Why is EM suggjested for PvP builds so much?

Yes, boost range can make a very considerable difference, especially against melee characters.
You also get a very effective KB power, which is one of the better forms of control out there now. (You'd be surprised how many people don't get proper KB coverage on their characters). Add in Build Up and it's just icing on the cake.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
Im curious.
Iv been playing a Energy/MM Blaster, and have been having a good time with it.It also suggjests by numbers and ect that itll be great for pvp. Why does Boost Range matter so much when your targets dead before it can get far enough away in the first place? |
That and powerboost works really well with a few primaries (Sonic/Rad/Archery) For the stun duration.
no one cares about pvp
Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.
People don't just go /EM solely for Boost Range. Just BU + Aim would make TF and Bone Smasher pretty powerful. Sure, it puts a Blaster in melee range, but if you don't know how to kite, then you shouldn't be PvPing in the first place.

boost range is that good. most top tier psi/em builds revolve around being able to hit first i.e. from max range and how many glad jav procs you have.(its all about getting your attack chain off first in the quickest amount of time) you never have a chance to get into melee to use total focus because you'll never need to. I only use it in combo with power thrust for noobs who don't have enough kb.

not even total focus.

Guessing you don't go into RV much. Then again, maybe you do, but all you'll see is Tankers and Scrappers because they're a crutch for terribad players.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
To the OP...
Here is a quick explanation as to why /EM is best for pvp:
1) Power Thrust will get you plenty of kills by KBing opponents who don't have enough -KB slotted. 6-slot it with Kinetic Crash.
2) Build Up--greatly enhances self damage and to-hit.
3) Boost Range is probably the biggest advantage EM has over other secondaries. Adds survivability and allows players to get the drop on others more easily. Also makes snipe powers well worth picking up. If you kite properly, you can hit your opponent at 120 ft+ while they most likely only have a range of 80 ft...I'm sure you can see how this is an advantage
4) Power Boost has a wide variety of uses. If you take aid-self you suddenly have a major heal with PB. PB + PFF makes it almost impossible to violate. PB also boosts the to-hit bonuses in Aim + BU as well as enhancing holds/stuns, etc...
5) Total Focus slotted with Procs is a great way to finish an opponent. With Build Up and Aim it can do around 900 damage before resistance is factored in.
6) Conserve Power helps out tons when fighting "sapping" players or when the blue is about to run out.
The stun can be used but most find it not worthwhile since you have to be so close to utilize it. EP and BS aren't worth taking with DR but are still useful in PvE.
Hope this helps some.
