Do you consider Brutes as tankers or damage dealers?

Funny. I always long to play my Brutes after doing a mission with a tanker and finding myself saying, "If I was on a brute, I'd be halfway through the NEXT mission by now." But then, I tend to like an aggressive pace and I look at things a bit differently than most. I only need to be tough enough to survive the current engagement. Anything more than that is largely wasted. On the flip side, being overwhelmingly tough with piss poor offense is too slow for me. It's like digging a trench with a teaspoon. I'd rather have a backhoe or a spade at the very least.

I'm a solo player, so the teaming element of your survey doesn't apply for me.
Same here. I'd take a brute over a tanker any day of the week and fifteen times on Sunday, when putting a group together. You can never have too much offense and when stuff is being vaporized, the traditional tanker method slows things down too much.

My Brutes, without exception, are damage dealers.

I know this might be strange, but I look at Brutes as Brutes and Tankers as Tankers. Woah!

(Numbers added by me.)

To answer your questions though...
1) Ummm, I don't build a team like that. I invite w/e players are available. Same goes for a TF/SF. However, if I have the availability, I try to get one of each AT in the mix. So... I guess the answer to your question, would be "no."

2) Again, I don't look to fill certain roles like that... because, frankly, it's not necessary in this game (usually). So again, I guess the answer is "no." But, if I am planning to do a SF with AVs I will typically try to have a Brute and/or MM around.

Brutes are damage dealers. Masterminds are tankers.

By the way, just to clear things up a bit, since I think some of you are misunderstanding me.

I'm not talking about inviting a Brute when you're building a team. It's more like if you've got a team already and you're lacking a dps or you're lacking a tanker, who would you invite? Would you invite a Brute if you're looking for a dps? Would you invite a Brute if you're looking for a tank?

I would invite a Brute for both, because brutes can (conceivably) fill both roles.
However, if the question was: "Do you consider Brutes as Tankers or damage dealers" The answer is neither; I consider Brutes, well, Brutes.

Now having said that, when it comes to playstyles, I tend to play Brutes the same as I play my Scrappers. I flip out and kill things.

My answer is still the same. You can do anything with anything, so I'd invite whoever was the first to respond to my requests, and I'd tell them to bring whatever they want to play as. I don't look for "DPS" or "tank".

Well, I don't know that I hold them in active disdain, but I generally feel like if I'm a decent player, I should be able to group with any random powerset combination unless we're doing specialized content like a Hami raid.

So it's a point of pride for me to try to make any old weird random team work smoothly. If asked "What does the team need?" I usually say "Bring whoever you like." When pressed, I sometimes go so far as to list what we currently have, and let the player figure out what he/she wants to bring based on that, but I seldom request anything myself.

Do a villain respec trial with an all MM team with no -regen or -res.

You're kidding right? Where, exactly would 8 MMs have a problem? The vine room? No. The AV? Don't make me laugh. Any of the rest of the trial? Not hardly. Good luck finding 8 MMs that don't have any regen or dam-res debuffs. Guess you could go with 8 force fielders, but then they'd waltz through it anyway.

Be well, people of CoH.

I would put this in the ALMOST true category. I've failed an STF because we had three different people, each of whom you would normally expect to have a certain power, and none of them did. I don't remember the details but I remember backup plan after backup plan failing.

To me, it depends on the build whether or not a given Brute is better suited to tanking or dealing damage. My Dark/Stone Brute would be more of a tankish Brute, while my SS/Shield is more damage dealer.

Either way, Brutes as an AT are equally suited to both, depending on what the situation calls for.
