SS/WP regen build advice
Looking for suggestions on a purple-less SS/WP build focusing on Regen. Travel will be Flight, and the Mu PPP would be neat but isn't that important if something else will work better.

Here should be your priorities for building a WP Brute, in order of importance:
- +Typed Def, starting with SM/L and branching out from there. (min 30% for SM/L, you can try for softcap but it requires sacrifices - I went for 30% +Darkest Night)
- +HP, this will increase your regen capabilities as a side effect.
- As much recharge as your primary requires to have a decent attack chain.
Don't focus on +regen bonuses, they're too small to make a difference in the ocean of regen that is RttC & Fast Healing.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
Ah. I seem to have misinterpreted what I've read then. So suggestions for IO sets and the like?
|
Kinetic Combat in your attacks will add both +SM/L Def and 1.5%.
LoTG x3 will add 1.13%
I suggest you get http://www.cohplanner.com/ mids character planner and play around it a bit. It will help you get a feel for the sets, and let you customize the build to your liking.
Here is my defalut slotting for WP. Mainly +HP and +Regen. Attacks can be used for whatever you wish. Can slot Kinetic combat for extra S/L defense, purples for recharge. Now granted no fly for travel power but for me I would rather give up the easy travel mode for a little extra defense as well as a spot to put some more LoTG sets.

Smashing Haymaker (smashing/lethal for 4 pieces)
Reactive Armor (e/ne for 3 pieces, smash/lethal for 4)
Thunderstrike (e/ne - 2.5% at 3 pieces, +1.25% at 6)
Smashing haymaker only gives you half the bonus that kinetic combat does but the IO's tend to be a lot cheaper. Reactive armor can be slotted in both Mind over Body and Tough.
You can also increase smashing/lethal with Touch of Deaths in melee attacks and obliteration in footstomp. These sets are primarily melee def sets but you get half the value in smash/lethal. You also get 5% recharge from Obliteration, although that one is likely to be pretty expensive.
You also want to pick up boxing/tough/weave (or kick, whichever floats your boat) - Tough gives you a nice boost to smashing/lethal resists and is worth far more than you would think, plus it lets you slot a second reactive armor set. Weave adds a decent amount to all your def. Adding two toggles is going to push up your end usage a lot but WP can stack stamina on top of quick recovery, so end is not as much of an issue.

i actually posted this in another thread, that no ones helping me out but this build I did about a year ago and it worked so awesome, I never had a single problem ever. Lately it's been failing. .92 end a second btw for me is already a lot, but I make it work. It just seems like something is not working the past month and it's not performing well against a couple of EBS at a time, like it used to. Not sure what happened. Hard to respec with some of these sets I have, without losing them and like I said it worked SO well for so long. I used to go afk and let big groups of level 54s beat on me for about a minute before having to actually do anything. Anyone have any ideas? I only bring this up because you said not to do regen, but it was working so well. I mean the health bar barely moved.

Only one person so far said to not focus on regen. I tend to get my regen as high as possible with +regen and +HP. I have had several people ask how I am slotting because their WP cannot do anything close to what mine can do.
well if you could be so kind as to take a look at mine. Mine was like a killing machine that was unstoppable but these past few weeks something odd.. like the sets aren't working right suddenly.
Well just minor changes will add around 100 hp and some extra regen. However, I have never been able to just sit there while lvl 54s pounded on me and survive for long so not sure how you managed before unless somehow the mobs were AE mobs with just low damage S/L attacks or something.

They are AE but they are actually really hard. I make stuff impossibly hard for myself heh.
They are purples.I seem to do better against reds. Even with my accuracy bonus sometimes I just can't hit them enough unless i use rage (when purple ebs.)
Those are all very expensive sets, if you want to go a little cheaper try the following:

Only one person so far said to not focus on regen. I tend to get my regen as high as possible with +regen and +HP.
|
They way I choose what I'm going to add is by checking each item individually in mids, and for a WP build, tiny regen bonuses generally aren't worth it (if you get them incidentally, it's gravy on top, but I don't look to add them specifically).
They will add nowhere near the survivability that +HP or +DEF will. It's not even remotely close.
Unfortunately I can't access mids at the moment, I'll post some examples later today.
actually I had an hp based WP build and the one with the regen does a lot better for me. I've been having some weird problems lately not related to that but just a feeling like i have no enhancements in, might be the architect.
Anyway with like stomp, air superiority and knockout blow, those times enemies go down or from the ghost widow attacks and them missing me, i regen 100s of hp a second so it helps a lot in that way, if you have knockdown anyway. Although my other build which had nearly nothing for knockdown and just a lot of hp, seemed to suffer and it had higher defense bonuses. It's so confusing.

I've looked at this build in Mids, and I have to say I really don't understand the build goals at all.
And just to clarify, my point is that instead of chasing +regen bonuses (which are extremely tiny), that WP brutes should get more +HP Bonuses - because they increase your regen while also increasing the amount of damage you can absorb.
They way I choose what I'm going to add is by checking each item individually in mids, and for a WP build, tiny regen bonuses generally aren't worth it (if you get them incidentally, it's gravy on top, but I don't look to add them specifically). Slotting for typed defense bonuses is not nearly as efficient as slotting for positional defense bonuses.

