using a high rech and damage build. Once you get them all stunned and immobilized, they're toast and plus I rarely have to resummon dead monkeys. Defensive builds, while safe, is just too slow.
Not really, you can softcap SL a Fire/Kin and still pretty easily get 70/80% recharge into the build without too much effort. 50% at least without purples.
@Fail (Used to be @Tux) and @Tuxedo Infinitus Defiant/Freedom/Champion
Favourite Toons: Prosper [Ill/Rad] Controller :: Infinitus [Fire/Elec] Blaster :: Pocket Dynamo [Fire/Shield] Scr :: Fast [Cold/Sonic] Def ::
Inspire [Plant/Storm] Controller :: Quality - SS/Fire Brute :: Double Down [DP/Kin] Corr :: Pwnz [Fire/Cold] Corr :: Fail [Fire/Son] Corr
This is what I am running atm. Again I want to stress: this is not the best and only way to build a fire/kin, but it is how I do it, and I can farm pretty well, and do it at an enjoyably fast pace. Notice the absence of purples. Posi's and the Basilisk's are the most expensive things in the build.

..oh and btw by the time it takes you one turn on a boss..ive already moved to the next group and killed more in xp and influnce to where it wouldnt matter. however just to let you know i do have 1 boss in each group that i farm now.if it makes ya happy.
i got mine on virtue if you wanna go run some with me..be glad to smoke your slow poke kin
Nerfed boss farm xp? Which farms are you running? Besides, if you're running with a Fire/Kin, it's probably more effective to turn bosses off if you're farming regular mobs.

A. I dont farm for XP or inf...I farm for tickets in AE. And from my exp., I see no huge dropoff from what it "was" and what is currently is. But I'm not gonna argue. I can tell you there are boss farms still putting out nice ticket counts for those who know the farms. It sounds like you're not one of those people. Shame.
B. I'm not coming to any other server to farm with anyone and in addition, you're not welcome to farm with me on the server I play on so don't ask. If what you farm is good enough, then so be it. Have fun farming ltnts all day long.
Those concerned with rech...just add the +rech proc in fissure and you have perma hasten w/o having to gimp your build slotting for it.
gl!
Yes, after 2+ years, i guess it is time for me to spawn a Fire/Kin toon to farm a bit.
It obviously works, because I have seen it many times, but I still wonder how I should get started. My SG is helping me out quite a bit, and I have made it to 22 in just a few nights of play.
Now my question, when I get to 50, I wont have the cash to pimp him out. I was thiking that I should go /Earth for the Rock Armor, and then stick with a Freakshow map. But how do I survive? The stun is on a 90 second timer, which is quite long, so that wont hold them off. Do the Imps draw enough aggro, or will I still get the bulk of the aggro?
Should I conentrate on gettng recharge via LotG? or should I try for a defense build?
I plan on taking Weave and Manoevers in my build, as well as Smoke.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
