Beware - Email Issue

I just had several emails disappear that included several items including a purple recipe and a little over 351m in infamy that I had leftover from toons I deleted. On 7/8, those emails had 24 days before expiring. On 7/9, they were gone.

I'm still working with support to get my emails restored. I feel very lucky they were able to locate them for me. The GM in the email replies even told me to start claiming emails that were reaching the 30 day mark, even though 60 is supposed to be the correct expiration time.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd file a /bug about that, too. And maybe PM Arbiter Kim and point him to this thread.

It's a really bad idea to use email to store items. Any time that globals crash so does the email system and although the email itself might reappear the items attached do not. So I'm betting there was a crash yesterday.

It's great that somebody is doing something to restore them but storing items there is like storing items in the market if everything there was deleted each time it crashed. The best storage system is still retired or dummy characters.

I dont trust the email to hold anything for more than a few minutes. best thing is to use toons you dont play much to use as mules for recipes. safer that way

Global chat/e-mail/Auction House are all hosted on the same physical servers it seems. And that server seems to lose e-mail/global chat connections to the clients *regularly*. At one point, it was losing connections several times a night and crashing at least twice a week.

Since then, the hardware people seem to have moved it to a more robust set of hardware; now it is only crashing once every couple of weeks and losing connection only during "prime time": 8:00 pm to 12:00 am eastern time.

It is still unreliable. I would never use it for storage for more than as long as it takes me to send a few e-mails for transfer to another character.

I had something similar happen. Several days ago, I had a large number of global emails with attachments with varying expiration dates (none of which have passed), and yesterday they were all gone. Every one of them: not just the attachments, but my email box is now completely empty.

Heat - Did you have to do anything specific other than petition? Any advice on recovering the lost items?
