Too many badges?

This is weighing on me a good bit more as GR approaches. Obviously, no details can be disclosed about that here. (at least nothing good, lol)

I left the game before or right after issue 6. I came back a couple months ago. I used to be in the top 5 on my server (liberty) and the only reason I wasn't the leader was because I hadn't been around since day 1 to get the fifth column gladiator and simply hadn't been around long enough to earn the higher influence badges.

So, I come back, and I notice that 332 is not really a respectable number of badges, as there's over 750 now.

I've gotten my badger to 580, with about 50 more ouroboring badges to get. There's some I'll never get, and I'm ok with that.

But, I've never enjoyed the villain side. I think my highest villain, of the 2 or three that I have rolled is a level 5 corruptor. Maybe I never gave CoV a fair chance.

No sense in digressing. But for me, I think I'm not going to be a badge farmer anymore. If I get them, great. If not, who cares. Unless it's an accolade that has a power that can help my character, forget about it.

Does anyone else feel like they've flooded the game with badges, just to give level 50 players something to do?

Someone posted the 1250 badge on paragonwiki.com

You now have something to look forward to.

And yeah, some badges are really grindy still.

I'm fine with the number of badges and look forward to more. I do agree that some of the badges are too much of a grind, even with the changes that were made. There are still some epic badges even with the changes there is no way unless you go afk to get them, this should be changed, as to lower the requirement even more or change damage take as overall and not to base hit points.

I also wish the RV PVP badges would be changed, especially in regards to the AV's. I understand the PVP changes to powers to make PVP more balanced, but those changes make fighting the AV's a pain. So much so I've seen 3-4 full teams have trouble taking 1 AV down.

The AV badges are the set of badges that my Brute will hate the most with side switching, guess I may have to wait out the lag when there is another anniversary zone event and hopefully get the AV's then.

Short answer: "L0L, noes" and welcome back.

Long answer: We're coming up on issue 18 - that's a huge gap in time. There's many things I enjoy including badging. Had we not had that many badges, I might have been posting "Does anyone else feel like they neglect the badge community..."

Honestly sounds to me like you're through with the badging aspect of the game and that's ok. Depending on what attracted you to badging to begin with (explorer versus achiever, etc), perhaps you can salvage that joy and spend time on a specific type of badge. Or.. if your interest was "having it all" then pace yourself as some have done these last few years. Ultra mode (and specifically the water graphics update) is a good excuse to fly around, soak in 'teh pretty' and all of the exploration badges: all in one day, or one zone a day, or one zone a week. After that, run teams in Ouros. Don't think about the badges, enjoy the company and level experience. Along the way, you'll rack up badges before you know it.

It's what you do with your experience.

I could agree with the sentiment. But the badge are the reason I still use my first toon, an less optimized, more Rp-ish kind of toon. I'm somewhere in the realm of 575 badges. I've had to grind out a few of them. But most I've gotten just by playing normally. I'd have more if the Arena was used more and the damage badges weren't bugged by the +HP accolade powers and IO set bonuses. But badge are the reason I still use my Mastermind, my very first toon. I'd say that some badges need a fix or two but I can never have enough badges.

first, no there is NOT too many badges. there is just too many players too lazy(me included) to attempt to work on getting them all. And yes that number is nuts. my main badger has fewer than you have. It is daunting. maybe one day i will finally try and get some more. I have only a few ouro ones to get now.

Being gone that long has certainly hurt ya a bit, but the game has certainly improved since villains launched. And i agree with your thought that may not have given villains a good enough chance. If you like melee toons, brutes are funtastic! Fun Fun FUN! All the other ATs are good too. You just need to give that side a chance. As it is, not enough ppl playing. I would suggest, if you havent, get on your server's badge/teaming channel so you can find teams redside more readily.

Never had that happen to me either. Of course I don't have quite nearly as many badges as some folks around here. Only 636.

My game does lock up briefly when I open my own badges tab though.

This is really in response to all of you. Thanks for your words. Really.

I think Angry Angel may have a good idea - run teams in Ouros. Running teams is something I never have enjoyed, because of the recruiting process. Everyone wants a tell. I made a bind to make it easier.

I guess there really is no rush.

Now, some advice on the IO sets interfering with damage badges.

Try a second build if you don't PvP. Stay unslotted. The acolades may still interfere, but not much. Unless you're a regen, you shouldn't have too much trouble if you do it AFK style. I'm quite unfamiliar with Villain ATs, so I can't be of any help. But, if you find your self on Liberty, Triumph or Infinity, I can show you how to set up for stuns, damage and heals.
Thanks all. I feel better now.
