Dr Quatermaine TF - What My SG Mates Had to Say...
You're misreading my intent. I was talking about the Shard as a whole rather than just the Dr. Q TF. The Dr. Q TF is a travesty of boring proportions. The only times I do it (and I've done it more than most) are when I'm feeling sufficiently pumped up that I think it'll be fun to go through the crucible again.
Honestly, a Dr. Q TF could likely be turned into something of a two-part story/TF fusion: you first start working for Dr. Q doing solo missions throughout FBZ and occasionally bouncing back to PI and/or FF. Once you complete that arc (finding out about Crey, Nemesis, and others breaking into the Shard without alerting Portal Corp and destroying the first lab), you then get to run the remainder of the content as a TF (destroying those labs and dealing with the Rularuu outbreak). |
I am absolutely in favor of any and all Shard TF revamps. I almost don't care what they do, as long as it involves switching up the maps and breaking it in half, a la Positron.
I will also sign on in favor of a Citadel revamp. I just decided the other day that I am not running Cit again until it IS revamped. Its not so much over the extreme tedium of the same map 50 times in a row [at least, it FEELS like 50 times], its that the floor of the Council Cave map undulates sharply up and down. After about 45 min or so, it begins to make me feel nauseous.
There are so many people in our coalition who are hell-bent on ONLY running the original Posi "because it has more merits!" Explainations that one could run the entire revamped Posi twice in well under the time it would take to run the original once fall on totally deaf ears. I like merits as much as the next person, but actually suffer to obtain them I will not.
Bases, and everything connected to them, trump The Shard and everything else. So said States around I6 / I7.
Second, depending on your viewpoint, is probably PvP -- but that's also tied into bases. In third place, we've got the hazard zones. |
Can't say that bases have gotten that much love snce the aforementioned era, except a few degrees removed - as in, the post-level 35 Prestige adjustments; but we've seen one headdesk-quality TF revamped, and this gives us hope that perhaps more fixes are in the pipeline.
It does me, at any rate
Someone tell me other than those pain in the *** tfs, what exactly is there that's interesting to do in the shard?

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

I love the shard and the TF's but OMG yes they are totally in need of a healthy revamp.

Well, there used to be the kora fruit missions, where you could score tier 3 inspirations. But farmers got those nerfed. So, I guess to answer your question, not much.

I wish I was joking about that too. I got the same mission three times in a row with only the cave entrance being different. Then there's the hunt missions which shift from point to point but amount to the same thing. Same mission over and over. The saddest part? The shards makes for better villain missions and later in a RWZ arc. And let's not forget Darrin Wade's last words to us...
I can only restate what I said in Nethergoat's 'old content' thread: the old stuff is like a poison, conatminating the otherwise good stuff that has come since. It was argued against me that 'all content is new to a new player' but there was the devquote about how making a new zone entirely only takes a little bit longer than remaking an old one so revamping the shards would be a 'new' zone for new players. So why not fix it?

The worst thing about the Shard is: No one seems to know wtf it is, where tf it is, and wtf to do with it if they happen to find it. Joe and Jane Average I mean.
I go sometimes to sweep the Storm Palace, specifically just for the Brutes, and maybe some Elementals (Wisps + the terrain are just too annoying for a pbaoe Tank). I then advertise in PI, Request, and a couple server chans for peeps that might want to join me. Invariably I get a lot of "wth is that?", "wait, what?"...
The Devs should pimp the Shard more somehow, around lvl 35 at least.
Oh, and Ruularu are no joke to defense sets, as people have noted.
Fine, fine, fine, fine, then something lands some funk on you that sticks and BAM! "Noble Brute Smashes you for 1600 damage". I'm not complaining you understand, it spices things up.
Long story short: I like the Shard and the critters (mostly), I try to get people interested and I go there for non-stop SMASH a lot, but I wish more people did.

Not really. You very much do not need a team to deal with the Soldiers of Rularuu. I took a Blaster through them that did just fine, and I've been having occasional stints in the Shard with a Kat/SR Scrapper throughout the Issues. They're hard, they're cheap, they're annoying, but they are NOT impossible to deal with.
|
I didn't mean to imply that they are impossible. But they are a fair step harder than many enemy groups, and possibly one of the hardest in the game.
It happens that Malta are very easy for my Mind Controller (as long as I get the drop on them) but I would still call them a difficult group.
Anyway our wish has been granted. The Cathedral of Pain in I18 will, apparantly, feature the Ruularu heavily.
Blame the eyeballs again. Just for fun, I tried to take some on with my /SR Scrapper, to see if they were really that bad. Yes. Yes they are.

I'd like to see the shard TFs revamped too. And Synapse needs more help than Citadel. Citadel is quite repetitive, but Council are easy to fight and you can steamroll the TF pretty easily. Synapse is not quite as repetitive but otherwise has too many defeat alls and is just generally a long slog with lower level characters.
I understand why people think both of those should be revamped, but personally I'd like to see a Shard overhaul first. And then, if I get to choose, I'd also vote for lower level old-school contact revamp before those two TFs, and would really love to see Dark Astoria used for something too.

I have NEVER attempted any of the SS TFs. The zones are beautiful, the lore is intriguing, yet I fear it will remain a dead zone.
Which is a big shame.
I could now take the time to plug, shamelessly, my Freedom phalanx TF rewrite thread.. but that would be really cheap

Not really to do with Dr. Q's TF... But I wonder if the new Cathedral Of Pain will involve anything within the Shadow Shard.
It may very well not... but you could see how it could.
I think that would require the Shard to be a Co-Op zone though (To do it right) and... no announcement of that. I sure do hope that the Shard is opened to villains some day though.
Might this be the start of a little Dev attention for the Shard?

There's actually stuff to do with the things you listed.