This is what I use, though I will add the disclaimer that it is likely prohibitively expensive (there are a couple multi-billion IOs in it among other things)

Maybe you posted the wrong build because the Defense numbers in your build certainly are working to disprove your initial point about Positional Defenses in this case...
S/L: 17.6%
F/C: 29.2%
E/NE: 23%
Melee: 19.4% (Used *ONLY* if the attack is typed pure Smash or Lethal)
Ranged: 8.2% (Never used!)
AoE: 11.3% (Never used!)
Edit: One last thing, if you change your slotting in Haymaker and Knockout Blow over to 4 Kinetic Combats + the Mako's Bite Quad and Triple, you go to using only Typed Defenses, have *MUCH* better numbers in the attacks and all you loose is your 2 3% global damage bonuses. Here's the new +Defense numbers with just this one change...
S/L: 21.3%
F/C: 29.2%
E/NE: 23%
Melee: 18.1% (Never Used!)
Ranged: 8.2% (Never used!)
AoE: 11.3% (Never used!)
More survivability, better Acc, End, and Recharge in two of your staple attacks for the net loss of 6% global damage and .79% Damage in each power.

You're definitely better off building for typed defense with wp, because wp gives you typed defense to start of with, specifically a decent amount of en/ne and f/c.
It's relatively easy to cap en/ne and f/c, and let your regen and resists deal with s/l damage, and thats a pretty survivable build against most of the game.
The other option is to cap s/l defense and get your e/n and f/c as high as possible. This will get you an even more survivable build, but you need lots of kinetic combats, the build is expensive, and you will have to sacrifice a bit of offense.
The best IO"s to look into regardless for a wp, imo, are numinas, luck of the gamblers, and reactive armors. The kinetic combats are needed if you are going for the s/l def option.
Nor do I. I was just doing what I could to stick to the same powers as the original post by BloodFury and make minor improvements to HP and regen.

1) That slotting is terrible.
2) Focusing on positional defenses only, you ended up with more Typed defenses in every single area except melee, which you only got an extra 2%.
That should tell you of how bad an option it is to go for positional defenses on a Willpower build.
Willpower gets typed defenses to build off of, make use of it.
@Beo - you're right, I did give an older build by mistake (I've been having no small issue with getting Mid's to actually load properly post i17). The build I use does have the kinetic combats in those powers.
TBH, I'm not even sure why I said what I did, since I clearly even went for typed defenses for f/c

I usually focus on E/Ne defense on WP builds.
With Tough and Mind Over Body and regeneration I don't have to worry so much about S/L (though I do try to get at least some, so I'm not trying to resist everything), Fire and Cold attacks are some of the rarest in the game, so I don't worry about them too much.
I try to get E/Ne above 35%, and S/L to around 30% and call it good there. Between Heightened Senses and Weave my F/C defense usually ends up around 25% or so, which is usually enough.
I can't post any Mid's builds, but I like Eradication in PBAoEs for Willpower characters. It has a couple things that really help: A large chunk of E/Ne defense, and a 2.25% HP bonus (which is one of the larger ones you can get), I fill in the last couple slots with Scirocco's Acc/Rech and Dam/Rech for an extra 10% regen bonus.
Kinetic Combat is nice for S/L, and I like to fill in the last 2 slots with Smashing Haymaker (or whichever one gives an 8% regen bonus for 2 slots) in my ST attacks.
4xMocking Beratement is nice in Taunt for a little more S/L defense.

When they do come, they don't often come in enough quantity to overwhelm the regen on a well built WP.
So I generally try to focus on SM/L to get as much coverage as possible, and try to get ENE/NEG/Fire/Cold into the 25-30% range.
Eradication is a great set, for the reasons you mentioned. If you're going for as much defenses as possible.
However, I much prefer Oblit x5 or Armageddon x5 in Footstomp specifically, as you really do want the 6th slot to be the Force Feedback Proc.
I learned a lot from this thread. The survivability Analysis thread Dechs made (which I believe was linked here) Showed me just how much I would benefit from actually working on my defense numbers. I reworked my SS/WP build to include four sets of Kinetic Combat (yes I know how much it costs!) and my survivability skyrocketed. I also decided to switch from Mu Mastery for the great AOE farming to Soul mastery for the -tohit and set bonuses it could provide me. Now my brute sits with a loss of 10 global recharge, a net gain of about 100 hp, a targeted AOE tohit debuff, and an additional 20% Smashing/lethal defense.
The total price of this build will probably empty my pockets and then some, but the increased survivability will be far more than worth it when it comes to running SFs/TFs. Time to go farm those Cimerorans!
Edit: maybe Dechs' post wasn't linked here, but here it is: (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=226653)
Looking for suggestions on a purple-less SS/WP build focusing on Regen. Travel will be Flight, and the Mu PPP would be neat but isn't that important if something else will work better.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
